    As an American I may not know how the public transportation works in London but I am very surprised to hear that no one uses bicycles. Today I am very interested in learning about why nobody cycles in London. If you enjoyed the video feel free to leave a comment, like, or subscribe for more!

    Tyler this is nonsense. There are cyclists everywhere in London. Cars are not practical for commuting parking costs are rediculous if you can even find a parking space . Even Boris Johnson rode a bike to Downing street. Plus the emission charges no average Joe can afford to drive a car in London any more.

      Really boomed since all 630+ sq. miles of Greater London has become a ULEZ and a car unless very new, an EV or over 40 years old and registered as Tax/MOT exempt costs £12 per day (any 24 consecutive hours from entry) to drive it inside the zone. The price of 80's and older cars is beginning to rise. Don't think we'll see many Model T Fords, Austin 7's or Bullnose Morris' on the roads though.

    For those who are wondering, here is what is written in the LAW Books as of 14.Sept.2023.
    What are the laws around cycling on pavements? (Sidewalks)
    Both Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835 and the Highway Code suggest it’s not legal for a cyclist to ride their bike on the pavement.
    Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835 prohibits “wilfully riding” on footpaths, which refers to the path at the side of a carriageway. Since bicycles weren't as widely used in England as they are today, the original law from 1835 doesn’t exactly mention cyclists or bicycles. It also didn't mention pavements because that word is more recent.
    The Highway Code also states: “You must not cycle on a pavement.”(Sidewalk)
    Is it an offence to ride a bike on the pavement?
    The punishment for riding a bike on the pavement is an immediate £30 fixed penalty notice fine.
    This is charged under Schedule 3 and Section 51 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
    Typically speaking, only a very small percentage of cyclists in the UK receive a fine for cycling on the pavement. When they observe a cyclist violating the law, the majority of police officers will inform them verbally that they are infringing the law and should stop using the pavement.

    Come to London and you’ll quickly see that yes, there are plenty of cyclists on the street. The problem is the political agenda that makes them feel superior to drivers leading to an aggressive car hating attitude by an obnoxious minority. There needs to be respect on both sides.

    • @UnknownUser-rb9pd
      @UnknownUser-rb9pd Před 2 měsíci +1

      To be fair (and I'm not a cyclist), they are much more vulnerable than a car driver. You might get a ding in your car if you make a mistake but they may end up dead. And if a cyclist has a few near accidents with stupid or aggressive car drivers then their attitude is going to be quite hostile towards all car drivers even if it is not warranted. And I know there are careless cyclists as well as suicidal courier cyclists as well.

    My 'home city' Peterborough invested a lot of funding into new road systems and coordinated cycle paths as it expanded in the 1970s-1990s. The road systems went round the city whilst the cycle ways were like straight spokes providing short routes for people going to work, shop, play, etc. In the city centre they found you could exclude cars but combine buses, delivery vehicles, bikes and people.
    One thing pointed out in the video that are really disliked/dreaded, even by keen cyclists like myself, are BIG multi-lane roundabouts. They are not designed for cyclists who are travelling much slower than cars and don't have a ton of metal around them for protection.

Typically on a cheap bike, as our much cherished illegal immigrants tend to steal them before they can upgrade themselves to motorbikes. Its a bit like, there are many Trainspotters in London, quite a 'community', because Train spotting is not Normal (sorry Trainspotters).
      When people doing something normal, they are identified as that, People on Buses or the Tube in London are not a community of 'Busists' or 'Tubists', they are just normal people who some time ride on buses or the Tube, when people who some time ride bikes in London are not identified as cyclist or a cycling community, then it is normal.
      In many rural areas and small towns owning and using a bike is normal and does not make you a cyclist.

    Britain is into cycling, it's just that it's more popular in some areas than others - not least because of the weather... Also, London has exceptional public transport alternatives, when compared to many other areas. It is being heavily promoted as an alternative to commuting by car in many other cities, with absolute megabucks being spent on creating new cycleways, at the cost of reduced road space and greater inconvenience for car drivers - and most forms of public transport. Cycling is usually the quickest means of getting around cities. In recent years, a long-distance cycle network has been established throughout the UK, too. While most people accept that petrol and diesel vehicles are damaging to the environment, public transport would need massive expansion and improvement before many people will consider switching mode. London should not be considered representative of the rest of the UK - it just isn't!

Of course bad drivers don't like cyclists - but in my experience bus and taxi drivers and most delivery drivers are considerate and good drivers ..... his history may be like a crates' egg ( good in parts) but at best he is plain wrong, and at worst he is a bottom-feeding liar for claiming that nobody cycles in London - 10s; of 1000s did so and do so every day. Take what he says with a MASSIVE pinch of salt - cycling in London is nowhere near as dangerous in London as he claimed.

      Which is what the video says.....It goes through the history of it and the recent (at time of the video being made) improvements. The title of the video is misleading. Tyler has called it "Why nobody cycles in London" but the original video is "Why is cycling not normal in London". The difference is subtle, but is there. And the video is 6 years old.

    Sorry what a loat of rot, people cycle all over london you can even rent bikes all over. I have crossed Tower Bridge during a London Cycle day, i must admit it freeked me and the taxi man out seeing tiny babys in the frount or being pulled behind was frightning but the worst was on the bridge which had a icecream van on it and reduced traffic, but cars were still crossing. I saw a family of 5 going passed the van dad was toutaly unawair and got his kids to slowly cycle around the van, mum had gone passesd and just gone. One of the kid must have been about 6!!! Dad was ok he was still on the pavment. The taxi driver did not talk or breath watching this, but yeh alot of people cycle in London and some of them REALY should not.

    • @b101uk9
      @b101uk9 Před 2 měsíci

      many cyclists are equally as impatient and ignorant, and in many cases put them selves at risk with their own dumb actions, because the law has always been feckless in protecting cyclists from themselves with feckless filter laws that allowed cyclist to put themselves in danger in city environments - if the filter laws were better constructed, then no one would ever be permitted to filter past any vehicles indicating to turn on the same side the cyclist is attempting to filter, as the very act of filtering has caused the conflict, if the filtering laws were more robust in their construction, it would be abundantly clear that are just some vehicles you must NEVER filter past, thus avoiding putting BOTH in needless conflict at junctions etc.

    A big part of the trouble for cyclists is that through most of the 20th Century the UK had conservative (Tory) governments. The Tories have always been the party of 'big business' meaning industrialists who made money through things like car sales. This is exemplified by the fact that Thatcher privatised the bus networks and her successor (John Major) privatised the rail network.

    This is probably the most painful to watch Tyler reaction yet. Jeez Louise. And fancy not watching a Jay Foreman video all the way to the end... sacrilegious! Although... also convenient, as it was just before Jay's end of video sponsor's advert. Mmmm. I wonder why that was? A coincidence? Don't tell me Tyler has already actually watched the whole video in advance and therefore knows exactly when to stop it (after cuttig to 30 seconds in as well) before it goes off topic... thus rendering his real-time "reaction" a complete fake. Nah, can't be! {cough}

    Used to be rare, cyclists, not now, everywhere in London. On the road, pavement, anywhere they fancy. Traffic lights ? Not applicable to many of them. The Bane of a pedestrian, me, do not drive. Cars are orderly, you know where they are. Cyclists can come at you from anywhere. Don’t like slowing down if they come across anyone crossing the road, cars do. Lights at night ? No way for some. In Earlsfield (London) yesterday, swarms of ‘em. Nothing against them of course 😁

    Never believe anything you see. There was no such advert and this was all just a humorous misconception veiled as an old advert...
    Margaret Thatcher was Primeminister 1975-1990 why does everybody still blame her for anything negative? Either she was the most influential person in recent history or it's time this irreverent bashing stopped for the longest running elected Primeminister in the UK ever.
