Super Mario 64 DS: Tunneling

Tunneling is a glitch discovered in late March 2021 by Really_Tall and used to make a 0-star run of the game. It takes advantage of gaps in the collision triangles and the raycast checks not including the ends. The music desynced with the blocks at the end. That's a glitch with VirtualBox DeSmuME's video recording, not with the game. The music perfectly syncs with the blocks in game.

If you collect a cap with Yoshi and then keep collecting more caps, it gives you 1 ups. Hayashi uses Mario, so that might be why she isn't getting a 1up. But I used hacks to find that out, so maybe it won't apply to the snowman method.

There are only 6 characters in this hack. (Mario, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi, Peach, and Toade) Programming a 7th one I imagine can be pretty hard since you have to account for (probably) animations, voice clips, how they interact with objects in the game, and the character's signature Power Flower ability, which, if it was an entirely original one, a LOT of ASM hacking would have to be done for that as well. Long story short, a lot of work goes into adding a character that does not replace anyone in Super Mario 64 DS.

Since tall tall mountain is one of the later courses-the 12th of 15 ones to be specific so it may be because the developers realised to program against any exploit employing shy guys(but exploits are anyways still possible)

I’m currently trying this RTA and I managed to get Yoshi up the steps but for some reason he just wouldn’t grab the second pole edit: nvm just did the star RTA, the trick is to just hold towards the pole the whole time, although it seems a bit luck based, sometimes Yoshi grabs the second pole and sometimes he doesn't
Well I was today years old when I learned the snowmen could be killed that way
So the collision checks are XOR for the start and end? And if Nintendo had not done that, this wouldn't be possible? Insane!

I feel like Super Mario 256 is to be a celebration of all things Mario, that is easily accessible and is an expansion pack of sorts for Super Mario 64 DS.
Mario spun Bowser so hard his skin melted off and he got drilled into the ground.

I had so much fun playing the demo a couple years back now. So many fun and unique ideas and challenges that I enjoyed greatly. I'd say I can't wait for a full release, but I'd rather wait for as much time that is needed to make the best result possible. Keep up the good work!

3:16 My guess is because Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Yoshi have code for collision with the ground and are loaded invisibly while the game waits for Peach and Lakitu’s cutscene to end, but the four heroes’ code works during cutscenes for some reason, and the main player (Yoshi) hasn’t had their health set yet (because the game didn’t even start).
It's just stupidly easy.
My favorite game of all time was and still is 64 DS So to see such a hack expand and improve upon this of all versions is a dream come true! Keep it up man! I will absolutely love to see consistent updates no matter how small they are! I have the demo and it is so good to play around in!

1. I'm Hayashi 2. It'll be very hard to extract the code for custom objects and put it in the original SM64DS, so no.
