This may be my favorite video on the web
Who is here after that mouse from rango played the spoons
I grew up in southern WV in the mountains to this same music. It seemed everyone on my mother’s side played an instrument and the ones that didn’t were excellent singers. Our family always had Sunday dinner then this same music after. All the way to dark. I learned to pick the Wildwood Flower when I was 6. I just had to be a part of my families music! The Mainers bring back a rush of my own family that’s gone now. It was truly a blessing to run across these videos!! Praise God for people like them that bring such blessings!!!
Burried my grandmother recently in Shady Grove cemetery near a small town in SC.
SPOONMAN!!!
Without leaving the kitchen: in Samba players play the frighting pan and the plate with a knife I play the tamborim, but I will try the tamborim with spoons to see what result
ive been spooning with my wife
Oh yeah I came to the right place to learn about spoon playin.
Jazz drummer here. This is super cool. A little like rimshots. I've got to work this into an arrangement ... just because ... .
My Dad's whole family were musical ...his favorite instrument was drums but he also loved his spoons and could really make them talk❗️🥄🥄🥄
Excellent teacher Took the mystery out of this amazing skill
Love it!!!
Look y'all this. SOB. Is wrong. Don't put people down. Ok. ? Fuck this bullshit from him to, 💥🖕🏿
Tk u for showing how to play this awesome tune👍
❤
if he'd have said this in 2024 he's have been cancelled. They have been together half a century.
Me gusta mucho la música que hacen yo soy de Uruguay montevideo un día voy a conocerlos allá mi hijo vive en Boston
great teacher.
Two musicians in an orchestra… „What instrument do you play?“ „I play the Timpanys. What do you play?“ „I play the spoons.“
I had the pleasure of taliking with Wade & Julia Mainer on the phone several years ago. I loved the Mainers ❤❤
Ty for the lesson Godspeed. I hope this message finds you in good health. 🥄 🥄
👍👍
Ray Cline was my brother. He is so missed by family and friends. LW Lambert was a wonderful man. He and Ray played music together for many years.
Definitely know about wildcat creek and especially the wildcat flea market. Got my first machete there.
Wade played in his brother’s band. J E Mainer and the mountaineers.
not me ordering new spoons so i can try and play them once
Nest explanation of the process that I've found so far, especially the basics.
Cheeks as red as a bloomin' rose and eyes as the prettiest brown She's the darlin' of my heart, sweetest little girl in town I wish I had a glass of wine and bread and meat for two I'd set it out on a golden plate and I'd give it all to you Shady Grove, My little love, Shady Grove, I say Shady Grove, My little love, I'm bound to go away (Banjo solo) When I was a little boy I wanted a Barlow knife And now I want little Shady Grove to say she'll be my wife A kiss from pretty little Shady Grove is sweet as brandy wine Ain't no girl in this whole world that's prettier than mine Shady Grove, My little love, Shady Grove, I say Shady Grove, My little love, I'm bound to go away (Guitar solo) There's peaches in the summer-time, apples in the fall If I can't have little Shady Grove, I don't want no gal at all I went to see my Shady Grove, she was standing in the door Shoes and stockings in her hands, and her little bare feet on the floor Shady Grove, My little love, Shady Grove, I say Shady Grove, My little love, I'm bound to go away (breakdown) I wish I had me a big ol' horse and grain to feed him on And little Shady Grove to stay at home and feed him while I'm gone I wish I had me a needle and thread, as fine as I can sew I'd sew my pretty gal to my side, and down the road we'd go Shady Grove, My little love, Shady Grove, I say Shady Grove, My little love, I'm bound to go away
❤❤❤
None can compare. Permit me to mix genres a little. It has been said that Jascha Heifetz was God's violinist. Let me say then, Doc Watson is surely just as rightly, God's Guitar picker!!!!
The volume is too low.
I could listen to this guy talk all day. I don't even have any spoons right now
The village idiot has come a LONG way :) Way to go David Holt! :)
How can someone play two instruments at once 😮
4:38 all it took for me to make my own rhythms😂
❤❤❤
2023 and I’m here just learning the spoons for whatever reason. Mans made it so easy to follow along to I actually kinda grasped it even if my rhythm sucks for now lol
Red neck cassinettes
*Updates resume*
my 5yo is very entertained by this - and now my kitchen is loud AF
I noticed a bend in the spoons, slightly Will this help ?
I like these folks.
i taught him everything he knows
On the second spoon the way the finger holds the side of the spoon must be awkward and sore after a while. For a better grip and you don't have to suffer it any longer. If you're play them for a living best you get a small plate welded to the side of the Handel you will notice the difference. 👌🏻☘️
The wooden spoons at the end was sic
Very good instructor, thank you for this video.. you just made a new fan

Thanks🪕🪕🪕
Is this a 2-finger style of banjo picking?
that little slide he hits on way up to the D at the top of the melody is so nice
