I don't get any feeling for "the song" in this video. It seems like you have written each part independently and then patched them together. My advice would be to play the whole thing through umpteen times, so that you get a feel for the song as a whole. Each time through change it a little bit to see if something different works better. Help! Is this really how to write a guitar-based rock song? I haven't done this for over 30 years and I'm a little rusty & out of practice. Plus, I've never really done it alone. I've also made it harder for myself, by making it easier (to play) for you! I've decided that I can only use the riffs I've published in my 'Guitar Riffs for Beginners' shorts series. This means that the 'backbone' of the song should be easy for anyone to play. But, can I make a decent sounding song out of such constraints? You decide. This won't be the song's final form. I already have an idea on how to experiment with the chorus to keep it in the same key (A major) as the rest of the song. Watch out for the next episode in this series in the coming weeks. I loved mine when I got it but the honeymoon wore off. It's a nice guitar but doesn't do for me what my Les Paul Classic or 80 Epiphone Genesis do. Probably time to sell. Really hope you are still enjoying yours.

Great video. I am no great Lead player, but I play what I can. I have no interest in being Yngwie Maalmsteen. Always learn and play what you like, it spurs you on to get better at it and you enjoy it more.

My suggestion: don’t listen about how to play lead from a lead player, listen to how a drummer does fills. Scales are baloney. Josh Homme of QOTSA made up his own damn scale. It will sound good as long as you end up at the root note. Very few non-guitarists are impressed by how technically brilliant or how fast someone plays, they don’t care and too many notes begins to sound like noise: the blues greats like Hubert Sumlin, BB King, Albert King and Albert Collins understood this. Obviously Jimi knew this, Jimi played what he felt and couldn’t have cared less for scales. Sing, sing with your hands. Lastly, see all those places your fingers go when you make a chord? All of those places are places you can for sure bend notes at for a lead. Again, listening to other lead guitarists will at best unconsciously undermine your originality and have you (poorly) duplicating them and at worse discourage you.

That fretboard is very dark for laurel. I have a Chinese baritone with laurel, and it's very pale. The Bigsby trem arm fell off y baritone too. I can't remember exactly where I bought it on-line, so I'll just pay two get it fixed locally or just convert it to a Cadillac hardtail, cos I don't really want the Bigsby anyway.

I just got my brother an orange stain 5420T….big Chet atkins vibes, but it also kicks ass playing “Bargain” and “Won’t get fooled again” by The Who….and of course “Ohio” by CSNY. The new FT5E filtertrons have massive bang for the buck. That black jet looks juicy as a George Harrison guitar even though his had dynasonics. One of the best looking black guitars out there, and the wood back adds a warm sexy touch.
