- This is a long video but I hope it also helps people with some troubleshooting tips and how I test synths. I have timestamps below for your sanity ! This is great for those buying new and used synths to make sure everything is great !

46:47 a few words about Tom Oberheim and about @SequentialLLC and closing thoughts ! - Hudba
Nice now I know how to check the internal temperature!
Your OB-6 has the Oberheim logo on it! That's pretty cool!
It looks great as well !
I am fan of this channel, flanging for life!
Sweetwater really did me a solid when I purchased a Hydrasynth from them which had a super unpleasant issue of blasting dial-up modem sounds at 2x patch volume.
They handled it with grace, aplomb, and speed.
At this point, I feel like I'd be nervous making a big synth purchase from elsewhere. I really don't enjoy their sales model - I basically *never* want to talk to a sales person on the phone, because that's how pressure persuasion works - but their customer service is the undefeated champ.
You have the trilogy!
Nice to see it working out for you. Have you been thinking about the TEO? Tom seemed to be quite happy that an OB synth would be so affordable. And what is rather impressive about it is that in many ways it is the most advanced OB ever made.
Yes, I plan on getting a teo as well.
Try both units in a dark room. P6 and OB-6 are notoriously known to have the LEDs leak issue. Some knobs seem engaged, when in fact they aren't. They glow and that could be annoying. Especially the preset LEDs.
P6 looks broken, send it to me and I'll see if I can fix it, then I will send it back and it will get lost in the mail, these things happen and I will even allow you to pay for postage.
I’m curious if the box said where the P6 was made. I noticed a prominent ‘Designed in California’ but I believe that it used to say that it was ‘made in San Francisco.’ If Sequential have moved manufacturing offshore, it might explain some QA hiccups. DSI/Sequential used to work with a contract manufacturer in the Bay Area that I believe is now building the Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave.
It does say assembled in the USA on both my ob6 and p6. My take 5 says designed in the USA assembled and china .
Because Sequential is Novation.
It's changed up.
Please make a comparison between OB-6 and Trigon-6.
I love my OB-6 to pieces (filter ist just gorgeous), but Trigon-6 is veeery tempting 🙂
That is my plan I will get to it soon !
I have an OB6 and LOVE it. Played a Trigon6 and love it too...definitely going to get one eventually.
Would love to hear how well the Peak deals with OB wavetables, I suspect the filter would make the biggest difference however. Are they the same oscillators as the Prophet? I need to check that out
The ob6 oscillators sound much brighter with the filter fully open.
But yes it’s going to be 90% from the filter ! The peak has a unique filter sound for sure especially with resonance up.
The ob-6 still sounded louder on the right channel even after adjusting your mixer, on my headphones. Hopefully it’s just your setup or cables and not the synth itself.
I noticed they’re putting the Oberheim logo on the front panel again. Seems like they were on again off again doing that. Is it a decal or silkscreened on now? It used to have Tom’s signature there. My OB6 I got second hand has Tom’s signature on the front and it says Dave Smith Instruments instead of Sequential on the back.
I’m an autistic techie too. And I hate Jira. 😁
It’s just a decal. But it does still have his signature on the rear of the unit by the ports. The panning issue was my mixer. But it seems that all my sequential synths have a little variance from left to right, which is in spec since it’s under 3 db. A few calibrations make it more even on each channel.
The trifecta!
Synth holy triforce
I stopped going to Sweetwater. My dealer last told me "I need to lower my expectations". Meanwhile, I'm spending over $2-3,500.00 on each piece of equipment. I had multiple quality issues with Moog and Sequential. Since then, I've spent about 30k on gear elsewhere.
I would reach out to management especially if you had build quality issues you can document. That might have been your dealer not having a good day.
What kind of problem did you have with Novation? Something concerning your Peak?
Just got my Peak, but didn't have the time to check everything yet.
Water damage from an apartment leaking above.
@@SteelNight7 oh ok, but then it was not a quality issue of the Novation product itself.
@@AngMoKio8 Not that I'm aware of, unless there was an issue with his new one.
The only issue I ever had with novation was I got an original circuit brand new without a power supply. They knew about the issue and they overnighted me a new one. Mostly the positive support I have had was asking them to add user wavetables to the peak and they actually responded to that but I’m not sure I’m the first one to asked back when it was new. Either way they followed though to that request and I assumed others asking the same.
Yeah my peaks never had any issues that were a build quality issue.
Damn are these things really that finicky? Build quality seems sus
Sweetwater is the best.
If it's that delicate, I don't want it.
