I am a professional Architectural Technologist. Drawing Technical is about practicing the 'Art of Draughtsmanship'. I entered the architectural/construction industry in the time where we use CAD (computer aided design, namely Revit and AutoCAD), and sometimes I hear my seniors talking about the old days when they had to draw everything by hand.
I practice architectural (and engineering) draughstmanship as my contribution to keeping this precision art alive, and I also want to develop and retain this skill within myself. I'm going back to the roots of architectural draughtsmanship. This channel is a documentation of my journey into the old ways.
I offer a service to produce planning drawings for house extensions, if you live in the UK and would like me to do your house extension drawings for planning, contact me below on my email.

Hey man, just wanted to say thank you. Your vids have been a life saver for me as I'm learning draughtsmanship.
Ah, thank you for your comment. I suppose I shouldn't stop and make more. It's tough to make videos with a busy schedule, but I will try something. Appreciate your kind words.
@@DrawingTechnical It's no pressure. It's already more in depth than most vids. It'll do till I pick up a book. 👍
Breaking leads, really? As an artist and writer who only exclusively uses Staedtler pencils - specifically the lead holders. I haven't had any lead breaks in the 16 years I've been using the lead holders. It could very well be you're applying too much pressure when you sharpening - or it could be as simple as a defective sharpener.
Hello, yes in the video I was trying to see how hard the lead is, i made it break on purpose out of curiosity. I am confident that lead pens won't break from drawing pressure. Thanks for your comment. Also with the sharpener, the tub was full, that was the problem, solved now.
now its 399 a year
Check to see if you have a broken lead down in the sharpener hole. I had 2 stuck down in there, used a needle to push them out and walla(😂), works fine. Took me a half hour to clean all the graphite dust.
After the video I found that the problem was that my tub was full. I felt silly after emptying it and it worked.
@@DrawingTechnical are saving the graphite that is emptied from your barrel. True graphite artis save the shavings into a small glass jar to save some money
@@judyferguson3185 no I threw it out into the bushes. I don’t know what I could do with it, maybe shading.
@@DrawingTechnical yes, shading. You get a very soft look, no pencil marks at all. And a little bit goes a long way.
Love your voice and presentation!
Thank you :) I was just trying to not wake the kids 😂
I am watching this video while downloading crack version for free😂
help, i cant see that botton now
Used to draw on a drawing board. Today I use Ipad with Morpholio Trace as its the modern day drawing board.. good to see drawing boards are still being used today.
Hello. One of my colleagues showed me his ipad with morpholio trace, and he had an apple pencil too, it was great. I wish to have one some day.
i do most of my line work then i select all of the lines whose styles i want to change then change them over on the left. very handy if you just want to get it all out of your head first.
That sounds like a smarter way of working, good tip 👍
Hello, I'm looking forward to the follow up video
Hello, okay I’ll make the video as soon as possible. I can confirm that this mouse is great for me when using it with CAD softwares like Autocad and Revit. I’ll show how in the upcoming video 👍
Wow, it's my first time watching this channel, I must say I didn't expect such comedic genius here 😅 But where's the promised Victorian era tool set review?! Please, record it!
Thank you for your great comment. I keep thinking about doing it, it’s just an arms reach behind me. I will do it because you asked :)
@@DrawingTechnical Aw, thank you so much! ^^
@@DrawingTechnical I'm still waiting :o
Never buy Autocad, Autodesk is a predatory company which doesnt care for you. There are many other brands available.- Zwcad, bricscad, progecad, g starcad, rhino.
Agreed. Autodesk is a greedy company that only cares about siphoning money from people’s wallets.
I made a complaint video about Autodesk here: czcams.com/video/xk9NamDnMvE/video.htmlsi=WjJeLvBQSeNWvzgP
Thanks a lot
Can this be used as Bluetooth?
I don’t think it connects to a Bluetooth receiver, it has a little usb receiver that comes with it. I’ll have to double check.
No sir, walls are not responding
Thank You! Do You know how to insert multiple points in NanoCAD?
Hello, you mean where you break up a line by adding vertices to it?
@@DrawingTechnical I have approximately 200 points (X, Y coordinates), and I want to add all of them at the same time.
you know any method of drawing parallel lines??
Yes, I show how to draw parallel lines in this video, using a compass; czcams.com/video/LUsBsKmg-ro/video.htmlsi=kN5bC0A8cUsPfv-F
@@DrawingTechnical and a chain of parallel lines,?
@@kingsman3087 in that case I would use a drawing board and set squares instead of struggling with techniques. You can get drawing boards from a company called ‘the big orchard’, use code DRAWTECH10 to get 10% off your order
Hi buddy, the best way is to use a hatching ruller. The "Linex" one, in particular, is quite good.
The reason you are making a mess with the technical pen is because you are using a FLAT EDGE RULE. Do not use a FLAT EDGE RULE. Either buy a raised rule for use with technical pens OR tape a penny under each end of the flat ruler t raise it up off the paper. This will stop the 'mess' you are making using the technical pen to draw lines.
A great tip thank you
Is NanoCAD still free? Auto Cad expensive and the NanoCAD website has a price.😵 Looking yo get an alternative CAD software, any suggestions?
NanoCAD 5.0 should still be free. If it's not available on the website anymore then that's a shame, I was writing a book about NanoCAD 5.0
@@DrawingTechnical no worries, I got it to work! You’re the best! I graduated 2 years ago and been looking for a free option from Autocad and this is amazing! Thank you!
Very nice >>>>> Thank you .
So funny, thanks man!
Glad you enjoyed it
OMG get to the point!
Sorry. Point noted for future videos.
You have quite a lot of lead out while drawing. A shorter lead will break way less
I was just testing how hard the lead feels.
Also, if you tend to, don't have so much of the tip out. In the video, it appears as though the lead is out of the clutch much more than needed. Just a thought.
Hello, I was just testing how hard the lead feels.
How to apply dynamic input
If you are used to be the users of AutoCAD, Not easy to change to be other users.
Nanocad is just a Russian copy of Autocad,
Something’s wrong in my end because my lead just snaps off immediately with the rotating one
It was happening to me and I found that it was because my tub was full, when I emptied it, it worked again
you are great easy , nice explination
Thanks and welcome
Great! Keep the solutions as fast as this one BRAVO!!
Thanks, I try to
Do you know if expensive lead like? Steadler is better than cheaper ones? A pack of their lead is like $14 but other 2 mm lead is like $5
At the moment I only have faber castell leads and Staedtler leads, $14 seems a bit much, try seeing the faber castell ones, they are good
@@DrawingTechnical yeah I live in Canada so $14 Canadian is probably like $8 or $9 American. But I'll see if I can find it. Amazon usually sells everything more expensive
Works for me
I found the problem, the tub was full to the top with lead dust and it worked after I emptied it
I have used AutoCAD for many years until i retired 16 years ago, I have tried others downloads but not yet found one I like, this one looks like it might fit the bill. I will load this on my desk top, can I also download it to my lap top or do i need another license and can I get a second license. I have watched quite a few of your NanoCad tutorials and would like to say I like the way you explain the process I will be watching more of your tutorials, Please keep them coming
Thanks for your comment, yes you can download multiple and I think you can get multiple licenses for free, I have it on my PC and my laptop. I better get back to continuing the tutorials, thanks 🤝
6:20 you have to enter the command called: PLAN
I have both, I use both. The Staedtler for my desk, and the Faber Castell is always with me in my keychain for whenever I’m walking in the field during surveys.
That’s a great idea putting it on a keychain!
Hi there. I have TK 9400 that holds 2mm leads and one that holds 3.1 leads. ....but not the appropriate sharpener. Can I sharpen the thicker leads of 3,1 mm with the small Fabee Castell sharpener as well or only the 2mm leads ? Or do I have the order another one for the thicker ones ?
Hello, I've just examined the small Faber Castell sharpener and the Staedtler tub sharpener, both of them look like they can only take 2mm leads and no bigger. It seems you'll have to find a sharpener for a 3.1 lead. Hope that helps.
I've got my grandfather's drafting instruments manufactured in the early 1940's pre war. I also have his machinist level, calipers, dividers, lead holders for 4h - HB, sharpener for leads, I use the lead holders, the dividers, weekly and other tools occasionally.
That's great, a generational treasure! I have some sets and after researching, it seems the brass set I have is from 1850s, which is very interesting. I use them for my works, they are soft a bit like maleable gold.
you are expert on neither it seems thats ok .....................autocad has snap options u cant miss the point... it will snap the cursor.... by looking at the menus on nanocad it has the menus too just adjust the snap settings ur problems will be solved. for the toolbar nuisance we have commands like L for lines REC fo rectangle C for circles etc.
At the time I was new to AutoCAD and had to learn it for my office job, I'm much more adept with it now using it together with Revit on the other screen. Perhaps it's time for an updated video.
@@DrawingTechnical please do make a new one if possible....videos on cad softwares are hard to find and i appreciate your work for that. Thanks for the reply. i apologize if i sounded rude in my first comment.
No problem
Thank you, it is very useful for you. Do you connect steel the same way you did or another way?
I believe you do connect the steel the same way. Also a little tip, if you draw a reference plane across and steel beam/column, you can cut the beam to the line so you can make diagonal cuts too.
Do you know where I can buy frost proof bricks?
No but the techniques of joining the bricks together help to prevent frost damage, the mortar can be shaped in a way to stop moisture from sitting between the bricks. There's other construction techniques to consider also.
Thank you for your reply!@@DrawingTechnical
You're welcome.
Looks like you may have snap to grid on
Yes that was it thanks
The diagonal lines really should be just how you said it. It always trips me up how it's the opposite.
Yes, it still makes me stop and think as well. At work I’ve made myself a diagram of the dash line direction and have pinned it up. Thanks to that I’m starting to get used to how the lines are marked on a door. The pointy part is the hinged part.
lol
Nice, what’s mechanical pencil is you’re using?
Thanks it’s the Staedtler 780c, I have a review video of it somewhere in my library of videos
I have been using the m908 model(pretty much identical but wired only) for 3 years now. I use it for blender 3d, aftereffects and i cant imagine working without the mouse. Im looking into buying this one too.
I wanted to get that one because it has adjustable weights in it, looked cool like loading a gun chamber. I got this one because I didn’t want wires to get in the way, and it’s pretty comfortable, the weight of it is fine for my big hands
Regarding the black cap in the end of the lead package,it matches the black stripe on the end of the package showing the lead hardness is "HB". On my package of 2B hardness lead, the cap and colored stripe showing the hardness are both lavender. I think Staedtler intends the include cap to be used to denote what grade is loaded into the holder by changing the cap. This may work but is not very good because one has to have the package to know what grade corresponds to the cap! There are much better ways to tell the grade of lead in the holder directly!
Yes, it would probably bet better if they printed the lead grade on the cap itself, I think you can get a set of these Staedltler pencils for the purpose of setting the grdaes marked on the clip.
Free like
Thanks lol
@@DrawingTechnical you deserve it mate
Thank you, your comment is much appreciated :)
Do you have the measurements of all the parts?
Hello, did you want the measurements of the window in the drawing?
@@DrawingTechnical yes I do need the measurements
Hello. the window is drawn at 1:10 scale, it's 910mm wide and 1210mm high. The dimension from the bottom of the sill to the underside of the smaller right side opening casement is 750mm. Let me know if you need anything else.
