If you like traffic lights, you've come to the right place!
I have over 35 signals in my personal collection and film all sorts of interesting infrastructure in the wild!
I’m also a traffic signal technician so you’ll get to see lots of behind the scenes work while I’m on the job.

Horizontal Bouncing Ball Beacon
A quick video of a horizontal bouncing ball beacon that I brought up to Jay for OSM 2024. The original cube flasher was bad but luckily he had a spare!

Scaled Down Railway

Another cool scaled down railway that the group visited during the 2024 OSM meet. This was a lot of fun and incredibly impressive to see first hand.
3M Green Section Signals

I had a full video of this intersection plus a couple others around here but I unfortunately lost those videos. This was still a cool find though!
Strange Diamond Interchange near Montreal
zhlédnutí 370Před 14 dny
This was a very interesting set of traffic signals just off of A20 outside of Montreal. 3 intersections in a row, likely all on the same controller or using some kind of peer-to-peer or coordination. The leading and lagging left turns are very inconsistent here; one of the approaches actually using a flashing green ball and a solid arrow. The other approach using just a flashing green ball even...
Series of Intersections in Westmount
zhlédnutí 852Před 28 dny
These intersections in Westmount were very interesting! They are all fixed time but seem to be well coordinated with each other. I walk around 4 separate intersections in this video and talk about each one and what I would improve. Thanks for watching!
Municipal Symbolite's near Montreal
zhlédnutí 591Před měsícem
An intersection featuring some Municipal Symbolite's with their original configurations, even after being converted to LED. There is technically a pedestrian conflict here since the green ball on the sidewalk side shows green but the traffic side shows a left and right arrow. The same message could be achieved with a green ball since there are no through movements or overlaps here. An interesti...

I drove by here the other day. Completely forgot about these! Would be very cool to see them in action! Unfortunately, I doubt a train will ever roll down these tracks again.
All Yellow is like every signal technicians worst nightmare, right? 😄
@@WestCoastTrafficSignals I would think all greens would be worse! But I’m glad the monitor caught it!
That’s the same tone that the ones I filmed in Lynnwood used!
1. How long is the countdown in total? 2. Why does the melody not have a pause?
@@Ezia1 I have no idea and that’s the standard for Melody use to my knowledge.
👿
I like this sound
What streets are this signal located on? I'm trying to find it on google maps but I'm so far unsuccessful
Fleet St and Strachan Ave in Toronto, Ontario.
I think it's pretty cool that they do that!
Hmm nice rare to hear when I was in SF I always see the polar buttons that are only for the audible signal to have a sign reading “button for assessable signal only”
They have "button for audible signal only" signs in Oshawa?
@@UsernameIncoming I suppose they do! Main roads are usually rest in walk!
@@TheTrafficTech I know that many places (such as Guelph and Peel Region) still don't, even when the signals rest in walk. I only knew that Waterloo Region, Hamilton and Toronto used them. Is this a newer signal?
@@UsernameIncoming it’s either newer or it’s been updated more recently. The neighbourhood in here is definitely new.
There used to be bus signals in that area, but now it's just 12-8-12s and 12-8-8-12s with a leading through arrow [isn't that what it's called?]
On the hanger 12-8-8, the red light looks different compared to the other aspects, i you know what I mean
There's others too
A bus signal can be found near the intersection too!
I was about to comment a video idea for ottawa but then i realized how old this video was
Small update, I actually found the original project plans dated 1987-03-06 on the MaineDOT Public Map Viewer while scouring around archived project plans - it's under PIN 002644.00, look at page 7 at this document. This would suggest that these signals were installed in the late 1980s - optically programmed signals were called for in this planset for this approach. EDIT: you'll need to search up " *mainedot meplans archive* " on Google, then click on " *Vault Plans* ", then type *002644.00* under the PIN field - CZcams blocked my original comment direct linking the planset.
What is that
Doggo!
I live near Sydney Australia and got confused for a second haha😆
@@nswtrains3153 lol different Sydney 😂
@@TheTrafficTech Yes🤣
I’m curious how they program the advance right-turn. Would it be something like using phase 1 (assuming the thru & ped movement is phase 2)? Or is it just an overlap?
I think it’s an actual overlap because the opposing thru is green. I don’t like that because they have a permissive left while my side has a protected right turn with a flashing green arrow.
@@TheTrafficTech Looks like the left-turn is prohibited everyday from 7am-7pm. The advance right probably only activates during those hours, so it should be fine.
@@WestCoastTrafficSignals oh! I didn’t notice that! I hope that’s correct!
It looks like there are loops for the left-turn, so it might be actuated!
You have a gimbal for your phone?!
@@WestCoastTrafficSignals I do! I need to use it more!
Pretty cool! I was just talking about railway signal lights with you haha
@@SkyOfTheUniverse that made me think of posting this!
So cool
Super cool! Love this
Thats so cool! I love miniature rideable railways like this! They are so- OH MY GOD WE ARE HORIZONTAL
Hey. The railroad is real
@@RubiksStars79327 it’s not a railroad signal but sure!
It’s not?
@@RubiksStars79327 it’s a bouncing ball warning beacon. It was for a highway where the divided part began!
@@TheTrafficTech idk if it’s a school zone speed limit or others
I like your traffic lights Kyle
I appreciate that!
You’re not posting any more basement intersection videos but why?
I seen one at Carter’s
There's another one at Notre Dame E and Frontenac E (Rte 112) in Thetford mines, and a 12-12-12 one at the EB A10 offramp at Jean-Lapierre (Rte 139) near Granby.
There's also some weird signals that combine the bicycle and pedestrian aspects into a single head. One is at the SB A20 offramp at Rte 125 in Terrebonne, there's another one at Maricourt and Saint-Hubert in Longueuil.
@@UsernameIncoming I’ll have to find it next time I’m in town!
I believe this would be a type 7 traffic signal per the OTM. Nice find. Any other you know of?
WTF! 😂
1:06 What are those??
I honestly have no idea!
I like your traffic lights
@@Axu_Fire thank you!
The thru arrow should be solid
Absolutely! All 3 displays are likely tied to one green output. Not sure why they just didn’t have a green ball and left arrow.
@@TheTrafficTech Then it wouldn't be clear that the right turn is protected. It's good to avoid using green balls for protected turns to avoid 'crying wolf' about checking for pedestrians
That must be an Ontario thing. I know it’s a BC thing as well; to have arrows in protected directions. In this case, since it’s one output, they could make the left arrow flash or just have them all be solid since that’s a simple controller fix. I know a lot of Oshawa is using Cobalt so this is a simple menu option.
hahahaha That's very much not allowed!
I seen that before.
I wish I recorded my initial reaction to this. This was the funniest thing ever and a HUGE surprise.
Hahahaha wow
I’ve never never seen a triple green light before.
It's used when there are protected left and right turns in the same phase
There's some in Quebec
That cycle length is crazy! 3.5 minutes. Definitely the longest I’ve ever seen!
NO! The right arrow flashes to?
1:50 Was thinking, maybe they got rid of the diagonal green arrows when they installed the lane control signals? Just to make sure drivers didn’t get confused.
@@WestCoastTrafficSignals yeah that would make the most sense!
Neat!
Thats a amazing setup
Don’t tell me you’re stuck in the traffic light
There’s another one flashing too
Bro he almost caught you.
Why? That’s a good one with that but it need to flash fast.
