Hi. I think about bying this map. I have a few questions about this game. When u reworked the rules and playtestet them. Will they be officially published at HBG? How long does this game take to play because i want to have a game which is a bit faster than the GW games (i own them all).By the way really good video i will watch all of them when im finished with operation Drago :-).
Happy to answer your questions! We are working with HBG to offer an update to the original rules, so far that is still on work. In person this game can be easily played in an afternoon. Glad you liked the video, CaptG does a great job! Stay tuned for our rematch later this month!
Still wondering about whether to get this game or not. Looks fun!
I got it initially because I had already built up all the pieces I needed to play GW36/39 and was looking for other games - different games, not other versions of the same thing- that I could play using those pieces. I ended up getting Barbarossa, Operation Iceburg (Okinawa) and Invasion Italy, one at a time. All it took was getting the map & downloading the rules. Each has specialty units, unique rules and their own flavors. All three were fun and I’m glad I got them- they were exactly what I was looking for.
@@CaptainG9318 I have a bunch of different Axis and Allies games, so I could probably cobble together enough for other games. Worth a look! Thanks again!
@IamHakone-di8im Good luck and enjoy!
Looking forward to the new alliances and unique rules, that I am not used to playing!
There are a lot of new capabilities and attack options available to players in Global War 1985: from Surgical Strike air missions to Theater Nuclear Missile attacks; Air Cavalry Assaults to Counter Value ICBM attacks. I love ‘em all.
Cant wait to play this with my roommates. Going to be listening to the warno soundtrack in the background.
Excited to see how Defcon rules impact gameplay - they look incredible!
The escalation toward war thru DEFCON is a great and important mechanic indeed. How aggressive does the Warsaw Pact want to be early in the game. Hostile actions can trigger reaction by China and the West to increase their defense readiness posture, including their Defense Condition. Their DEFCON level allows for expanded deployments of units and more aggressive response options.
Wow, 200 I am looking forward to watching your videos 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, appreciate the support. Good luck in the Giveaway!
Hi. I really like your videos. Especially about GW 1985. Can you tell me the name of the colour for your russian units. I really like it. I would like to paint my Sovjets the same way. Thx for your content.
Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it. So I painted my WW2 Soviets this shade of green for GW36/39 based on what I saw at the time on a few others in the Community. I had the spray paint available and started painting my GW85 Soviets with the same color last year. But since last fall, I havent been able to find it. I had used Krylon Color Max Satin Avacado but no one carries it. I just tried Laurel Green, which is close but noticibly different with my pieces side by side. I’d also offer using dark blue for NATO and red for China blends in too well with the map. You probably noticed in the videos. Good luck with your color selections & the giveaway.
@@CaptainG9318 Thx. Im so excited for the game. I pre ordered the map im so excited to see it 🙂
Its got to be the overall aesthetic of the game this game is not only a fun strategy game but also a true work of art when it's all set up.
True indeed. It is a great looking map, a unique Cold War map. There is little better than F-14s sitting on a supercarrier in the Indian Ocean, or Warsaw Pact tanks massed along the border in Central Europe.
The 80's vibes I'm most looking forward to!
Me too. There is a ton of 80s flavor in this game. Great excuse to breakout the cassette collection while playing the game.
Looking forward to getting that awesome map with the new units.
It is a great looking map.
I guess the underwater listening devices would be a great thing to see how that effects the game.
The SOSUS zones do pose threats for enemy sub movements. But the bold may choose to move forward despite the risk…
Definitely more CZcams wars!
Yes! Cant wait to see the Community playing this great game.
got this vid in my recomended idk what this is abt but props to you man
Thanks.
Im most looking forward to seeing how this game plays out at high player counts
With play options in Scenarios 1,2 &3, the game can be played with as little as 2 and as many as 7 players.
Great to see all the comments and excitement for the game. Please don't enter me in the contest.
Excited for another great installment in the Global War series and to watch some the strategies develop in all the CZcams Wars that are sure to follow!
You and me both. The random events will make each game different and the many scenarios will give ample opportunity for the community to try new and exciting strategies.
@@CaptainG9318 That is a great point. I was fortunate enough to pick up the GW 1914 game a few months back and the random events are my favorite new addition to the game as well as my play groups’s favorite new mechanic. Always have to keep on your toes and plan for the unexpected!
Congratulations on 200+! Looking forward to seeing and playing this game with you guys in Indy.
Thanks. Really looking forward to that game as well. Should be a great weekend.
love this!
Me too!
Excited to see the A6 Intruders and F14s.
Love the 80s Naval aviation in this game.
I've followed Admiral Seabass serie on gw 85 and it's truly a new level of hbg's games. Exited to see more youtube wars and how the smaller conflicts impact the game. Congrats on 200!
100%. The different smaller conflicts can pop up anywhere with the random events, grow out of control, and escalate into all out war. Quite a lot of fun.
Excited to get this game, and play it.
Its a really fun game, enjoy.
I am very excited for the release of 1985. Looking forward to the Warsaw/Soviet combination vs. NATO/USA. Have my pre-order already done!
Awesome! Dont forget China. One of my favorite parts of the game is how it works much like G40 in that players have many options in what scenario they want to play and where in the world they want to fight.
@@CaptainG9318 I am looking forward to the China and Global aspects. The Iran/Iraq war and other parts I’ve seen in the CZcams wars interest me a lot. All of it combined. From all I’ve seen I think it’s going to be great!
Fantastic. 7 new subs in 3 hours.!!!
Thank your extended family for me! LOL.
I want to watch some CZcams wars on this game
There have already been a few public ones by the playtest group. Scenario 1: Operations First Blood & Killing Fields. Scenario 2: Operations Drago & Patriot Games. Scenario 3: Operation Mars (solo game).
Like you, I too am looking forward to watching what the community does with this great game.
I'm very happy for others to try this game, you guys will love it. Was happy to help playtest this game for over 2 years.
Thanks for recommending me to Admiral Seabass. Looking forward to fighting First Blood- Part Two!
Awesome bro lets go
Thanks, good luck in the drawing.
Exceited for: Global. Thermonuclear. War.
The reference sheets and the models are what i am most looking forward to seeing.
The are well designed and thought out. So glad to see the game finally coming out. Enjoy.
Excited to see the dynamics of the random events!
The random events add a lot of the 80s era flavor to the game and help make each game different from the last.
I would love to see the ilwa battleships in action the most! Love your channel! Can't wait for a playthrough
Did I say ilwa I meant iowa.... sorry
Thanks for watching and the support. The Battleships & Battle Cruisers expansion is a lot of fun. I am perhaps biased, but the naval expansions are my favorite.
@@CaptainG9318 not at all. I'm with you, I love naval anything!
Where are the references sheets
Everything is getting rolled out. The wait is nearly over. Enjoy the game and good luck in the giveaway.
I'm excited to see the game play to see how the game mechanics work with advanced weapons systems.
It is really well thought out and playtested. Strategic and tactical balance & tradeoffs make for some fun dilemnas for players. Enjoy.
Excited to see your tactics in this game in future CZcams wars!
Thanks my friend. Its a great game and it will be fun to see what the community does with it once its released.
This is going to be an epic game. Next evolution in A & A game. Cannot wait.
As someone who loves 80s stuff, I totally agree. Its a great game- enjoy.
@CaptainG9318 growing up in the 80s always itching for a Matthew broadrick "war games" style table top game. This is going to be the one.
Excited to watch some CZcams wars on this game
Me too! Cant wait to watch the strategies the community comes up with play out. Will be fun.
I am excited to see NATO in action.
I really enjoyed playing NATO, there is a lot going on in Europe for sure.
Excited for exploring the escalation mechanic, seeing how the incentives for different nations/factions can change over the course of the game. Interested to see if staying non-nuclear is the best decision, as happened in some CZcams wars.
Great insights into the game already. So glad it is finally being released. Enjoy!
We need three you say. On it. Getting wife and her sisters to subscribe!! 85?! Other fantastic great map
Thanks, LOL. The team did a really great job with the map. One of my favorite for sure.
Contest ends when there are 200 subscribers (or July 14th, which ever is latest). To enter, just leave a comment on what you are most looking forward to with the upcoming release of Global War 1985.
Well, would be nice to read what game your are playing...
Guess you caught this one out of sequence. HBG’s Barbarossa is the game. I have a playlist on my channel which recaps all the turns for both sides. This was a pivitol battle, so we decided to share it as well- otherwise we kept all the dice rolling between us. Thanks for commenting, hope you enjoy the series- it is a fun game.
Another great video. I get the impression you're using the stats from the reference charts, rather than the rules.
Yes, with minor changes. We found a lot of rough edges from the original that needed to be smoothed out. We are working on a revised rule set to (hopefully) clean all that out and make the game less confusing and more enjoyable. It really was a fun game.
@@CaptainG9318 I would really like to see your finished rules.
Exciting to the end!! Great great game!! One of the most fun I’ve had in some time!
Me too. It was a blast.
Thank you for the great recap! I am so glad that these rule improvements have worked so well! The objective is to improve the fun and balance of this great game! Thank you Doug from HBG for the opportunity here. And thank you CaptG for being a great co-developer and the voice of this project while I have been overseas. Honorably, Flak88
I gotta say, I like your videos. I hope your game reports can answer some of my questions.
I like your simplified supply and truck/engineer rules. Your house rule about dealing with Italian land units should Messina fall also makes sense.
Thanks. Messina was the historical event triggering the removal of Mussolini, but if the Allies didn’t want to release the ‘frozen’ German units & expedited reinforcements they could simply leave Messina until later in the game. (Like I did in our game.) In our second game we set multiple triggers for Italian surrender, which seemed to work.
Awesome game. Will you play it out to the max turns to see what happens?
Thanks. No, we finished just in time as Flak88 has some travel schedule to start very soon. We plan to reset and play another one in late July/early August - flipping sides and trying the Advanced unit set-ups.
Fantastic game. Adds a lot of depth. Looking forward to the next one
Yes, we really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching & commenting.
Great game!
We thought so too. Thanks for watching & commenting. We plan on another one at the end of the month.
Greetings. I'd like to play this game soon (I now own the game map), but there are too many discrepancies between the rules and reference sheets (downloaded from Boardgamegeek.) The rules are noted as being version 3.0, the reference charts lack a version number. So far, I’ve found these problems: The rules say fighters and tac bombers move 8, but the reference sheets say they move 10. The rules say most naval vessels move 3, but the charts say they move 4 (except for subs.) The rules say all nations’ armor attacks and defends at 6. However, the reference charts say Italian armor attacks and defends at 5, while German armor attacks and defends at 7. The rules say Allied airborne units attack at 3 or 4, the charts say they attack at 2 or 3. How are people playing this game? What works best?
Great callouts. See my longer reply in turn 2 comments.

Yes. We found the same issues. That’s why we worked thru a modified version of the rules we felt needed correction - including rules to set-up and set-up to reinforcement card issues. I’d still recommend working off the base game -filling in the gaps you find. We’ve made notes on our recommended adjustments and a few of us plan to circle back to playtest them again. Would welcome any fresh insight & input. The goal would be a V4.0 that smothed out the rough edges and that could be shared with the Community.
@@CaptainG9318 I will keep this in mind. I'm working on revised rules and charts myself.
