I've never seen a FLEA move like this!
I filmed and studied larval locomotion of the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis), as well as some slow-motion (6k-20k fps) jumps of the adults too! Plus, there's some cool (gross?) footage I managed to capture of cat flea larvae hatching from eggs in here too.

This beetle hunts with a sticky harpoon!
zhlédnutí 99KPřed 5 měsíci
I finally found and filmed a Stenus beetle! These rove beetles are famous for hunting springtails by using a projectile mouthpart (a modified labium) with sticky pads at the end. I collected the individual in this video in Crossnore, NC in August of 2023. Long time Ant Lab collaborator Dr. Matt Bertone helped me find it and he took the still images you see of it in this video! follow him on X/T...

The Weirdest Insect I've Ever Filmed! BAT FLY
zhlédnutí 760KPřed 9 měsíci
Wow, bat flies are bizarre creatures! I went out to find one of these extraordinary ectoparasitic insects with my museum colleague, Lisa Gatens (naturalsciences.org/staff/lisa-gatens), as she was trapping and banding bats in the North Carolina's Coastal Plain. The bat fly in this video was collected off of a Southeastern myotis (Myotis austroriparius) bat and is likely the bat fly species Basil...

Your (incredible) footage demonstrate the FLEXIBILITY of moth wings! I had NO idea!
Totally AMAZING images! Totally MARVELOUS little creatures! But totally GROSS!
FROM SOFTWARE: that creature of nature and he's forms must be in Elden Ring. 1. Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast 2. Fallingstar Beast 3. Malformed Star 4. Astel, Stars of Darkness 5. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Watching the larvae crawling sure explains why diatomaceous earth works so well to combat fleas
Do you think that the fruit flies that are bred to not fly would eventually evolve into wingless flies
+2 Fire Ant Parts +1 Fire Ant Head

moths can look so cute!!
Man Check out the furniture where your dog sleeps if you don't keep it clean and treated-- looks like a zillion tiny maggots in the seams and folds of the furniture. Frkn gross and so many people have no idea
What about lice? Or better known as head lice?
Also what is the best way to prevent fleas on the property? I live in the country so no amount of products seem to keep them at bay. I wish I lived in the city/suburbs for this very reason. My pets seem to be covered in them all year round. Tried the flea and tick solutions, the vet brand flea/tick, diatomaceous earth rubs on my pets/house. Garlic and no luck. Using dish soap while bathing them seems to do the trick but I want a prevention for them not exactly a treatment, but I’ll take that too!
I'd love to do a backflip with the force of my mouth.
1:34 monstra, is that you????
So cool
Funny looking ant
nope
You're a hero man. You're going where no man has gone before.
Looks like hes mastered the video game double jump
Those hairs in-between the jaws are the trigger hairs he speaks of
Ik they don't have blood but wonder if it feels good for them to stretch out their folded wings, like it does does for us when we've been sitting for a while
That is soooooo cool!!!! Why’d they loose their head? What do they parasitise on the bat? How do they eat!! Tell me alll!!!!!
Do bugs even have ankles? Can this bug sprain it's ankle on landing 😂
Beetles: lick me!!! Ughhh…. Ants: Foe Sho!
2:31 I love this shot of a wood wasp failing to properly take off and just completely flipping on its back.
Only channel that i know were you see heminiptera not being called pest or explaining what you can do to eliminate them and i gotta say i love it. Its nice to see animals of any kind being seen behaviing in a relatively natural way and not get killed for just being themselves for once
Right after my biology exam this pops up in my recommended, I am overjoyed to see these moths since they're the reason I got really good from one of my last exams lol.
I like flies. They're so harmless and friendly.
They are so annoying until you see up close
Glued beetles back to back and waiting for them knock others head.
¡Hemolinfa para el dios de la hemolinf!!! ¡exocraneos para el trono de exocraneooos!!!
It doesn't even look like a beetle it looks like a cockroach
Trap jaw ant
ive been playing too much rain world
5:00 😨
I just gotta appreciate how the rosy maple moth pulls itself up with it’s beautiful wings 🦋
Weeeeeeeee
I recently got bit by a fire ant it burns and has swelled up very quickly it hurts
Fun fact: Bees are more closely related to ants than to wasps.
I actually laid partially on not knowing needless to say freaked out when i felt it clicking on my arm 😂😂😂
I just found one in my bathroom after my shower. I wasn’t sure what he was and wanted to make sure he wasn’t a threat/major pest. I took a little photoshoot of him, googled the pictures, and found the click beetle! Specifically, Aeolus Mellillus. Once I determined he was a nice guy, I went to grab him so I could put him outside near our house lamp (since I read they like light). When I carefully tried to grab him he jumped!! AGHH! Absolutely shocked. Scared the crap out of me. I wasn’t sure of what I just saw. So I tried again… he jumped once more! 😨 Whoa. Okay, I gotta put this guy in a cup. He then proceeded to play dead until I walked outside and tossed him in the grass. I was so impressed by how much I learned about the little guy. I almost decided to overlook it, turn off the lights, and leave the room. I’m glad I took the time to figure him out. Also, I had to find video proof so I knew I wasn’t going crazy. 😂
...
I think Bat Fly's haltiers are orienting it based on the bat's flight, giving it anticipatory data to know either to hold on, let go, or what ever it takes to stay with it's host.
I’ve never felt scared or a fly before haha
😑. Tell us u don’t live in the south without telling us you don’t live in the south lol. Whose idea was it to video a close up of a fire ant bite 😂.
I used to feed doodle bugs for hours when I was a kid. No internet or smartphone so had to find ways to entertain myself lol
i got bite by ant
And you didn't bite it back?
I always wondered what these beetles were called - I called them click beetles when I was a kid, but never checked if that was right. It amuses me that it was!
I found these in my front yard and I called them head-butting beetles
