I could watch your stuff all day. It's refreshing watching someone put out videos without faking their personality and just calling it like they see it. Thanks for giving us normal folk a glimpse into the fuel world.
Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes to identify the problems. You tuned up the car, and more importantly, you tuned up the team. Glad to see Kevin ripping that hot-rod.
Mr. Wendland knows every aspect of a fuel car. He can build and or service every component on these cars from the very front to the very back. He is fun to watch and very informative. These are the best fuel videos I've ever watched. I've learned a ton. Thanks Rob Wendland !!
I agree with him👇, I was bummed to see the vid end so soon. Fuel Altered is a very exciting class. I've enjoyed watching them all my life. Thanks for sharing!
After 40 years on the job, Rob retires. The machine Rob maintained made $100K/day for the company. One day, the machine stopped working. None of the staff could figure out the problem, so after a week of this, they called Rob and asked if he could take a look and they'd be happy to pay him. Rob stops in the next day to look the machine over. After a few hours, Rob pulls out a piece of chalk and places an X on a part. He says, "Replace this part and it'll be up and running." Sure enough, they replaced it and the machine worked. The owner was giddy and told Rob to send him the invoice. Rob wrote up the invoice for $10,001.00. The owner was shocked and asked for an explanation. Rob said, "$1 for the chalk. $10,000 to know where to put the X."
Damn good video . It showed a lot of things they do that you can't see . He just was doing the basics and fixed the problems . Experience just can't put a value on it
What a fantastic feeling to fight and fight and fight with something and then watch things come back around. Awesome job Rob, got em lined out and headed the right direction.
Absolutely outstanding behind the scenes tutorial with great voice over explanations of what goes into sorting out the details that makes a difference.
I remember back in the 90's up here in the northeast there was a group of fuel altereds called the "hotrods from hell." Man I used to love going to watch them. Those things are a handful. Really cool you were able to help them out. Sometimes when you get stuck on something, it's hard to see it from a different angle.
I hadn’t realized the track changed affiliation and name and went Nhra when they changed it to Kentucky dragway from mountain park. I always had difficulty getting smooth runs there compared to Beech Bend. Really a friendly bunch though.
Great video. Tks Rob. You are the man. Great u help other teams not only did they learned some stuff. Fixed their car. But EVERYONE they tell that story too will also know !!! And it came from you. Great job 👏
😆 Yep. I can recall using a belt sander, in a pinch, to make something work. I can't recall every instance I've done it, but "machining" shims down while installing rear-end carriers comes to mind a time or two. Ya gotta do, what you gotta do sometimes to get 'er done.
I'm not sure how I ended up watching fab and tuning channels, but you clearly are a master of all aspects of going fast. Incredible to learn the details that come together for a successful pass.
Awesome video I live in mt sterling about 15 miles from that track and have seen that car run and it rips pretty cool to see someone like yourself around my local track
My grandpa, Dale Roeckner, used to race cars like these back in the 60’s. He raced in top gas and set a few records. One of his cooler cars had twin Chrysler hemi’s that were supercharged.
WOW..!! 😲 Kevin has got a really fast car. I haven't seen him n a long time. I've known him all my life, he's a good guy & his brother Brian is too. His mother lives n the same community I grew up n, but I had no idea he drove a car like that beast!! It's really cool & I certainly enjoy your channel. Great content & you're an expert sir... 👍
@@robwendland Being strapped into a car like that can make you claustrophobic when taking short breaths because of CO2 buildup, especially when it's hot out. I have experienced that in a Sprint cars years ago while sitting in the pits. Made me think they should use one of those oxygen enrichment machines to pump oxygen into the helmet. Have it shut off when the car launches is so nobody can say it was a dumb idea because of a fire hazard.
This once again shows the keen eyes for detail & knowledge up in the brainbox of yours what a bloody champ you are thanks for imparting wisdom Obiwan Wiseman.
Great Videos Rob!!! I can tell ya from a fellow racer not at Top Fuel level but I can appreciate ALL of your insights and your humor lol!! Thank you for doing what you do and I look forward to many more!!
Rob it's so cool how you do maintenance on things and fix them vs tossing them in the trash i.e. spending mega bucks when it's not always necessary! I've got an old distributor cap which I will now cut in half to see where my rotor is hitting on the carbon on my new one. Thanks Rob! That's a beautiful track btw
Those cars dont have a owners manual? lol. Trouble shooting is a tough thing. I am always curious on teams how they "fix" an issue. Some throw parts, some just "go back to formula" to find the issue.
I remember that Altered at your old shop in Lawrence when I was working for you in High School. I forgot who owned that, wasn't it the guy that owned Lawrence Athletic Club? Great video, love watching these race day diagnostic tuning videos.
Fuel Altereds are supposed to be short wheel based evil handling monsters! Good video, and great information other wise pointing out it is the small things that sometimes goof you up
Rob your videos are amazing. I would love to be able to come to the us and learn off you. If you ever need a spare hand please hit me up. I’m in Australia but I’ll come right over. Your drag racing brain is something to aspire too. Cheer mate. Love your channel
Freaking crazy I heard the way it was idling it wasn’t going to go down the strip right and be off on a cylinder and you then said it dropped one. The tone to my untuned ears heard it just enough. And to see you do this basically on the fly is so cool 😎
Damn that is some seriously cool shit to watch. Good on them for having you out there and dealing with you coming in. Good on you for goin' out there and sayin how it is, but especially recording it to show us!
Excellent video. Wish it was longer. Thank you for taking us along. I can't wait for our local track to open back up next year. 2 years without drag racing has the withdrawls going somethin terrible.
So Rob...is the fuel trimmed back at all during backup or staging or full on the whole time.... Dave Benjamin told me years ago beware a lean tune in the water box...
The only thing wrong with this video is its not two hours long. Thanks again Rob
Boy do I agree
Agreed
I could watch your stuff all day. It's refreshing watching someone put out videos without faking their personality and just calling it like they see it. Thanks for giving us normal folk a glimpse into the fuel world.
Just too cool that you spend time with small teams and working on solutions. Huge props to you Mr. Wendland.
Love doing it! Great bunch of people!!
I love how you can spot issues just by looking. Fuel motors are a totally different beast.
No replacement for experience, Rob! Sometimes you don't see the trees for the forest. They just needed another set of eyes. Thanks for sharing!
I had a big grin on my face when I saw you flattening the face on that 4X36 grinder! Smart is what you get when the options are slim. 👍 😃
Crafty
Did you mic the clutch after sanding so it was close all around it?
The HF belt sander is a whole lot better than hangin' someone off the back of the pickup truck draggin the plate on the road.
Haha, the way the rest of us do it!

The KISS principle....again!

Great triage documentary! In all things, if you can’t explain it easily, you don’t know it well enough… you certainly know things well enough.
THOSE FOLKS were blessed to have one of the best gurus...
Great video.....thank you..👍
I love the smell of nitro in the morning
Love the behind the scenes troubleshooting. I learned a bunch and loved every second of it. Thank you Rob.
Rob if you will, what is your advice on lines and fittings for methanol? What filter sizes? Perhaps a video on it? Thanks, great videos all!
THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO ROB, HELL YEAH!! wow, so good!!
Great to see their program improve with some of your vast experience to help!

Man i love watching Altereds run, insanity on 4 wheels lol
Crazy how adjusting him in the seat fixed so much.
Yes they are indeed. Thank you for your informative vids
This once again shows the keen eyes for detail & knowledge up in the brainbox of yours what a bloody champ you are thanks for imparting wisdom Obiwan Wiseman.
It was great seeing a old fuel altered. I used to see them all the time in the 60s. Good job.
That was fun to watch.
So cool that you make these films with your down to earth style explaining. You should have a tv show!
Greetings from Sweden
You have an amazing job! Love what you have been teaching us!! Please keep it up.
Bad ass stuff! Thank you!! You should have your own show on discovery for the diehard gear-head.
The most badass beast on the drag strip. Originally 100” wheelbase with a 25% engine set back. Strap in and hang on.
Right on brother!
I just started watching your videos you are a very smart man i wish i knew what you forgot !
Great Videos Rob!!! I can tell ya from a fellow racer not at Top Fuel level but I can appreciate ALL of your insights and your humor lol!! Thank you for doing what you do and I look forward to many more!!
Thanks for the video - too bad you didn't stick around - could watch this stuff for hours ---

Thanks for watching brother appreciate it!
They’ve got a good crew, it’s just that sometimes you need fresh, experienced eyes to take a dispassionate look at things.
Thank you again Rob!! Any chance you could share some racepak data on asto how you interpret the data to how you change the tune-up?
Good job Rob.
What a great video, very interesting, learned a lot!
great stuff here...

You always bring me over there give me all of those nice little blond headed Sweden girls what kind of deal!!!
@@robwendland I'm sure we could sort something out🤣🇸🇪
Rob, do a video on A/Fuel fuel and clutch systems
Great video Rob
Thanks for sharing. You have probably forget more than most people know about nitro...
Reminds me of the time my jacket button was hitting my motorcycle helmet.... Iol
That’s really funny! 🤣🤣🤣
You're the man!!! We need you looking at our fuel altered.
So Rob...is the fuel trimmed back at all during backup or staging or full on the whole time.... Dave Benjamin told me years ago beware a lean tune in the water box...
Another very interesting show from your great perspective, thanks!
You are The Professor!
It would be interesting to see you out in Bonneville. While the cars are different there are a lot of similarities to my layman eyes.
I wish I could download your drag racing knowledge like Neo in the Matrix.
😂😂😊
Excellent episode
Good way of butchering something is a belt sander. Only used in fettling shops here.
What are those rubber grommets on the spark plugs called and where can I get them?
Always a pleasure watching sir!
