Back in March 1982 I flew from Tokyo( Narita) to Heathrow via Moscow where it was -10 degrees in Moscow😀. On board were a stack of Kubota and Datsun Dealers. Flying across the length of Russia was incredible. Mostly snow. The DC8 on take off from Moscow was Noisy as hell with all the ashtrays vibrating just before the brakes were released, then we shot up rapidly into the air. The reason we went across Russia was that Anchorage was shut off by the snow.

When I was eight my dad took me to see the Comet, which was at De Havillands in Hatfield undergoing flight testing,. When we walked into the hangar I thought it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. We went on board, just the two of us, and sat in the Pilot/Copilot seats for some time. All of the systems were live and I remember the lights, levers and switches and the cosy blue-grey interior. I will never forget that summer evening so long ago.

That Bell Helicopter. Like the ones used by M*A*S*H units. My uncle owned one. He purchased it from Florida highway patrol. My uncle was an instructor. Helped teach many a person how to fly a helicopter. Even showed a Sheriff Dept. how to fly one. When the Dept. purchased one. It was a sad day for my uncle when he had to stop flying and teaching because of health issues. Could not pass the FAA medical requirements anymore.

The L-188 Electra's early demise was a sad end for an aircraft related to the famed Lockheed P-3 Orion maritime patrol aircraft, and the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft. Both latter types enjoyed over 50 years' outstanding military service worldwide. Here downunder, Electras had incident-free careers with our major airlines of the time. After those US crashes revealed serious design flaws with the type, Lockheed produced modification kits for retrofitting all Electras in service. A photo from Ansett's Avalon (Vic.) heavy workshops showed installation of one such kit. I believe the Allison turboshaft engines got a 1.5 degree uptilt as part of extensive main wing modifications. Air New Zealand operated L-188 Electras on trans-Tasman routes until introduction of DC-8 jets in 1972. My first international flight was aboard an Electra, from Wellington NZ to Brisbane (Queensland) Australia in 1970. I'm still here in Oz. In Australia, Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) and Ansett each operated three Electras on trunk routes between the Australian mainland state capital cities (and later to Port Moresby PNG) from 1959 until 1971. Ansett had its Electras converted to freighters in 1970-71 and continued to fly them until 1984.

I believe that the nine cresent shaped objects seen by Kenneth Arnold in 1947 that started the modern UFO craze were YB-35's. It was a thousand miles from where thay were housed, along the coast to where Arnold saw them. If you look up photographs of the flying wings, you'll see a couple showing nine of them on a runway. It was also a year later to the day after the American Atomic Energy Commision met to discuss how to make nuclear energy socially acceptable, "If the Aliens have Atomics, we better have them too!"

Interesting how the film mentions constructing parking facilities for 30,000(!) cars. If only I could go back in time with just enough evidence to convince the LAX airport planning board to bring some type of rail line into the airport while there was still space for it. I was 9 at the time….. when we got to the gate lounge, and I could see the aircraft, I told my mum I didn’t want to go…. Because it was a dc-10. At age 9, I already knew the troubles of the dc-10 and I just didn’t want to go. It was the only time I ever flew a dc-10 in my entire life…..

Two years too late to be part of this Video. as I started with Eastern as a Steward in 1975 but my first Schedule ( Line of flying), was JFK to Bermuda. I was only 21 but the Chief Steward (Senior Flight Attendant) on board. It was a turn-around 5 days on and only 2 days off, but at least I could somewhat schedule my life! LOL We served a full dinner with drinks in both First Class and Coach on such a short flight and believe it or not finished !Then came through the cabin after dinner with baskets full of butter mints! No offense to modern day Flight Attendants, but we worked our asses off!!
