A beautiful build. A great pleasure to watch. I agree with your choice of lens. I've had the same lens for a long time. I use Nikon because the pictures taken are the same colours as the real thing. Where as Canon pictures always have a red hint to them.
Why is the station set back from the track ? Is it to do with the era of the station build, or the modern company layed track?
The Nikon lens made in Japan are the best. ;-)
The station is portrayed as the prototype is. The prototype was moved from its original location and set back from the mainline track for preservation purposes. It reflects the history of their origins. Therefore, I convey the model on the layout in the same way to indicate the railroad chose to preserve it with support from the municipality. The SRY Rail Link Railroad is known for working with the community when they upgrade right-of-way features and subjects.

Dear Boomer, the running out of the alignment with the shingles, that’s just like mounting true to scale shingles, whether wood, slate, EPDM or bituminous, on a real roof surface. Especially with larger roof surfaces. To prevent it I learned to use chalk line reference lines similar to the v-groove sheets, plus a formed piece of zinc or sendzimir folded with to straight edges. The lowest edge butting up to the lower end of the previously mounted shingle line and the higher one butting up to the next line of shingles to be mounted. That way it’s easier to anticipate for possible bumps and indentations, which only become noticeable when the shingles are running out of the lines.
Love how the roof adds so much character to the building. Absolute pleasure to watch this build! Cheerio

I have been struggling to find shingles for my Addison Marina and watching this has solved my problem, Tichy Train Group, why didn’t I think of them, I use them for everything else. Lovely little station! Thanks for all the tips and inspiration. On my "someday" list is a Burlington depot as seen in many Nebraska towns. Quite different in structure, but many of your construction techniques will still apply. As the weather improves, I need to hop in the car and go measure a couple of the surviving Burlington depots of the style I want to copy. So, you have had an influence on how I want to address the projects.

Inks make excellent washes due to their transparency.

I think this series surpasses the Diner as my favorite structure build. The subject hits really close to Colorado Midland Station at Leadville CO. which I would love to scratch up. Guaranteed I will watch this series several times in the future. I've watched the Silver Creek Playlist at least three time now and I'm not even doing scenery yet! lol. Wow! Just amazing! Love the pot belly stove! There was a guy back in a 70’s? Issue of model railroader, that made bears for his layout out of plastic sprites, he’d melt a couple into a wad of plastic, and used a soldering iron to carve them out, when asked how he did it he said you just carve away anything that doesn’t look like a bear! And then you come along a whip up a pot belly stove, just like throw it together, no big deal! Beautiful model, you’re a big inspiration! Thank you for sharing your talents with us!
I knew a guy once who could carve an unbelievable Dragonfly with all the wings with his pocket knife and a scrap piece of wood in half an hour. His carving skills just blew me away. He would carve them out while telling a story and just give them to people unexpectedly . . . lol.😆

Awesome. I model n scale so far, but this channel had definitely made me want to work in HO, especially after building an N scale French depot. It’s so small and fiddly, it’s hard to find the size of stuff that I feel I need to use.

I modeled in N Scale decades ago. I think it's a great scale - especially now - a -days. Problem is, I can't see it with the old "boomer" eyes. ;-)
Another great video, with some useful tips. I personally build in card, but a lot of your methods are transferable.
Building with card and sheet styrene is fundamentally the same practice other than the medium itself. Therefore I agree with you. ;-)
I used to watch your vids and feel wholly inadequate. I’m still just as much in awe, but my modeling has improved, and I’m happy. I’m no where near this level, but through things I’ve learned here and other channels…. My hobby looks great!

I know you model in the modern age but I'm sure you must be aware of the Transnational final spike tour of CP 2816 the Empress.
Because I model in the 50's I run and have a good collection of steam and early dieses. I have been following the Empress on it's journey across America. It's also being supported by a couple of F units which makes it that more significant to see both running together at the same time. There's ariel video of it leaving Canada on it's way to Mexico. I could swear they're in Kansas. They're really booking wasting no time getting here.
I heard about that excursion. Been on that locomotive a few times!

Great series Boomer. Much was learned in construction of the station. Perception of a project that starts with exterior plans or photos is never enough without thinking of the actual skeleton of the structure. That and the progression and techniques you use has given me ideas towards new structures for my railroad.

I all hearty agree on NIKON. I stated about 55 years ago with a Nikkormat. Best way to learn photography is with film.
. . . and the best film to learn on is Black & White as well.

Yes the lens was worth it. The beauty shot is only as good as the equipment shooting it. I can build something that’s so detailed in person but take an iPhone photo and it just looks so plain. Good camera is definitely needed. I don’t know where to start other than Nikon 😊
The lens is more important than the body. Lighting is key as well.

Really nice simple stove. But stationmaster won´t be happy when he´ll light it to see it melt and catch fire. All station at risk. But plastic kettle full of plastic water will extinguish it.😮😊

Hi Boomer, I really enjoyed this series. As a building engineer I love model buildings. But it learned me a lot. I was especially amazed by the small details you can make in H0 scale; that heating: absolutely fantastic! Lighting looks great too. What kind of lighting do you use to get this effect?
I use woodland Scenics Lighting system along with Evans Lighting as well. They are both very easy with built in capacitors.

I work in film and watching all of your videos I can’t for the life of me figure out if you were a carpenter or a scenic or in SFX! Sometimes I think carps, then other times scenic! Which department were you in?

Awesome build. Two questions: 1. What are your thoughts on using paper instead of .005 styrene? Why or why not? Drawbacks? and 2. Could you elaborate a bit on the lighting you used? For lack of a better descriptive, it seems to project a welcoming warmth.
Paper has a place in model building. I don't use it because it is not stable enough for me and warps over time due to humidity. Furthermore. I like to texture and paint my models with a certain style that is not compatible with paper.
The lighting is simple: I use Woodland Scenics Lighting and Evans. They both have great options for different colors etc. Neither of them need capacitors and are easy to install - and compatible with each other for the most part.

A quick question, do you have light bleen out of your wiring hole in the floor, or are all the lights sectioned off? I have had that issue with building on piers (blocks) where the light comes out under.

2 details i tryied to see from your station´s book. Power line. Some are underground and others aerial with pôles, câbles (phone and power) plus metal tubing along the wall and meter (that applied also to rail crossing signal box). In good old days
station´s operator used telegraph to communicate to other stations along the line. In more modern times it was radio air waves. Hence antennas. Could be on their own metallic three legs pole or on roof. Can´t see them. Plus VIA sign if there is service. In Dorval (Montréal),
I ´ve not been there since a few years, so i don´t know if it´s still there, there was LRC and Turbo speed sign along the track. Even if Turbo were retired in 1982 (1968 - 1982).
On street view, you still have a CN semaphore in Joliette (QC) at 95 Baby street (north side). There was also a CPR one that can´t be seen.
Relics can have a pretty long life !
I don't bother with telegraph lines until the layout gets finished. Otherwise I tear them all down. ;-)

If I may, why did you chose plastic shingles instead of other material?
O.K. Good question.
There are other equally good materials for shingles which I have used in the past. However, I choose plastic shingles because the whole model is plastic and I like to "weld" or "melt" plastic for (chemical) bond over (mechanical) bond integrity. I also prefer to paint plastic rather than wood and paper because I prefer to paint wet-on-wet with water based acrylic paints.
Furthermore, plastic is impervious to water, moisture and warping. Wood and paper model warp over time due to moisture and humidity ;-) ~ Cheers ~ Boomer.
Humm i may be wrong, but something that i wonder. Why a so well maintained century old station is in a grassy bushy dead zone ? Not even a road access if
it´s still of some use by maintenance crew. I know it can be move to a better location. Too much time was poured in its construction to end up in a dead fill. Sorry for that critic, but a jewel lost on grass is an unfair loss.

Hi Boomer, "you have to accept whatever you want (to build) " you rougly said in part 1 (yes i went back to 1). I watched that final episode but my eyes were probably more focused on your "forest area" that is great, than drab grey parking lot. So station i agree is not planted in the nowhere. Like you said it isn´t functional for the railroad anymore. A restored one. Your choice is as good as mine, and everything is a matter of compromises. You don´t have room or plan to have a "city" nor an isolated small hamlet to put it in.
That´s more a casual location. Even if sometimes stations that in fact were crew change location could be in the middle of nowhere, sometimes real tiny one can be moved from their location when track was removed and reuse. Canada Posts Arundel station (QC) is a good example from Montfort Colonization Railway (CN) with a piece of track and memorabilias added.
Some lucky one survived long after track removal in 1955 like the 1865 builted St Armand (QC) from Montréal & Vermont Jct railroad (CV, CN) that went à bank, a post office and finally a city hall. Depending on era choosen, ornementations have diminished. Square insulated water tower nearby is long gone.

@@danielfantino1714 Well . . . the original Station I live one kilometer away from is in the middle of nowhere on the the Fraser River - CN Mainline. Have you ever heard of "Fort Langley"?
The station is restored and pushed back from the main so it doesn't get wrecked by freight trains. It was restored and moved to a new location - same thing I did on RIver Road when you think about it. Cheers and thanks for sharing. 😁

I agree station is farther from track. But far too many trees. Can´t read railcar name ! Taylor something...don´t remember anyname like that. Nice neighborhood. Have a rough idea where you are. Won´t say a word and my "noodle neighbor" is closer and offers many daily trainquakes. Being closer to Montréal i would have the noodle + the Beaver + commuter + VIA + planes above and highway ! Glad not to be there 😊
