As a British person I would not expect anyone from outside the UK to know about or understand Bonfire Night. Please note that some of it is not pageantry but pretty vicious e.g. what goes on at Lewes, in Sussex on bonfire night is shocking and shameful.

What's most amusing about Hugh Lauries' portrayal of House is that in casting the show writer said we want a good American actor and Hugh sent in a tape from Africa that the producers saw as he acted American and they went thats our guy !! Only finding out he was english when they met him. 😅😅 Whats funnier is that in casting i think one of the producers said we want a scathing polymath and we're not getting a British actor for it, Hugh turned up and played and talked only as an American and the producer said he was the best choice, with the inevitable facepalm realisation to come!

I am not American and I agree there is a lot of ignorance, however, I do find that there are a lot of people these days that are always keen to read racism in any curiosity people might have. Take for instance the Indian girl who thought it was funny to say she is from Canada along with her parents which was a blatant lie. If American’s don’t in fact experience a lot of cultural diversity, what is wrong with being curious about someone’s culture? I am Gen X, so back then we did not see colour, we did not have all these stupid labels for ourselves and others, people were people and everyone’s experiences were different and we were curious about each other. That is just human nature. Derogatory comments or actions towards someone because of their race is not ok, but wanting to know about someone, is not. I get that for some people that is not culturally appropriate, but that is why educating and being understanding and patient with each other is important. Instead, especially younger generations, get so twisted about it and take offence. By the way, I am not referring to all comments, just some of the ones sampled here.

Just shows how much the British people are willing to take a chance. Basically , if this show was a bust , the his career is a bust. But it’s massive. It is absolute nonsense to give the impression that people can't visit without being invited! My mother used to say "no one needs an invitation to pay us a visit". In fact it would be rude to give people the impression that they can only visit with an invitation, it would be regarded as telling someone they aren't really welcome. You would only say it if they became a pest and outstaying their welcome! If someone told me that I could only visit with an invitation I would be offended as I would think it is a back handed way of saying that I would not be welcome. It is not the exception to visit people without warning I don't know where this person is living or what kind of "friends" she has. I've lived all over the UK, some people visit without invitation others don't and it's nothing to do with region or class. No it is not weird to say "I am just popping over to say hello!" It might be rude to turn up at meal times if not invited at some houses but I welcome friends and relatives any time. I am glad if people just turn up as it doesn't mean I am worrying about what to cook or whether I've tidied up enough!

Fir me the actor missing from this is Idris Elba, he is a very fine actor, and was a big star in 'The Wire' as Stringer Bell, and to me was totally convincing as an American.

Andrew Garfield's dad is American, so you can half claim him! Hugh Laurie is very, very British though, like Downton Abbey British. On the other way round, Renee Zellweger did an excellent British accent in Bridget Jones' Diary. Emma Stone is also very good. The worse one I've ever heard (apart from the notorious Dick van Dyke one) is Anthony LaPaglia playing Daphne's brother in Frasier. She has a Manchester accent and he for some weird reason has a cockney accent (but he's terrible at it). Chris Pratt also does a really good Essex accent, watch him doing it on Graham Norton, it's hilarious.
