      are people really killing centipedes for no reason? :( most of them aren't that venomous or anything like that, they're just walking around and it's not their fault they're not "cute"... they're also not really keen to biting and in general are absolutely harmless to humans if you leave them alone, just like bees

    • @cj292
      @cj292 Před rokem +3

      @@xylophone_8888 While I love arthropods and frequently catch and release centipedes in particular from my house, I can't really blame people for not taking the risk of being bitten when in their house. The ones we have here can cause bad pain that can last anywhere from 2 hrs to 2 days (I was bit about a month ago and felt like my toe wanted to explode for 4 hrs). I feel comfortable enough to catch and release but i couldn't ask someone else to try and do the same.

    I'm so excited about your millipede episode! My interest in millipedes is really just getting started. And I love to learn anything I can about them. Every morning at work, I'd find a millipede in the middle of the floor. I'd always pick them up and say it's your day off today and carry them back outside. That happened tons of times! I'm sure they were happy to be back outside. ☺️

    I am 72 and been fascinated by insects my whole life! When I was growing up my father always showed me insects that he found while working in the yard or walking in the woods. When I find a spider or other insect in my house I always gently capture them and release them outside! The only insects I kill are flies and yellow jackets…..I am allergic. But when I do kill them I look for a spider outside who I can give it too. I never went to college but think that maybe I was suppose to be an entomologist! My young grandson was petrified of spiders, etc but now when he comes to my house we search for insects to collect then release when he goes home……maybe he will be the entomologist! 🪲🪰🐜🐞

Scurried over and promptly snatched the spider I thought I was taking to somewhere safer than my vaccum cleaner. I felt so bad for it . But the daddy long leg got dinner delivered .

Every spring, I see seedlings begin to wilt and when you pull them up every root hair has been eaten off. Culprit: tiny almost microscopic centipedes. They especially seem to love the tiny dill plants. Coiled up, they could fit on the head of a pin they are so small. I'd love to send you some.... if they are a new specie, I'd love to name them.
