  • In this video I show you how to draw a cavity wall detail and ground construction detail in nanocad. This software is very similar to AutoCAD in how the tools are used to draw on the interface. Someone told me it's identical to older versions of AutoCAD.

I enjoy using this software and will be exploring it some more in future videos.

Is nanocad 5 free? And is there a once off payment for nanocad pro?

Nanocad 5 is free, but NanoCAD pro is a yearly subscription, about $200 per year.

I can tell you are used to revit. Autocad pro here, I am used to commands, I don't use the fucking buttons to work. left hand types the command and my right hand directs the cursor where to go. That is why I find working with Revit very different.

I need to get used to what the keyboard shortcut commands are. At the moment what I find frustrating it typing in the commands and selecting them, I would rather press 2 letter keys at max to activate a command. Does autocad have 2 button commands?

@@DrawingTechnical AutoCAD is command based. Revit is procedural. You can't teach experience. This is not something that I do, this is something that I am.

Right 👍 I think I will catch up in the CADS quite quickly.

Why arent you drawing by using commands, copying lines, using x and y values? Im my apprenticeship of course we worked with autocad but still, in a work environment this way of drawing takes too long...

I've seen my seniors using AutoCAD very quickly with commands, I'm not used to AutoCAD or nanoCAD, haven't been using it long and when I had to use AutoCAD at work, it took a while to get my work done because I come from Revit as a background. AutoCAD enables me to draw better details than Revit so that's one of the reasons I'm forcing myself to use it.

@@DrawingTechnical The devil is in the details. Architecture is in the end an art not a science. So how do Revit users detail connections?

@@michaelsonsarmiento5943 Revit has a drafting sort of mode with basic drafting tools. You can do call outs of parts of the model, the call outs don't look so great, so we use them as guidelines and draw better hatches over them.
With some skill you can make drawings look good in Revit, I research my senior's AutoCAD drawings and use them as reference to do drawings on Revit.
It's noticed unfortunately that making good artistic drawings is a dying art with the younger generation, I suspect it's because of relying on Revit's viewing abilities too much.

you must learn the basics and not the shortcuts
