The Social Media Modeler Myth | Boomer Diorama ~ # 268
Social Media is the perfect alter ego for every individual. It rarely tells the true story and often times perpetuates the mythical persona. In reality, we are all very similar and share the same tragedy and bliss if we live long enough.

    A great take. This is why I try not to shy away from showing mistakes in my videos and photos. It serves a dual purpose:1) it shows I am not a professional and therefore should never be considered someone to emulate by anyone watching, and 2) maybe it will help someone else avoid the same mistake.

    just curious as I've not seen it in any video yet. I do have some Tamiya but I don't use it a lot, more a Vallejo and Instar (UK paint company), but not seen you using the Tamiya X-20 Thinner. I only ask as I've always been told you must use the Tamiya Thinner with the Tamiya paint. Another reason for not using them that much

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama Před dnem

      I use X-20 thinner sometimes on a special locomotive or model. Most of the time I use 50% to 99% IPA to thin with. Been doing it for over thirty years now and never had a problem.

  • @andrewlaverghetta715

    I don't do much photography professionally anymore, but I've got one photo on my page somewhere that shows the setup to photograph "artaments," which were basically little bits of art that were entended to be Christmas tree ornaments. The artaments were eventually auctioned off to benefit something, but I photographed them in exchange for some publicity. I had about 3 different lights for the bulk of the shots, plus a background, and put all of them on a pedestal. Then I had another rod going over the top to show how they were suspended. The pictures were clean, for the auctions, but the shot showing my setup was so chaotic. Still, it really bugs me when I hear somebody taking 5 shots of everything they do at an event or at a wedding. You're just making more work for yourself. Get better and take one shot, maybe two. You can learn what you're looking for instead of hoping you'll get something good. I definitely know what you mean by the 2 shots in 36. I've heard something similar with medium format film and it's 12-15 shots per roll, and now how people have thousands of photos on a single card. I actually also used to shoot 4x5 film. It's not fun to set up a camera and focus unless you know the shot is good, but still...

As for the warehouse that nobody knows what its use was (14:55), well, I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but it was used to deliver atomic nuclear waste, which was then transferred into caskets at the warehouse and buried at the local cemetery under false names using false death certificates on tombstones. That proved to be much cheaper than dealing with it the way the governmental environmental agencies required it be treated. (No, I'm not serious.) Give my best to Dusty. Smart dog you said ? I had a mix husky, escape queen she was. Left her inside CN caboose with window door open. When i return she was outside. She climb conductor seat, walk on its desk and pass through the window opening. Next day i left but with close window. Outside again ! While standing and scratching the doir, she hit the locking pin, put it down, then succeed in turning stiff T door knob and pull open the door. She could di that in matter of seconds. So i had no choice than to chain the door from outside. A 60 pounds dog passing through a 6 or 8 " opening window. Amazing. On a sad note, Noirot my oldest cat passed away on july 3rd. He was 21 years 10 months and 6 days. Or 104 years in human counting. Being born home, it´s quite a long odyssey partner that is gone. Since Boomer lost a 1 year cat with renal issue, Noirot lived many years with one too. I gave him renal food + medications for stimuling pooping (no fiber in its food). Once it get clogged and just seeing the vet finger emptying.....poor cat. Boomer learned to avoid trackage too close from fascia and risk of fall. Same for me. House is about 68 meters or more than 200 feet from tracks. Just in case autoracks decide to not follow the rails.... To our south of the border friends, happy 4th of july.

    The crucial point, I believe, is that if you want to show something "good" then you need to practice, practice, practice. Not only the modelling aspect, but also the filming aspect. But the best thing that I have found with social media, especially the likes of CZcams, is when mistakes are also shown, as you have in a number of clips, and how you corrected the problem. It is those types of video that really help others. Unfortunately, not many think this way.
