The F.P. Journe Elegante is a pretty nice quartz watch. Casio and Citizen are generally pretty good with quartz, especially the former’s G-shock and Oceanus lines: the G-shock being a super nice beater you can have and it still working remarkably well despite abuse. Bulova’s 262kHz is also impressive. Don’t get me started on hybrid movements like the spring drive, which are also super cool.

CZcams deemed it necessary that I watch and listen to your absolutely fascinating video on fixing this tired, sorry looking, beaten up Breitling watch. On the way I learnt many new words; "bush-repair' is one that comes to mind, and many techniques for repair and restoration. The Valjoux 7750 movement is one that powers a few of the watches that I own, and I can say that someone up there was looking out for me and guided my choices to get to this channel. It was fun. I got a good laugh hearing Trouble response about the capital of Ireland. You put a smile on my face and a tear of gratitude with the kindness you have for your fellow travelers. Peace!

Is it a vintage watch, and is it as expensive as a rolex ?

I realize this is somewhat an old video - but - I now own two Arctura watches. One has the same movement the watch you did has - the 5M42, where the capacitor replacement is pretty straightforward. The other one appears older - it's case is a front loader - and the front is held on with 4 screws into the metal back case, Unfortunately - it uses a 3M22 movement (apparently similar to the 3M21, 3M42A, 3M62A, etc.) The unfortunate part is - I can't find any videos or on-line instructions to swapping that battery out. The complexities include - no instructions. There are plenty on line for a 5M series, none for the 3M22 and variants. The battery in the 3M22 requires a good deal more disassembly of the movement to get to it and replace it - and of course I forgot to take pictures before disassembly. There are two rather complex stamped parts that have to be removed. One is the battery hold-down bridge, which also connects into other parts of the watch. Getting to it does require removing the swing-weight of course. The second one is a metal bridge that appears to be just there to hold down the one connection from the battery. Confusing the issue a bit more - the new battery came with a replacement for that bridge assembly, and a spacer for the battery (which has a complex metal connection welded to one side) - and it IS different from the old one. The battery size is also different and a crescent shaped plastic bit comes with the battery to make it fit the battery mount, but of course no info on how to use it or where to install it. I took a WAG and figured behind the battery, letting the body of the battery touch contacts buried in the battery mounting hole. Long story shorter - it is a frustrating job with no instructions, and when I got done I'd gone a step backwards - the new battery appears heavily discharged (less than 0.5V) and so far the watch is not running. I've been spinning it up a bunch, I may leave it on my toothbrush charger tonight. Just wondering if you might know of any service info on this movement? Google and Bing aren't turning up anything useful. Also - I stand in awe of your tweezer work. I may just have crummy tweezers or closing in on 80 I may not be as steady as I used to be, but mine love to launch tiny screws off into orbit somewhere never to be seen again until I get rid of that particular watch. I found a fix for the euro/Asian watches - AliExpress has a vendor selling 100 tiny screws for very small money. I bought a pack and they've already saved my butt on this watch. they aren't as well finished as the Seiko screws that are now in outer space, but they seem adequate to hold things together. I think I'm going to order another batch shortly. As soon as the watch was reassembled the screws that were in hiding revealed themselves and sheepishly came out of hiding. Tough on them - they went in with the bulk bunch of Chinese screws.
