At 17:13 hours on Christmas Eve, Hicksville Chief 9301 gave a verbal for a working house fire at 31 maple place. A couple of minutes later a 2nd alarm was transmitted. There was also reports of people trapped on the second floor. E935 and TL931 were first due. A signal 12 was transmitted after about an hour. There was no injuries reported

At 9:08pm on Sunday night the Bethpage FD was alerted for a basement fire at 11 Stymus Ave. Upon arrival car 2 had a heavy smoke condition in the house and eventually a working fire was transmitted. 9044 was the first due engine and TL3 was the first due truck. The fire was under control in about a hour and a half.

One of their chiefs got on scene and transmitted a signal 10 with fire out the windows on the first floor with an elderly man trapped in the house. He was removed from the building by members. The fire was knocked down in about a half hour.

At 13:40 hours the East Norwich FD was alerted for a house fire at 63 Fruitledge Rd. The caller reported flames from the roof of a house. Units were quickly on scene and transmitted a working fire. The fire was extremely advance upon arrival and the entire operation was exterior. The fire went to 2 alarms and was brought under control in about 2 and a half hours.

At 17:26 the FDNY was alerted to a report of smoke on the 5th floor of the address 89-19 171 ST. There was then numerous calls from 5 different apartments at the address all reporting smoke. E298 made entry and found fire in an apartment on the 5th floor and BN50 transmitted the 10-75. All hands operated and the fire was placed PWH in about a half hour. E298 & TL127 were first due.

pay attention to those PASS alarms. Letting them go into full alarm is training complacency. When someone goes down, and can't verbalize a mayday, who will know its not joe blow just standing around.
My question is what kind of water supply did they have that could be a factor in what was going on with the fire attack.

It sounds like an electrical fire started in the kitchen. It is difficult to put the fire out when you are dealing with electrical issues. It's all about timing and attack points on the location of the site. If rushing in too fast, then there would be no attack point. They did what they were supposed to do.
