      @@faithpearlgenied-a5517 I get the OP though, there are a lot of terrible so called comedians which the bbc has doing everything where she's more likely to crop up on a panel show or on a weird culty comedy. Absolutely amazing in After Life yet very much a secondary character. These shows have plenty of fans but compare her to Bradly Walsh or Michael McIntyre who do all the prime time rubbish yet she's considerably better. Its true though that almost everything is over or underrated, rarely will hype and how good something is match up

    The character of Philomena was created by Charlie Brooker for vox-pop segments on his Screenwipe series, which was a satirical look at the weeks news.
    Diane nailed it and the character blew up as we all know someone like Philomena.
    Charlie Brooker also created "Black Mirror"

    Netflix began showing the Cunk series in the USA in February 2023. It has proven popular, and more of the British series are scheduled for the US this year.

    Well, as he never reads these - I guess I can say (without worrying about offending him) that I only watch him because I like what he watches, not because I like the constant pausing or his commentary, though some of his reactions and how he totally misses the point a lot of the time does have me laughing!

    The interviewees know in advance that the whole thing is a joke, but they are asked to treat it seriously. They don't however know what questions they are going to be hit with. In an interview, Diane Morgan said that they sometimes corpse, and end up laughing so they have to shoot the scene again.

      Ahhh, that's why I don't find it very funny. You can tell the guests know something is up because of their uncomfortable smirking. With Ali G the guests were all oblivious and that made it hilarious.

    Thanks for this. There is no Richard THe Fifth when "Henry 8" is more known. That is 2 jokes in One as no one says "Henry 8" but "Henry The Eighth". She spoke about "Feminininists"..lol..........That Ship WAS a Clipper. Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection IS the foundation upon which modern evolutionary theory is built. The theory was outlined in Darwin's seminal work On the Origin of Species, published in 1859. I think you missed the irony of those Christmas Lights using "a lot of power" highlighting a World worried about future shortages and Climate Change. The very last "1914" World War One clip was showing a REAL football match when Peace broke out for a Day.

    Diane Morgan as Philomena (Fill-uh-meen-uh) always reminds me of Amelia Bullmore as a confused transport minister trying to get her head around the rail network in a classic "Big Train" sketch (probably the sketch that gave the series its name). The guy being asked to imagine being sucked off through a hole is Professor Brian Cox (unfortunately appropriate name), one of the UK's most popular science broadcasters - sort of the UK's equivalent of Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

    Diane Morgan is great. She didn't really stand out on panel shows like WILTY (Would I Lie To You) but her earlier work like "The Wankers" really stands out, as British deadpan humour. I would put here up there with Sacha Baron Cohen.

    I think many people miss the reference of when she has her back to the screen near a cliff then it shows her looking at her phone. It's a reference to a painting called "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" by German artist Caspar David Friedrich. Except for the phone part. They didn't have mobile phones in 1818.

    Watch the full episodes, it puts a lot of these jokes into context. All of the experts are specific for the topics she is discussing, they are aware it is comedy (which is why they are good sports going along with it.) they just don't know what she is going to say. A lot of the interviews she is just completely derailing the interview, it makes some of these jokes so much funnier when you know that, she isn't just talking about random topics. she is derailing the interview with random off topic things. very talented.

    I'm surprised that the United States does not have this kind of humor, because you can find it all over Europe. François Damiens in Belgium, Raphaël Mizrahi in France and quite a few others. Of course their "career" of this sort of thing is relatively short because as they become more and more famous, people learn to recognize them. And then they move on to other kinds of performances.
