  • Water in this game is a broken mess beyond the surface. The way water was coded seems to heavily use the assumption that water is a flat surrounded plane, which hacks for Wet-Dry World's and Tall Tall Mountain's special shenanigans.

    Cool, an explanation that actually shows how to consistently get the TTM swim glitch.
    There's a really bizarre interaction between out-of-bounds swimming and wind that I found while messing with it.

    At 4:41 it seems as if the game thinks your in the flower patch? Theres a noise when you jump out of the "water" that normally plays when you run through a flower patch

      This is because of the floor Y raycast detecting the flower patch.

    I'm curious as to the reason why glitches like the one at 1:54 are significantly more difficult (though still possible) on the European version than on US 1.0. Another thing that struck my mind as to how it works is the glitch that allows you to walk on the water surface as Mario after taking damage while wearing a Luigi cap.

      Walking on water as Luigi happens because as you lose the cap, you go back and forth between being recognized as Luigi or the other character every few frames as you flash, so you can initiate walking on water during the time you’re Luigi, but there’s nothing to tell the game to fall under once you aren’t Luigi anymore. Idk about why the other thing is harder on 1.1 though

    What did you mean by “the underwater flag clears” at 6:53? I managed to perform this glitch and nothing happened when I stayed still for too long. Yoshi was able to just stand there until his idle sleeping animation started with no issues. Does he usually start swimming or something?

      The underwater flag is set to 0. So bumping into stuff doesn't make the player swim.

      @@hayashi-stl16 I think you meant that bumping into stuff DOES make the player swim because it doesn't reset the flag and you won't be on the shell anymore, whereas walking or standing still for too long resets the flag.
