Ah yes…this is when he got censored and was shown from the waist down. No autotune back then, and singing with a boom mic over his head. I’ve been going down the Elvis rabbit hole hole for a few weeks now and I just can’t get enough, especially his early years. The Vegas years I’m not a big fan of, probably because his spiral downward is clearly visible. That, and how people have made a caricature of him with Vegas in mind.

Love Elvis Presley! Used to watch him on the Ed Sullivan show. I was seven, and had a mad crush on him!

I love watching these live versions of Elvis back in the early days. This was performed on the "Ed Sullivan" show in 1957. Many times you will see the backup quartet singers called "The Jordanaires" with him. They performed with Elvis in live appearances, on his recordings & in his films in the 50's-70's. Elvis' movements were considered scandalous to show on TV. Some shows only filmed him from the waist up.

Thinks was so different that time, Things were so tense that it was banned in e.g. Boston, the young people who listened to him were called "juvenile delinquents" , he brought such strong emotions to people, that many wanted to fight him because of his popularity. Tommee Profitt is pretty brilliant at arranging these covers and finding the perfect singers for them. Are you familiar with some of his other work? He did another Linkin Park cover with a singer called Fleurie - it's actually a remix of that cover that has over a billion views on CZcams and billions of streams everywhere, but there's another cover they did together of Wake Me Up by Avicii that's a bit more along the lines of this one that it's hard to make it through without crying. He's also got a Christmas concert that's the most insanely epic thing to ever be uploaded to the internet.

I'm from Randy's hometown of Marshville, North Carolina. Grew up just up the road from his family home. Back in the day my mom and her sister use to babysit Randy and his brothers and sisters when his parents would go out on Friday nights. Randy was a wild one growing up several run-ins with the law here. He went to the same high school I did but he dropped out in the 10th grade. The town of Marshville has the Randy Travis Music Festival each Fall. His real last name is Traywick. His brother Ricky is a pretty good singer also. He sung at my church a few times.
