I'd give anything to sit down with my old friend Ray and play for hours like we used to. I miss you buddy....John Lindley
im 27 and from hampshire in the u.k and iv never heard anything like this in my life but i gotta say thats fucking awesome as hell . first time i ever even heard of bluegrass or anything never even knew what it was called . awesome happy to meet you mr bluegrass ;) powerfull sound lambert and cline thanks guys legends :)
Ray Cline was my brother. He is so missed by family and friends. LW Lambert was a wonderful man. He and Ray played music together for many years.
This is really an outstaning video. Kudos to David Holt for capturing it. L.W. Lambert is about as smooth a picker as they come. The outro with the Lonesome Road Blues is incredible and showcases each players amazing talent.
Fantastic picking...and what a great rhythm player Ray Cline is!!
Really beautiful this presentation.
That's good to see those two guys are enjoying what they dothank you for upload it to youtube.
I am also a boy of 67 summers, I play the banjo with my grandchildren and friends and we formed the Joy Riverbank's Bluegrass Band.
Possibly only in Argentina, joined the duo Twin Leaves singing.
God bless and protect them, where they are.
Big hug from Buenos Aires, Jose Luis.
.
Mr Ray Cline knows what to do with the ole 6 string, very well
Great video.....I love to hear the old timers talk about the music, and banjo music in particular.
L.W. Lambert, a distant cousin, passed away Jan 23, 2014. He will be missed!
It should not be forgotten that GONE, GONE, GONE, is a Lefty Frizzell song !
...some great musicians there with David Holt.
Gone, Gone, Gone a hit for Lefty Frizzell was written by Mel Tillis. Just FYI. :)
That was great
I've noticed he doesn't anchor both fingers to the head only his little finger which is reassuring to see as I can never anchor both just my little. Just pointing this out as Earl Scruggs insisted both must be anchored, pinky plus ring.
You have Saved a treasure !
A-MAZING
This serie is really great ! thanks for posting ;-)
Val
Ray was my cousin and now I play I wish I could have met him
This is cool shit man. =D
Did ray play with The lonesome pine fiddlers?
Not that I’m aware of. Ray was my brother….
@tdfeims Not sure I'd go that far with it.
I much prefer the old time sound over the Scruggs Bluegrass style of picking. The three finger picking style is way too mechanical and shrill sounding to me it has no soul.I know the style doesnt have to sound that way my favarite Scruggs style banjo picker is Jens Kruger he has a wonderful melodic sound.Just my opinion not trying to offend anyone.
That may very well be the case but I ABHOR the Scruggs style of banjo playing its mostly a mumbo jumbo flurry of notes that makes the music annoying to listen to on most levels, extreamly mechanical and normally played way too loud with little or no melodic base compared to the number of notes played.Sorry I'm just not a fan,to each thier own.
