    SAME HERE! ... Its really weird how bad the qualitymanagement is on these high priced instruments. I got a brand new Prophet-6 and the "Shape 1"-Switch wont work correctly (Support tries to help but the cleaning routine makes it even worse) plus my knobs were also loose - from the four rows they got looser from the bottom to the top row. I send it back to the vendor and as no new P6 was in stock I ordered a Prophet-5 instead. The P5 comes in crushed and "wet" box (I hate if that happens) and got a different problem with the knobs: The knobs themself are firm and steady like a tank BUT each knob got a different "rotational resistance" plus the rotational resistance changed several times "per" knob! It was not possible to create smooth movements - so disappointing! 😞 I did not return the P5 as I noticed that the resistance-issue gets a little better if you really move the knobs a lot times very fast - still not a complete fix but I was really tired sending things back! Also the mono-out makes crackles and noises with tr-cables and effectpedals / audio-interfaces (even when they were "not" usb-powered). I could fix it with an TRS-Cable for the audio-interface but still problems with different high-quality effectpedals from strymon, ehx, walrus, etc. 😞 Some weeks later the Prophet-6 was back in stock at a different vendor and took another shot on it. I lost my mind when it arrives and behaves totally weird and crazy! Pressing "Freq 2" in the AT-Section starts the Sequencer; Filter-Knob in the PM-Section dont work at all and some other switches in one section made changes for other switches in different sections 😞 I was so mad - how could this be on these pricy instruments from such an important company?! ... Thanks to their P6-Forum I saw that there are many customers with these and different issues - and someone had contact with the support and they recommend to open the unit to dis- and reconnect the one big flatband-cable. As it was weekend (no support on weekend) I tried it - and thanks god it works. Now my P6 runs perfectly and the knobs are also much better as on the first unit I got. I´m ok now with the P5 and P6 but it really leaves a bitter aftertaste after all these problems that seem to occur very often - too often - with other sequential customers and devices. you can only laugh about the statements in their promo videos that every device is tested heavily and precise before shipping. Even very cheap synths from behringer feels much better in build-quality as my prophets (knobs and switches). I think that says everything right?

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon
      @YukiTheSynthDragon  Před měsícem +3

      Yeah I have never had this many issues with cheaper brands like Korg, roalnd, novation, Behringer, and others. These are flagship synths, they should be held to higher standards.

  • @alphabeets
    @alphabeets Před měsícem +3

    Send it back for a replacement. That’s the best way to get a manufacturer to notice and fix the issue. It costs the company significant money to take back in a unit. Keep sending them back for replacements.

    My first Prophet 6 module had a broken lfo knob. It was a very early serial number, just over 200.
    I bought a second one 3 years later and its been pretty good so far. The serial is in the multiple thousands.
    Generally speaking early units of a series are the worst. For example don't buy a model of a car in it's first year of production. By year 2 or 3 most problems have been fixed. Generally speaking.

  • @gourkernow5694
    @gourkernow5694 Před měsícem +1

    Agree that these problems shouldn't exist at this price, I think I was lucky that I got just one pot slightly loose on the OB6. The numeric button freeze on both units was thankfully not permanent and I'm wondering still to this day what caused it and why it went away? I've come to love my P6 and OB6 so much I didn't want to have to send them away for repair with all the extra risks that go with that.

  • @xenavectra5862
    @xenavectra5862 Před 29 dny

    There's a bunch of overlap between the Take 5 and the Prophet 6 anyways. Considering a Prophet 5 module is only a few hundred more, there's not much of a reason IMO to get a prophet 6 if you already own a Take 5. The Pro 800 is decent as well but at the end of the day it's clone of a synth that was meant to be a budget version of a P5. As someone who's played or owned all of these synths I mostly use the P5 and Take 5 for recording and gigging.
    Also generally not a fan of those kind of click buttons. My OBX8 has a minor issue with one of the buttons and it's pretty annoying.

      I agree with him. i see it often. People list a used synth as mint (full of pet hair) lol. What if pet hair gets inside the unit, then somehow blocks a sensor, so now certain buttons don't work? Now I have to open it up? I don't want or feel like doing that. I prefer to buy new, and it's the only way I do it. Feel safer with a warranty too.

    Sorry you’re still having quality issues and sending back the Prophet 6. Those patches are great, that pad would sound amazing through one of your reverb pedals. Maybe it’s better buying used with the Prophet 6/OB-6, at least you will know what you’re getting (if seller is open about any issues it has).
    I think Sequential/Oberheim changed pot suppliers for the newer synths like the Take 5 and Trigon 6 as they are stiffer turning and don’t loosen up like the ones on the P6/OB6. They do listen to customer feedback and make improvements, at least on newer synths. For years people griped about the panel flex on the Take 5 (really a non issue in my opinion) but I’ve read that people who bought new Take 5s and those with the TEO-5 have reported the panel doesn’t flex at all anymore.
    That said, I have lots of synths and I always gravitate to my Take 5 every time I turn them on. It’s my favorite polysynth.

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon
      @YukiTheSynthDragon  Před měsícem

      The take 5 and trigon do indeed seem to have the same pots which are very different from the p6 and a ob6. I also had no panel flex on the t5.

  • @TooSlowTube
    @TooSlowTube Před měsícem

    Have you tried a Rev2? It's the most expensive synth I've ever bought new, and I'm not entirely happy with it either. It's not about build quality though, it's the resolution of modulation being too coarse, especially for detune and unison spread. They both go up to 127, but 1 is almost too much, for me, so it may as well just be a switch.
    The Mopho and Tetr4 are the same, but I bought those cheaply, used, so that doesn't bother me so much.
    There's a thread on the Sequential forum that claims you can modulate one mod slot with another, to get finer modulation. Maybe that was true in a previous firmware, but in the final one it's not - the modulation is additive, not a multiplier, when you do that.

    • @YukiTheSynthDragon

The biggest problem for me on the BSII was losing patches while trying to save them, because it kept timing out while I was deciding where to put it, and switching the same buttons back to patch selection, so I lost it all. I tried to discuss it with their support but they just tied me up for weeks claiming to not understand what I was saying, and demanding that I make videos showing what I meant. I had to conclude they were doing it on purpose.

I also owned an ob-6 and a pro-3. And i've had problems with the keybed on the Pro 3, and loose knobs on the ob-6. I was considering a TEO 5, but the quality control makes me think twice. I've been to a music store and played with a p6 and i was shocked how the synth feld, rings were gone from the knobs etc. It just doesn't feel premium. A massive difference from my super 6.
