    While in college in indy i interviewed with a couple champ car teams. It did not take long to understand it wasnt a job it was a life. Most of the mechanics were either young and single or middle aged and 3 times divorced.

    Just wanna say Thanks to Larry Dixon Jr for The Snake year's 💪 Being a life long Snake Fan I was very nervous when Snake tapped Larry to pilot his AA/TF car, but LD quickly turned my anxiety into excitement in 95 & the war of the beer wagon's went on to become an EPIC battle for the age's! 😁👍

    Great video, do you ever purge those header tubes with argon or nitrogen while welding? The purge will help keep the weld joint cooler and also reduce sugaring and perhaps prevent cracking besides the stress point that you obviously have under control.

    I love this technology. The idea you can produce parts in an environment where the temperature is controlled as closely as possible is quite incredible. Traditional machining can do incredible things but it does produce some heat, no matter how much oil is pumped onto the work surface. There is also a risk of the bit being deflected, just ever so slightly. If however the piece never contacts the bit then it can't deflect. Fascinating stuff.

    That’s not a different radius. All of those bends have the same radius. I’m guessing 6” but could be off. They have a different degree of bend.

    As someone that was a crew member back in the late 80's to mid 90's on Top Alcohol teams, and later Top Fuel teams I think the hardest thing for people to know is...can you stand on your feet for 10 or more hours straight. Back then I was a thin young man that could do that. being in my late 50's now I would not want to do that anymore.

    Hmm. You index the tubes. Do you put a bit of twist into them somehow? Also, if you happen to see this comment on this olde video, what filler rod do you use. When I was building sprint cars in Indy, I had friends telling me about how top fuel builders use weird 40 ksa filler to allow flex and all kinds of weird things. They may have been making things up though. That was over a decade ago. Thanks.

    What a program!!! Hats off to all of you for what you do, and a very professional vidio. I'm a former bracket racer of 13 years in the same street/sportsman car. Racing at 2 area tracks, very often a semifinalist going to the final round was not uncommon. Won the championship in 2012, and Wallys from both tracks. The sound of the kids screaming right after I compleated the burnout was priceless! God Bless everyone who was fortunate enough to have experienced experienced this thrill.

    Back when i was earning good money i totally would of done this now it would only be a pipe dream cause getting a head injury and not working for nearly 10 years but understand the cost its not cheap running one of those things.

    Well ! I always look to you for answers. This way looks the best. This would be the way I would have tried. Maybe use a long stemmed carbide cutter inside the tube to reduce the inside tube pressure on the outside tube ? Anyway you got it !

    Sorry to nitpick, but air or a whirlpool inducing air is not cavitation. Cavitation is when a liquid changes to a vapor state due to a change in pressure, as when a pump is trying to suck in a liquid but there is a restriction, which creates collapsing voids.

    I thought about building a top fuel blender 20 years ago out of one of my windowed KB motors to sell margaritas at drag races but my lawyer and not having a liquor licence in every town they race in squelched that idea, PLUS fuel, oil, plugs, ice, booze, mix, towing, motels, bruton smith vender booth costs, etc a 20oz margarita would cost a customer $100 a pop so drag racing attendance falling off the last 10 years i decided to drop that idea.

    I know this is strictly top fuel stuff… but did the guys as star racer ever say anything like “our belts like more tension”? Only reason I’m asking is, I just put one on my 565 and set it up like my old rubber/nylon belt was slack wise. Now when I whack the throttle, you can see the “slack” side of the belt rise up off the blower pulley. Basically trying to jump teeth… Wondering if I need to run it a little tighter, or will it hurt anything. I definitely don’t want to stress the crank or blower snout…

      Definitely run it a little tighter. Jumping a tooth is the kiss of death! Doubles the working tinsel strength and will break the belt.

    I’ve got my semi license, I can tig weld everything, I can fabricate, I’ve been involved in racing my whole life. I’ve been running with a few RvW teams. I grew up around funny cars. My only downfall to what y’all need is I love 5 minutes from RT 66 Raceway and dave Harris is my uncle😂
