I bought this at Treasure Factory, a thrift shop here in Japan. It's a really well done knock-off of a Martin dreadnought. It cost me all of 9,000円 with tax (about $80). The abalone inlay is fake, but the wood seems to be good quality. So impressive and moving! Are you currently living in Japan? If so, I would love to see your performance live, perhaps at a bar or an event. Do you offer online lessons for the kokyu? Your performance is truly fascinating :)
Again and again I come back to this video, this is one of the most pleasant Kokyu sounds I have heard. I believe you are using "non-traditional" vibrato techniques that add to the smoothness of the sound. The traditional kokyu tone is a bit harsh to me, which I always thought was unfortunate since its one of the very few traditional bow instruments in Japan. You should definitely post more kokyu content, your music is beautiful.

How did you learn to play Kokyu?
Mostly self taught. There's virtually no learning resources for this instrument in English, so I had no choice.

@@sakinokamiya1934 Kamiya san, sorry I misunderstood your post. 😅 Still trying to get the hang of the Japanese language. I learned on my own, mostly watching CZcams videos and listening to audio. If you want to take lessons, there may be some teachers here. Are you in Tokyo? If I recall, there is a music school in Ikebukuro near the station that teaches kokyu. You might also try asking at some of the shops around Tokyo as they would have connections with the wagakki schools.

@UCUZkiS6e7z_Jh6mZoqrlQLA Thunderstruck on the Shamisen sounded fantastic especially because the Shamisen is the most powerful weapon. Fun fact, the Kokyu is tuned an Octave above the Shamisen, has the same strings as a Shamisen but it's playing them an Octave higher cause of the shorter scale.
tonewisemusic I think using a Violin bow might help. The Kokyu is tuned one Octave above the Shamisen so it's a Soprano Voice.

No it's not. A D45 would have hexagon inlays on the fretboard plus abalone down the sides and front of the fingerboard extension on the body.
