I am so blessed to be able to say I have attended church with them for many years. They are such wonderful people. To hear "I Can't Sit Down" live and in person is amazing : ) May I live to half as full of a life as Bro. Mainer!!!

I saw them at a Legends show in Owensboro Kentucky at a bluegrass festival. They were the hit of the show. At 100 years old, he and his wife were flawless.

My grandpa was born in 1888 he owned a banjo like this man is playing , he made and repaired violins and played the banjo. People don't play this kind of music anymore! My parents called this music foot stomping music. They called it this because you just can't sit still even when you are sitting. It's a shame when musicians like this pass on because too often their music dies as well.... I love this kind of music... RIP Mr. Mainer...

Mr. Mainer would have been 79 or 80 when this was taped. He is now 101 and still plays occasionally. This is one of my favorite clips ever! Thanks!

And I thought ole Stringbean was one heck of a SHOWMAM - not to mention his fabulous old-time banjer style and skill. Wade has the similar banjer style and skill, but one heck of a showmanship style ALL of his OWN. WOW ! The Mainer Brothers really do stand uniquely apart, amongst the best in the genre of 30's roots music and their very unique stringband sound and singing / arrangement style. This clip is a TREASURE. Thank you so much banjofolk ! P.S. - I just LOVE Wade's old-time accent, too !

Wade was my husband’s great-uncle and we were privileged to be with them at several family reunions in North Carolina. He and his wife were wonderful people and enjoyable. They came to Texas 30 or 40 years ago to visit my father-in-law. 🥰🥰😍

This and the other David Holt videos with the Mainers are absolute treasures. Mr. Mainer was one of the first banjo players I heard some fifty years ago.
On this clip he`s playing the Gibson Granada banjo Elderly Instruments was trying to sell for him. Wish I had the $100,000 they were asking....

That is the way I understand melodic banjo playing : Thumb and index can play both, or alternatively. Thumb or index can lead each at its time. :)

I don't know when this was filmed, but it was uploaded in May, 2008, when Wade was 101. He's 104 now, living in Michigan. And both he & Julia are still fine musicians.

I'd say Wade, performing for 8 decades, and singing for President FDR at the White House in 1941,and having a radio show with Woody Guthrie, ought to be inducted into Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame. Everyone, ought to write the Hall Of Fame,a letter, suggesting him. I think it's a political thing, though.
