You are very gracious.😁You must have achieved quite a few remarkable models. I like it when people are humble enough to tell the truth about reality when it comes to achieving success.
Some of the best model-makers I ever knew never published any of their work, but they blew my mind. Furthermore, I still can't achieve their level of pure craftsmanship, but their work lives on in my memory and compels me to do better. 😉

Thanks for the shingle video!! I'm building an HO 3-D printed version of the Christmas Story house (purchased online) and was thinking about improving the roof details. Love to see how you lay the shingles on the roof peaks as well as paint the roof shingles. Detail is everything!! For this Christmas Story house, I'm going to "string" Christmas lights around the 3 sides of the porch using colored 0201 size LEDs dabbed with some similarly colored nail polish to form light bulbs. All the best ...

FIRST, thanks for showing us the Tichy shingles! I use a LOT of Tichy's parts and I had no idea these were available. I'm gonna order some right now...
SECOND, I agree with you that live commentary synchronized with the video is much better, but there are many of us who do not have either the extemporaneous speaking skills you have, nor the ability to do quality modeling work at the same time we are talking. One thing or the other - or both! - come out wrong. So we'll all enjoy your marvelous videos, but please recognize that us lesser mortals have to make do the best we can!

Respectfully, I was only comparing to those who ask me why I don't do voice over.😁 It wasn't directed to anything else. 😊 It's unfortunate that I get a reputation for being cynical due to social media interpretation, when in fact, I am not really cynical at all but rather up front about how I like to do things. 😉

@@boomerdiorama You know, it's amazing how the tone of the written word (i.e. my original comment) can so easily be different than the intention. I took *no* offense at your "no voice over" remark; I was mostly admiring your ability to do expert modeling work (which it is) at the same time you are explaining what you are doing. The fact that the explanations are so clear, and so concise, leaves me in awe.
And on a separate note, people who have not tried to make a video of their projects simply can't fathom how much harder it is to do modeling work under a camera, and how much longer the entire process takes (at least, I never could until I tried it!) So, thanks for all your hard work, and thanks for inspiring "us lesser mortals!"

As you know Ron editing is a deep black hole we can pursue forever.
I don't blame people when they say - "can you do this and that" - etc. In most cases I did, but it simply did not turn out and there is no way I am going back. If I did, I would have no layout to film, or would have to stop sleeping. If you are not disciplined in this life you will not make it as a content creator simply put . . . lol.
If the video does not come out well initially during video production I simply do not have the time to wrestle with it. Post production can bury you into oblivion. I have no time for additional voice overs, when I have to do other inserts and reshoots as well. In a perfect world maybe - but not in my life . . . lol. 🤣

I had four completely edited videos I chucked into the trash last year. The amount of unused footage I have is ridiculous. I'm only very, very slowly getting better at this, so I still do an astounding number of idiotic things when trying to record video. Of course, the worst is when everything went great with what you were trying to do and after an hour of recording, you realize you never hit the record button properly, or the tripod head or whatever wasn't locked down and it slowly tilted down towards the ground or whatever and you have no video. lol

Lol . . . sorry. I don't mean to laugh at that only because I do the exact same thing.
One thing I will do is set up everything as perfectly as I can, including lights, camera, etc. Take a few stills for "bracketing" - then I walk away and go have a coffee. I think it through, and try to get the video in one take - the more I reshoot the worse it can get - but not always.
Keep at it - we all get better the more we practice. Cheers ~ Boomer. 👍

Video is incredibly difficult to shoot well consistently due to the changing light source and depth of field issues associated with miniatures. I have fairly good equipment, lenses, etc, but way more invested in lighting - and air conditioning . . . lol.
Most just point and shoot (on auto) which will often fail. Post editing can only do so much. I still strive to shoot good video and accept it as a very steep learning curve that requires total concentration.
You also need a small aperture for miniature photography which means "huge" lighting that needs to move with it. This is why in film the camera moves very little unless it is synthetic CGI.😁😉

I don´t do video, so here´s my hint.
The other day, Boomer was looking my layout when suddenly "honey, i need sugar".
"Coming" i answered. Boomer was lost. I explain him that instead of imaginary moves, i really carry sugar from rafinery to bakery in covered hoppers. Tea bags in gondolas and so on. It gives a new dimension to layout and moving trains. At the end of that joy ride, what moved for real in HO world end in the kitchen.
Try that on big layouts, with really long unit kitty litter trains. What a good way to use mega powerful modern power with 2 leaders, a middle DPU and back pusher !
The best way to test how good engineer you are, if trackwork is really smooth and if your freightcars are good runner.
If not, vaccum crew will do overtime.
And hurry up, Dusty wants its clean litter.
