    All I needed was the firewall hole. Why wouldn't you connect to the 12v under the hood instead of at the power module? You could make an independent circuit with a fuse at the battery. Seems like you took the long road. And how you getting to the fuse in the console if it blows, plus an unnecessary extra under the hood? One at the power connection is enough. Easy removal later. Bonus; your key never gets disconnected.

    If anyone is having trouble getting the airbag off, on my car, you needed to press in on both sides for the 3rd pin on the bottom to release. When you buy the module, you're given the tool shown in the video, but you'll probably need another similar to it to get the airbag out. Just did the install and it was easy. Haven't done a drive yet to test, but I'm expecting good things.

    This hack only works if you can cancel the nag by adjusting the set speed. This only works in the US, Canada, Sourh Korea and Thailand. If you do not live in one of these countries, money spent on this device is just wasted. I don't know if Tesla Mods PJ knows about this, but I think they should at least mention it in the video to avoid disappointment.

    The question I need answered: If installing on the speed control side of the steering wheel, does it alter the speed of the autopilot setting? If installed on the volume side of the steering wheel, will it change the volume of the music being played? I’m both cases, it seems it would. I’m not a fan of music changing volume nor am I fan of my speed constantly shifting.

    • @teslamods
      @teslamods Před 3 měsíci

      it doesn't affect volume or speed because it's in microseconds. e.g. If the speed is set at 75 mph, the goes up to 76 and then 75 so superquick that it doesn't even register on the monitor and it just says 75.

    Tesla will find a workaround for your module, because people will misuse it and be stupid just like the steering wheel weight and because NHTSA will have to get involved with your module at some point. You are not helping on the long-run, because of "hacks" like yours, there will be delays at some point with software updates, because Tesla will be forced to address your module as high priority.

    • @teslamods

    • @stephenpatterson8056
      @stephenpatterson8056 Před 3 měsíci

      I don't think you fully understand what all of this is about... Tesla autopilot is perfectly safe and a great way to be more comfortable and relaxed during long highway trips, so long as you're paying attention. What the "safety" update did honestly IMO makes autopilot LESS safe. It's so quick to boot you out of autopilot that it sometimes result in inadvertent juking within the lane. Like he said, a bunch of idiots abusing it made it so that Tesla was forced to downgrade it into a more stressful, arguably less safe feature

      The autopilot feature, priced at $12,000, is expected to deliver on its intended functionality and fulfill Tesla's commitments made seven years ago. Requiring frequent steering wheel contact, even when hands are already on it, undermines safety. It appears Tesla is enforcing this measure primarily for legal protection.

    • @JosephHowes2003
      @JosephHowes2003 Před 3 měsíci

      The nag doesn't make it safer for normal drivers that aren't doing anything crazy in the first place. It just distracts your attention to the screen so it's more dangerous. It just forces you to confirm that you're paying attention but the interior camera should be good enough for that. I wouldn't mess with the hardware though either.

    Two questions if you want to install several accessories at that switched low V location: 1. How many amps would that support? 2. Is there a multi port block - like an add on small fuse box - that would work as the connection points for the accessories? In other words the tap into the switched Tesla wire and the ground wire would connect to the distributions block or add on fuse block. Finally, I see where some of the more recent instrument panel displays are gettin power/ground direct from the low V battery. Since that doesn’t seem to be a good idea, could they also be connected to 2. above? Very good videos, Pete

  • @steve9127

    In your video at around 2:50 you show that you pre-selected the wire and state it should have 15v. Your ammeter shows about 1.4A, but to find the one with 15.5v and the brake energizes is difficult. You don't really show that. An alternative is to use the larger red wire (14-16 ga) shown at 2:50 in the video. Its not quite as elegant as off when you exit, even with Sentry on, but it does turn off when the car goes to sleep, within 5 mins. Open the car door it turns on. Therefore for someone who struggles finding which small red wire is the one, they can use the larger one (not the big in the back) and it will shut down the accessory within 5 mins of exiting the car when the car goes to sleep. And powers up upon re-entry, no brake press needed.
