  • David Holt interviews Willaim Cook in West Palm Beach Florida. William Cook, known as "Washboard Bill" is "the world's best washboard player" The interview was in 1988 when Cook was 82.

    Washboard Bill - what a happy feller! Look how he was always smiling! He looks a lot younger than 82! What an inspiration!

    METAL SPOONS, WASHBOARD ,TIN LIDS SIMPLE HOUSEHOLD OBJECTS BUT WHAT FANTASTIC RHYTHMS IN THE HANDS OF EXPERTS WHO'VE DEVOTED HOURS OF PRACTICE (47 years!!!!). SO FOOT TAPPY AND ENTERTAINING. (deep south of lil ol England UK)

    OK, David speaks with a California accent and he's got a college degree...Big deal. The work he has done to preserve this music and make these people known to the general public greatly overrides any dorkiness(?) he may have. Not everyone can be from south "jogia" when they do programs of this nature. No one seems to mind Pete Seeger's New Yawk accent when he sings old folk songs. David is obviously digging the hell out of what he is doing and doesn't need to apologize to anyone. You go David.

    Is he the same Washboard Bill who recorded the single "In the Morning / River Boat Dock" on King Records in 1956?

    the interview was in 1988 so anyone thats asking if hes around, i think hes either the worlds oldest man or dead because he was 82 then,
