ADDITIONAL INFO: A few details got edited out of the review as I was trying to trim it down for time, so here are some additional notes: 1. Low light image quality is improved if you drop the video resolution down to 5.7 K /30, however, if I wanted 5.7 K videos I would have bought the X3 and saved some money. They market this as an 8K camera, so it should perform properly at 8K. 2. One of my be...

Viofo sent me this early unit to test and review, but they had zero input in the contents of this review. I did not receive any compensation for the review other than getting the test unit. Vantrue Element 1 (E1) Dash Cam Review

I was interested in testing out the Vantrue Element 1 (also known as the E1) dash camera because it appeared to be a full-featured, 2K dash camera that was small enough to possibly compete with the Garmin Mini 2. It's a fantastic, high quality dash camera with one critical flaw: parking mode. Unfortunately, Vantrue's parking mode implementation simply doesn't work. I'm hoping some of the issues...

In single lens mode, DURING recording, can we switch back and forth between lenses. Please answer ! Thanks in advance
I believe so. I don’t use this in single lens mode since I have better cameras for that, but there is a front-rear toggle button on the screen which I assume you can still press while it’s recording.
I feel like I just had a brain massage. No fluff, no hype, no waste of time, right to the point. Thank you!! I think I will be purchasing one of these very soon.
Interesting and objective. One key setting which i have only seen tested in two reviews is the sharpness setting. I know that standard advice for sharpness settings is to use low and maybe add sharpness in editing but with this camera and with all the AI stuff going on, low sharpness seems to throw away the 8k advantage as it loses details as well as sharpness. And details cannot be recovered once lost. Do you have any views on this?
Yeah, I'm using the medium sharpness setting and then bumping it up in Final Cut Pro as a final step. It's definitely a little soft even in the medium setting.
THANKS ALOT UNCLE VERY CLEAR REVIEW
Is that skylight block able? I don’t like to not be able to get out of the sun.
Yes.
Awesome!
Thank you for a hype-free review. I bought an X4 and I found your video most informative.
Awesome video! I just applied for my GMRS license today. I’m just curious, does that radio have voice prompts? In other words, does it talk at all? I’m visually impaired, and I’m trying to find an accessible GMRS radio. Thanks very much.
Yes, there is a lady with a thick Chinese accent who announces the channels and menu options. However, I think on the newer units they changed the voice to someone else.
@@BrianGreenstone awesome! Does this whole true for all ocean radios? I just received my GMRS license. That was pretty fast. Anyhow, thank you for any assistance. I really do appreciate it, and I’m very much looking forward to talking on GMRS frequencies.

I totally enjoyed this technical video. I have never owned a 360 camera. I really wanted to like this, but with the resolution of the 360 video being only 2.5K I am not sure about this. Maybe when we can get a native 4K 360 resolution I will think about it.
This is probably as good as it gets because to get a cropped 4K movie out of a 360 image you’d need to record at close to 16K which is not practical. The file sizes would be astronomical, and no iPhone or computer would be able to handle it. Recording at 8K is about as high as makes practical sense.
@@BrianGreenstone Interesting, thanks for the explanation.
1440p is 2K.
Correct
Your review is very critical unlike other reviews. Love it. The video recording is set to 1 minute duration and we can’t change that
I own this camera. I think your video is point on. Not biased, not hateful. Exactly the type of review beneficial to potential buyers. Even as an owner I learnt a few new things.
thanks!
Is it currently the best on the market? or do you recommend another 360? great video, I would like you to talk about the accessories 👏
It is arguably the best of the two lens cameras, but obviously it will not compare to one of the pro multi lens cameras that cost many thousands of dollars.
Nice review, not many speak about the AI stitching! Which audio setting do you find works best?
I just leave it on normal. The other settings like the one that isolates your voice do work, but it obviously mangles the audio a bit. I guess it depends on what you’re really doing with the recordings.

Most of people think that loosening tight muscles would eliminate their pain, but you SHOULD know, that lumbar compression is happening, yes because of long periods of sitting, but ignore that the deep paravertebral muscles (extenssores) and abdominal muscles and abdominal muscles that insure the stability of your lumbar spine getting weak, which causes the compression, and sciatic problems. So everyone has to moove, to workout a bit their spinal muscles, and the to stretch. Don't loose you money and don't hope that thos gadgets gonna do miracles for you, at least its gonna be for a while, just moove, just be gentle with your spine, with your body!
Very informative. Thank you.
@BrianGreenstone i really like your review. One question - i didn't see any mention of audible collision avoidance warnings. Does the mini 2 have such a feature? If not, one is a dash cam with that feature that you would recommend?
I honestly don’t remember. Most dash cameras have that built-in, but I’ve never bothered to turn it on or test it in any of them because my car is all have that stuff already.
Records "Incidents" 15 seconds before you push a button and after. Non continuous recording. "Incident Detection" hardly ever works. A waste of $120. At your recommendation.
You press the button and it isn't recording at all or just not recording the 10 seconds prior to the button press? I hardly ever use it since nothing interesting ever happens to me, but in the few times I have it has always worked correctly. I don't think I've done it since the latest firmware update, so maybe they broke something. I'll have to test it and see.
Mine records continuously. Very good camera. My only problem is recently I can't seem to connect it to my computer (which I find easier for downloading files).

I'm wondering how to parking cable works. I will only siphon power from the car's battery when there's motion/incident while parking? I see online they now sell "Constant Power Cable" wit 10m-24h setting. Does that work the same way?
This video aged like a fine wine. I’m sure you are intrigued to see after 12+ years, its a lot worse. Hoovies Garage just got one and advised everyone NOT to buy one. And the company currently that makes cars similar, is going bankrupt also. Just let the brand die! Its a lost cause! I come back to this video once or twice a year and watch the whole thing! I love it!
hah, yeah, I've been following the Fisker story and the Reddit forum and it's not looking good. It's amazing to me that anyone would shell out that kind of $ on Fisker again knowing what happened the first time. I mean at least wait 2 years to see what happens before buying a car from them.

Reliability issues caused me to choose the Toyota Grand Highlander instead of this, had a 1990's GCL, it broke down literally every other day, and I see JEEP still can't even make a lid that closes properly. It's not that I didn't want to buy one, it's the fact that JEEP won't make a reliable vehicle.
Yeah, my '97 was the same way and I vowed to never buy an American car again after that. However, when Daimler bought Jeep I figured I'd give them another chance since the '14's were basically built on the Mercedes platform. It's been great ever since! Zero issues with my '14 and zero issues with this 4xe after 27K miles.
@@BrianGreenstone ok, that's something I didn't know, I always thought newer JEEP's were Fiat's for some reason. I got told to stay away from anything Fiat/Jeep related, is Fiat still making Jeep engines or no?
@@Dubsteppahthey are, they bought it from daimler about a decade ago.
@@michaels7984 ahh, Fiat, known for their reliability and good craftsmanship 🤣
I don't buy excuses from Aston or Bentley or any other luxury SUV for not providing a full size spare. 22 inch full spare on my Range Rover SV Autobiography Dynamic is a MAJOR peace of mind. I was in the market for a 4 wheel drive & not having a FULL SIZE spare was a priority. That reason sold me on my current Range Rover SV cuz, again, full size spare is a must if you off road or tow or camp & I do all those. I don't want to change/cancel my road trip/weekend/camping/RV plans cuz I'm stuck with a reduced size wheel which has limitations.
Most SUVs are getting away from the full sized spare because of weight and space. Even my new Grand Cherokee comes with a small spare.
@@BrianGreenstone that's just unfortunate. People like me who want a luxury suv also for light off roading, towing, camping are stuck with reduced size spare. But I understand your point. It's probably a cost saving thing, plus feedback from most customers helped them make that decision. Plus I agree with your points about this car being very low tech. That was one of the reasons I sold my Maserati granturismo. Yes there was leather everywhere but there was more Tech in a Chrysler 300. Gets annoying after a while.
Rich asshole
I wanted to have two dashcam mini 2's on my windshield. One facing forward, the other facing to the rear. You can daisy chain them. But is there a single product on the market that can allow me to rear face it? Higher up on the front windshield is the only place I can mount cams on a soft top cabriolet and it has a prime view of behind the vehicle
Hey Brian, just wondering, will you be able to get your hands on the new DB12 for a review? I would love to hear your opinion on that!
They keep wanting me to come test drive one, but I haven’t had time. I would really need a week in it anyway to get a proper feel to do a review.
Do i have to format the memory when it reaches the maximum record time ? I like a camara with automatic overwriting
It overwrites when full. But I'm thinking about downgrading my 64gb card for an 8gb, otherwise, (especially if you have parking mode) you'd have to sift through potentially thousands of videos if you were looking for a particular moment in time. But then others say that the bigger the card, the longer the card will last, because it has to re-write less often. Who knows?!
i have tested this idea (before i saw this), and it works. but i used an iron core and 300Hz, small effect, but it sure is there.
There's no way this worked at 300Hz. It would need around 1-3 GHz to come even close to working, and at that frequency the entire thing would melt instantly.
@@BrianGreenstone that’s what I thought too. But we are forgetting about Brian is the refractive index of the vacuum space between the electron valence shells and the nuclei of atoms in the core material. Because of the phase delay for field propagation through the core material, it is possible to generate a Lorentz transformation via the angular electric vector and magnetic field tensor components of the radiated H-field.
Hi Brian. Even if you're theoretically able to switch the polarity of both magnets at a high frequency, would that not melt the magnets? Because that is basically how heating with 'electromagnetic induction' works; when a rapidly alternating magnetic field causes an object to heat up. Or am I missing something?
@@justbraks Yes, and I say that in the video. It's a giant induction coil at a certain point and the whole thing would melt long before it gets to 1ghz.
How do i get to settings
while you dislike the beep, I cannot stand the bright running lights. They are extremely distracting to the driver, and if you install on the right side of the rear view mirror (most of which are very large and thick in cars today), it is distracting to the passenger riding shotgun. By the way, I figured out how to break the problem with trying to connect iPhone to the camera that you comment on in the video. If it is failing, go into your wifi settings, look for the camera network, delete it, then try to connect (Live View) again. It will always connect right away. I don't know why they have this problem, but I suspect their software is generating a new password series each time, and if it becomes out of sync with the iPhone , then it fails to connect. Deleting the network gives it a chance to start fresh. That's my guess...
I agree about the lights. I wish they were dim LEDs because they are brighter than they should be. The beep, however, was fixed years ago with a firmware update.
If you have an ICE device which uses WiFi to connect to your phone, connecting the Garmin via WiFi is challenging. I don't mind, I usually connect it to my computer when I want to download a file.
Thanks for a great review I appreciate it as I am considering upgrading my 2016 Overland for a 2024 4xe. I just wish the combined mileage was a little better in hybrid mode . Thank you!!
Thanks! Yeah, it's still an inefficient, heavy , SUV no matter how you cut it, but it's still way, way more fuel "efficient" than the old V8 Grand Cherokees. Plus, you get more power along with it.
Jeep suck !!!
My first one sure did, but the last two have been amazing.
Do you even have a vehicle?
Very nice review. I am currently in the market for an suv, & I am considering the Jeep 4xe. I am curious to know, if you drive on a long trip in the Hybrid mode a which would be gas & electric, will the battery maintain a charge?
Yes, I've taken many cross-country road trips in my 4xe and it's great! The system always tries to keep the battery at 15% charge no matter what you do, so it's never completely drained. You always have the same horsepower and torque at all times.
can you clarify your mpg on road trips. It seems like you said you get 21mpg when the battery is depleted, but what do you get on the highway in hybrid mode and how far can you go in hybrid mode?
It’s very dependent on speed. On cross country road trips at 80mph I get maybe 22mpg. At 55-65mph I’ll get maybe 24mpg. Also depends on wind direction which can be gusty on I10.
So it doesn't get 56 miles to gallon
@@chadspengler4513 not at highway speeds. I mean if you’re driving in the city below 45mph and being light on the accelerator you can get 80mpg, but realistically in the city I get 37mpg.

The digital rearview mirror is highly important in vehicles. There are instances where items in the trunk obstruct the traditional rearview mirror, making it difficult to see behind
