  • Silent film that I believe to be an airline premium; this was most likely sold at airport gift shops, and/or mail order via an advert in the on board amenities pack. Short, but VERY RARE scenes of Condor's SOLE "Rolls Royce" 707!! Be sure to check my channel for the best in VINTAGE & RARE airliner videos!

    Clearly one of the short Super8 films that many airlines - especially charter - sold on bord, to cut into your holiday home movie. I still habe two of these.

    Am I the only one that misses boarding the plane from ground level? It used to be part of the excitement of flying, walking past the plane was such a neat experience!

      You are so right. The noice and the smell walking toward the plane, and the sight of the busy airfield.

      Lars took the words right out of my mouth..."The smell of the jet fuel and the wind in your hair"

      to adelaideTotally agree with you, I remember as as a young teenager walking out to the DC9's & 727'S of TAA & ANSETT-ANA at Essendon Airport in Melbourne to board the flights to Perth in Western Australia, this was before Melbournes new international Airport opened @ Tullamarine & was not a direct flight, we usually took a DC9 to Adelaide then a 727 to Perth this was in the1960's, but the aroma of kerosene from those JT8-D's & the smell of avgas & oil from the DC-6's & 3's nearby will alwys stay with me!

      They still do it in Bermuda, but with a nasty "Sir, no pictures!!" I pretended not to hear, as the woman on the tarmac had no way to get to me on the crowded stairs. She kept yelling at me. Seriously, we increasingly live in the age of the absurd.

      Totally agree. Got to board a Lufthansa 747-200 in 1988 at Frankfurt via the stairs when I was 19, then again with United in kona Hawaii with a 777-200 in 2006. My kids were young and thought it was pretty cool as well, great Picts on the Tarmac at kona. Boarded various small planes via the stairs but more recently deplaning a British airways A320 in Milan linate then re-boarding an Aer Lingus A320 from linate on the way back home. Kids were older but still thought it was way cool. It seems more personal and less sterile boarding old school. Was also neat boarding via rear steps in linate, something we don't get to do in the states. I also like the glass boarding bridges you see overseas. Again, not something you see here much, not sure why.

    My apologies for the very rough film quality; this is Condor's SOLE B-707-430, D-ABOC, captured on film!

      Hey no problem this is classic stuff. I love the old 707 footage especially when you see hush kits on the engines. Imagine that, a muffler on a jet engine.

      No apology necessary! It is interesting to see this 707 with air compressors on all four of the Rolls Royce engines.

    At the beginning you see the logo of tour operator Scharnow. They later merged with Hummel, Dr. Tigges, Touropa and Airtours to form TUI.

    Alaska airlines still does it on some of their cargo haulers. 1/2 cargo palets 1/2 seats.

    2:05 what is that hump?

    • @Texasstyle67
      @Texasstyle67 Před 5 lety

      Some 707 had that hump to protect the fuselage in an eventual tail strike, watch a 737-800 also has a bumper on the tail

    • @mariovuksanovic5077
      @mariovuksanovic5077 Před 2 lety +1

      the 707 400 had as you call hump...it is known as a ventral fin for stability...the 707 originally had a stability problem.
      Boeing made several modifications.
      They made the tail taller and added ventral fins on some of the earlier types like the 707 400 originally delivered to Lufthansa.
      The modified later versions of the 707 did not have ventral fins because the wings were re designed and wing tips were added.
