Not sure why I never gave this much thought before. But is open core legacy patcher safe. Example - can they look through what stocks you buy and sell or see your passwords. Especially if you have a hacked video card. Can they see your stuff as your doing work live?

Great video Jessie. How the hell do you know this stuff!! Your knowledge is astounding. A few questions please? 1. Do I HAVE to use an SSD? Can I use a regular blank Hard drive? 2. The Hard Drive I would LIKE to use has so many apps, 100s of plugins and customizations that I’ve perfected over many years for work. If I use a PC Card (I have the same Sapphire btw), does it mean that the only way I can move to Big Sur would be to forfeit my customizations? 3. Is there anyway, to install Big Sur on an existing HD and keep my customizations? (even if I have to use a USB Drive)?

Thank you for your reply yesterday Jessie. This was such a great video but I was met with a really formidable impasse. I'm using a Mid 2012 MacPro 5,1. I tried both, the USB Drive & the other method but upon restarting in order to get the Apple Boot Selector screen, I would get nothing but a black screen after restarting and pressing alt/option. I googled other solutions & alternatives but nothing worked. I tried clearing PRam but that didn't work either. Is there any solution or workaround for this? This is now the 5th day of working on this with no progress. Thank you so much!

I am highly impressed with this tutorial .. I have successfully updated my Mac Pro 2012 to Sonoma 14.5 . while I try updating to the new versions 14.6 .. wifi missing to connect. I had to return back to 14.5 versions thanks for the tutorial.

I updated to 14.6.1 without the patch, and now it's stuck on the login page. Safe mode works but with no internet. Please help?

I watched your videos and learned so much about OCLP and was able to install Ventura and Sonoma on MBP 2009-2015. One thing that I could not get working is doing time machine backups and then restore from OCLP Macs. Example is on a MBP 2010 running Ventura the Time Machine backup was only 1.5GB when it said complete which should have been like 30GB at least. And when I tried to use the Recovery mode in disk utility it does not see any Time Machine backups made from OCLP macs. Would be great if you can make a video on how to do this. Probably so many others have similar issues.

Jesse, I did a Sonoma install to my iMac 14.2. Everything did fine but when I try to set the computer to start without my thunderbolt drive connected it doesn’t work. I did the startup with the option key held as required but it keeps going back to my Lacie drive. How can I get my start up files back on my internal hard drive?

I decided to download and install OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.6.0 (Nightly) but was hesitant to try and install macOS Sequoia. Then, when I clicked Post-Install Root Patch, there were 3 Root Patches available for my Sonoma 14.6.1 OS. -Intel Broadwell Graphics -Wifi Network Patch (Forgot the actual name) -FaceTime PCIE (Also forgot the actual name) I installed these Root Patches on my MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 and BOOM! Sudden bost in performance. Dragging windows around the desktop and some animations suddenly become smooth and snappy! I'm using a MacbookPro 2015 i5 dual core model. Installing the 1.6.0 root patches bumped up the performance of this device significantly. It's a win for me even though I didn't end up installing the Beta OS.

I upgraded my 5,1 from Mojave to Monterey and did it using Open core but not the Legacy Patcher. Will this method still help me? 2. When I rename the USB Drive, do I call it “Install MacOS Monterey” instead of “install MacOS Big Sur”? Do I have the syntax right? 3. Will I gain anything by starting again from Mojave (I can reimage my system drive from Time Machine) and upgrading to Monterey using Legacy Open Core patcher method? Or am I just fine following your instructions here and making my current situation work? THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I'm getting stuck at the mounting point. My drive is called Macintosh HD and I do the bless part but I still get nothing. I'm on a Macbook Pro 2011 17 inch. It booted once but now for some reason it's won't boot. I'm not sure I even ran the root patches in the first place. I'm using the 1.5.0 OpenCore Patcher.

Hello sir, I have a late MacBook pro 2011, it's speced out i7 16gb ram, 2TB hard drive. I want to update to macos Ventura, but I don't have an external drive to backup my data, am still on the official macos sierra 10.12.6. Can I use this tutorial to update seamless to the open core/hackintosh version without loosing any data or having to backup, like updating it seamlessly to a new version? I need a fairly powerful machine. I do not want to spend $5k or more on a new computer. I was considering a Mac Studio but that might not even be enough for me and all the inputs I need. A Mac Pro desktop might cost me $10k. I need to decide whether to get a new computer or try OCLP soon. I am ok with technical stuff but not great. What do you guys recommend???

Have just installed OCLP Monterey on mac 5.1 , everything ing is ok but have an issue where i cannot install Avid HD Drivers , install button is " Greyed out " is there any post install patches to solve this ?

Wait until 15.2 until updating ANYTHING, dont matter if its intel or arm

Oclp offers first sequioa nightly for broadwell. MBA 7,2 post patches work now: graphic, Airplay, wlan, iwatch unlock, and others work like in Sonoma. I am happy.

Thanks for such a detailed comparison, great job. I wanted to clarify one point: I have a Mac Pro 2012, I installed an RX6800 video card with firmware in it. Everything works great with Monterey. Will this video card work on Sonoma OS (after installation with Open Core)?

Hello Jessie: very detailed and interesting presentation, haven't seen your new you tube videos for several months. I just want to ask if your macbook pro 2016 tested is 15 inch touch bar model ? I have one too but I haven't try updating to Sequoia yet and I shouldn't yet as I don't know about the python and other steps needed completely yet and Sequoia is only in beta stage and what is the benefit of upgrading to Sequoia from latest 14.6.1 apart from being the newest Mac Os ? Also there is risk of bricking or something correct ?

wow. I wanted to run macOS 15 on a pc I built using an intel i9 14900k. looks like I can not. another reason to spend $1500 to $2000 for a used 2019 Mac Pro. not looking forward to $2500 plus spent on a M4 Mac Studio. it breaks I am at Apples mercy. 2019 Mac Pro is user fixable. I see Mac Usage declining once Mac OS 16 comes out next year and will run on Apple silicon only. Most corporations will ditch the high cost and no repair of the Apple Silicon Macs in favor of AI PC's. Windows is going to the cloud in Windows 365. run on THIN clients. the days of powerful PC's are coming to an end. ARM chips the new norm.

I got stuck just like he said: the (HighsSierra 2011) progress bar didn’t do a thing the message continued to say “Restoring” for hours.

I have successfully clean flashed 14.6.1 on my MacBook pro mid 2015. Only 1 major annoying issue. It gets stuck at the lock screen if i put my MacBook to sleep. Any solutions? Rest all seems ok.

Hi, both upgrade and via usb. Both procedure resuled to have my macbook 6,2 stuck on apple logo with 30% on the progress bar but with cursor. Have to reinstall again to catalina as it is the only version working on my macbook. 😢
