only just seen this. You mention firmware updates, do you know if a later update (since you recorded this in 2021), does now include a stereo reverb?
Not sure, no longer own the unit
Comb filter is just 1 short delay line.
Thank you for this. Three years after you posted it, I watched this with my new-to-me used Digitakt I with a Volca keys plugged into it. I made a track that sounded to me like Tired Sounds of Stars of the Lid and this made me very happy. thank you.
Great video. Has it midi thru?
Yes it has midi through on a dedicated jack.
Nicely done Yuki. Quite sad about your Sequential experience. I wonder if this QA issue is reflective of the new management. Totally agree with the comment on Fatar AT. The Ensoniq AT system was very usable, even though those keys were actually made by Fatar too, but they didn't use the Fatar system. The new Arturia AT system looks very similar to the Ensoniq system. I was rather surprised you didn't run the Uliheim through The Big Sky. When Uli brought out the P800 there were a number of issues that got attended rather quickly, so there is hope that the things you outlined might see some attention as well.
I will be running the big sky Mx again soon, I want to use a reverb that was way more lofi for the synth wave character.
if i was just starting with synths i would get this. i am sort of past all the old stuff and the re-issues. like skip the pro800 and get the take5 and teo5 instead of this or other obers. my most recent synth is a gaia2 which does new things. i also dont need more big keyboards. maybe some day i'll find an excuse to get this haha
They have shown off a desktop version of this quietly in a video not to long ago, it was sitting on a desk while they demoed the vst they put out. So maybe a desktop version will be out soon I hope. I will be dumping the ubxa for a desktop when that happens to save space.
17:12 dope sounds ❤
Gorgeous sounds man :) Love the UB-Xa!
That's ridiculous about the Sony white noise copyright. Absolute nonsense.
Not a UBXA but I did recently pick up a Prologue 16 for a killer price and have had a lot of fun with designing splits and layered patches. Very different mindset from my XD.
Thank you for being one of the few objective synth people! 🖖🏻
Do you know whether the outputs can use balanced TRS 1/4 in cables ?
Yes they are balanced outputs
I think splits are the strength of this synth it’s a shame there’s not enough space for combo patches
Didn‘t it have blue stripes like the Oberheims originally?
I think your ears were so pleasently happy that your eyes stopped working... there's blue stripes on the entire front of the synth
@@ConzDimensionMy eyes are working well, and my iPad has an excellent display. The stripes are very pale, nearly gray - completely different from my two Oberheims.
@@RayyMusik They are copying the synth but they don't need to make every detail identical. I like the muted stripes on the Behringer. It feels similar enough.
It could be the color balance of the video. There are a lot of reasons why the color might not becoming through. But also Uli is great at hosing colors. Their Arps come with Pooh Brown rather than Arp Orange.
@@chokocat9064 Yep, my BARP 2600 has those brown labels. But allegedly this was a production failure and newer units have the correct orange.
I've tested my Grey Meanie and I know it keeps tune through a startup shutdown cycle. Perhaps that was one of the better components.
17:56 couldn't agree more
What are your thoughts on the newly announced TEO-5? I keep saying that when it drops im gonna sell the hydra to pick one up but the sonic range of the hydra is just so insane. Yeah you cant upload custom wave tables and you have to work to get good bass out of it but name another hardware (hell even software synth) with such a fantastic and well thought out interface. Not to mention the 5 Envelopes, 5 on board LFOs (+ the extra ones) which can emulate analog wave shapes including S&H and can be turned into an 8 step stepsequencer with note locking, voice modulation and like you said - the damn fine analog modeled filters My only real gripe with the hydra is the lacking FX section but thats what pedalboards and DAW post processing is for, sequential synths are only limited to 2 digital FX anyway. I do lust for a real SEM filter though 🥺
The teo5 will have very little overlap with the hydra. I will be getting a teo but keeping the hydra.
Your right, the reverb is not the best. I have a Bigsky - together they are wonderful.
This would definitely complement my Prophet Rev 2.
The whole logue seies should've kept that vintage stereo silver likenit started. Would've gotten the prologue if it had that finish.
That’s sucks man! Keep us updated
I have had the replacement unit for 3 days now and have no issues. Will be making another ubxa video soon.
I'm surprised you're this positive about the build quality of the UB XA. I found the keybed awful, the knobs unpleasant to use (cheap plastic feel), and the LCD screen almost unusable. The interface was particularly terrible. I hate the million athropy options, give me a Sequential Style vintage knob any time. The sound was a bit disappointing too-thin sounding. While I did manage to create some nice patches, the overall experience brought me no joy. I sent it back after a week of disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Behringer hater-I own a P800 and a 2600, and they are lovely. However, after the UB XA disappointment, I ordered a Sequential Prophet 10 and was immediately blown away. I had some issues initially, but I got a good replacement, and now I smile every time I play it. I must say the Sequential instruments (I own a Pro3 too) are a couple of notches in quality above Behringer. It's unfortunate they appear to have quality issues, but they sound so good.
sir you are comparing a 4300 dollar synth to a 1200 dollar synth lol.
Exactly this. The ubxa isn’t offensive for its price point and the pots and knobs felt better imo than and ob6 or p6 in my opinion. The keybed is usable and again it’s $1200. The atrophy settings are also awesome.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon For me, less is more right now. I want every instrument I own to feel just right(like you), which means buying fewer but better-quality gear if I can afford it. I'm waitng for the TEO 5 to actually drop and see what it actually sounds like outside the professional synthfluencer bubble. Keep up the honest and very personal reviews. Question : do you still own the TC Electronic 2290 P ? Would you recommend it for synth ?
@@arjanr100 I do not own the 2290p anymore as I was downsizing. It’s great for synth but I recommend a strymon dig v2 more unless you value very precise control over the modulation section.
This reminded me that the Blackhole is solid, refined, and in a class by itself. I am guessing this is because of Eventide's long history with digital effects engineering. I do like some of the features on the Sloer, though admittedly have not used one.
I think the keybed is great. I personally like minikeys, but as minikeys go (relative to other minikey synths) it's top notch even before the polyphonic aftertouch. even without the synth engine, i use it as my main vst keyboard now, absolutely phenomenal with pigments.
I hate shipping. The industry should design shipping by drones!
Thank for this nice video! How do like the UB-XA compared to the OB-6? Are they an overlap? Do they complement each other? Is one better a certain things? Will you keep both? As an owner of an OB-6 I am really intersted in your opinion 🙂 Since the release of the UB-XA I am thinking about this. Currently I think they are to close in sound to have them both. However the OB-6 is great and the UB-XA has a great value...
The ob6 has a very different sounding filter but I actually really like the sound of the ubxa a bit more oddly enough. Epically for soft plucked style sounds.
I bought one for £120 ,it said it didn't work on his adapter ( spares or repair) so I took a chance then got it and plugged it in and it came on straight away with flashing lights , plus it was immaculate , chuffed.
My 0b6 knobs are rock solid 😅 and on the I dried it’s built superb! Real Seperate voice cards super easy to replace.. that’s a big deal… have you looked inside the UBXA??
Yes I have looked on the inside, it looks similar to the pcb on the new obx8 so no voice cards.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon voice cards are better that’s my point😃
😢that sucks dude !
Well, that was totally unexpected after you told me last time when we met that you will likely get a desktop version in the future. I'm the guy who got your B solina, btw. Looking toward more videos with UB and MX or Big sky (since that's what I have)
I couldn’t wait !
Going to wait a couple of years to get this synth cheap, 1200$ is too much imo.
So what analogue, bitimbral, 16 voice polysynth with 2 VCOs per voice, 2 LFOs, 2 EGs, dual pole VCF and polyphonic aftertouch can you get for $1200?
@@crhkrebs yeah true that
@@kenshiro2022 well, we all have different financial circumstances, so no one should should say what is, and what is not affordable for others. I’m just pointing out what that synth offers for the price point.
Ooof...
Hey YukiTSD; I consider you are top expert on CZcams for Reverb, you've had the opportunity to own many top quality effects pedals and your critical listening skills are highly valued. I have another CZcams channel where I have been teaching how to use the Zoom MS-70CDR, the last video I made 5 long reverb patches, I would be honored if you listen to them and tell me what you think. Trying to wring out all the best this pedal can do. At: czcams.com/video/I_xds4_0wcQ/video.htmlsi=YGqjkvXDlFgyQDEd (if you're too busy no worries).
As good as Peak? Also, I think polyphony might be down with the rPi handling keyboard control duties as the reason?
The reverb is on par with the peak. Nah keyboard functions don’t take much processing power and are more than likely handled by a separate mcu. The se has a keyboard and does 120 notes.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon wow. The Korg rPI synths really are nice designs that keep getting better if only by increments which is the Korg/Roland/Yamaha way. Purposely limiting polyphony could well have been a sales & marketing decision to justify charging nearly as much for the modules.
Your luck lately, dude
Lmao bro you always got something going on with your stuff. 😂
This time it was just shipping.
Every synth manufacturer in the world crossing their fingers when Yuki buys one of their synths.
Holy crap you make me so scared to buy anything
I could forgive all these little things (like a moderate quality keybed and no post effects) if UBXa has the multitimbrality! Otherwise... No... I don't have space for this synth. If I'll find a space then I'll better buy Polybrute 12!
It is Multi-Timbral…
@@YukiTheSynthDragon Bitimbral AFAIK.
@@KiR_3d Indeed, with 16 voices it could easily have been a one synth powerhouse if they had given it a proper dynamic multi-timbral engine, and bi-timbral isn't a proper substitute. It is find for layers, but not really useful for sequencing.
@@chokocat9064 yeah, it could be a kind of "replacement" for Andromeda A6
Great video! I have the Prophet Rev 2 I am thinking about getting the Novation Summit. My concern is that it may be similar to the Rev 2. Your thoughts are welcome Thank you.
Neve had a rev 2 but I have heard them in use, never liked the sound. The peak is subtractive and wavetable based and you can load up your own wavetables so I personally don’t think it has much overlap at all.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon Thank you!
I actually really like my UltraTap delay to design my own more modern style early rack style reverbs. Great review!
Thanks for another cool video. How does it compare to the peak for sounds? I'm tempted to get a peak after seeing your previous videos, but wondering if I should wait for the desktop version of this one to come out!
Peak is still a better synth for ambient stuff imo. The raw sounds of the peak are unmatched and then it also has the one of the best reverb, chorus, and delays only matched by the wavestate. Plus it’s way more versatile. I will say if you like the filter on the ubxa you won’t get that out of the peak, the filters are very different.
You doing the good work! Thank you! When I play mine together with Hydrasynth ASM , nothing can stop me!
Me too I had multiple units (19 actualy) of p6 and ob6 ALL with built quality nightmares like you say ... same thing with Minimoogs the 2016 and 2022 Minimoogs of which I had multipe units (i had 17) all with built quality nightmare...... 😆 ( That said I have the Dm12 which is really very good built quality and i sold my ob6 because i prefere it and that is true, i even kept it over a Moog voyager) (Moog Voyager i had 26 all with built quality nightmares)
How are you still enjoying the Solina a few months down the road? Too much of a one trick pony? Inspiration machine? Have you ever tried the Waldorf Streichfett?
Ended up selling it to clean up studio space. It is very much a one trick synth but it does sound good if you want that sound.
Thanks for the CAT video. Delayed vibrato my favourite feature of the CAT.
Switch to software lol
Hey, c’mon, the man isn’t 12.
Real dragons use hardware.
Maybe poor quality/badly designed packaging?
Could very much be, it also should have been sent in an outer box.
Why Fedex? Looks like a build/QC issue just like your P6 and OB6 no?
Totally, build/QC issue no question. If it was carrier damage, why isn’t there surrounding area damage.
The hole lines up exactly to that area that’s why I think it was shipping damage.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon not in that photo. The middle keys and case also broken? It’s obviously an assembly issue. Even their FB picture had a wonky key. 🤷♂️
