I loved watching the annihilator on the Razer DVD, and there were some decent robots in this. Poor Vercingetorix never did well even though I like the robot for some reason! Atilla the Drum started actually doing something in the third fight, but it was too late for them really. Of course Razer just demolished everyone and even had Behemoth scared! Totally destroyed everyone it came across which is why this annihilator is one of the best episodes! It was also at the time where Razer could win just about every side competition except for the main UK championship!

Due to a bunch of these American robots being built for the US pilot of Robot Wars (which had different rules and weight values), most of these were terrible, and even Ming 2 was better than 3/4 of them! However, Frenzy is definitely a good robot with a powerful hammer and put up some good fights. Congratulations to Mortis for finally winning a trophy, took 4 wars and a lot of controversy for this, and even in this War of Independence, the producers *still* didn't want them to go through! They wanted Panic Attack to go through in the semi-final, so much that they had the fight redone after Mortis won the first time! Mortis won again so they were forced to let Mortis into the final, which was great for them as it meant they finally won! It deserved to enter retirement with a victory!

Who the hell picked these American robots? Next time, find somebody who has some offensive weapons.

Less crowds, hollow hangar. Bleak acoustics. No dramaturgic atmosphere, a pit with nothing, the houserobots didnt seem part of a narrative.

I really didn't expect Spikasaurus to come out victorious from this Annihilator. After Chaos 2 was knocked out, I expected Dominator 2 to breeze into the victory and that Spikasaurus would fall before the final. As it is, Dominator 2 worked with Spikasaurus all through this annihilator almost as a team, only for Spikasaurus to somehow come out with the victory at the end! It was Dominator's final to lose, and that they did! An unfortunate sudden loss of power to Dominator 2 meant that Spikasaurus, who until then had done actually very little except to maybe Suicidal Tendencies, somehow won the annihilator.

Razer won imo. Tornado couldnt move while it was over the pit so it's immobile 🤷

The sound design is hilarious, weirdly this was the thing that put me off at the time

@mechplus very good work keep it up a bit and speaking of which it would be really nice if you could at least upload the all of the episodes of Robot Wars The Classic Series, Robot Wars Extreme Series 1 & 2, All of the 4 Seasons Of Techno Games and Rescue Robots and hopefully you'll release Robotica the Robot Combat Gameshow that originally aired on TLC (2001-2002)

Looking at this battle once again, I can see where Bigger Brother was at a major disadvantage. It may have been repaired in the nick of time by the other roboteers but still, it was way too bulky, making it an easy target for Razor's beak. Plus, Razor had the speed advantage whereas Bigger Brother's extra armor weight hindered it from making the necessary snap evasive maneuvers to counter the quickness. Though I got it hand it to Ian's clever use of the flipper to shake loose from Razor's grip at one point.

Im happy that razer won seires 5. Even though hypno disc was my favourite robot. I just wonder how much different it would have been had hypno disc faces razer in the grand final. In my opinion razer would have had a nightmare had they faced hypno disc. The razer team even said themselves in the ultimate warrior dvd that hypno disc was the only machine they feared. I can understand why they feared them

For those who come onto this and say that Behemoth was robbed and that Razer was helped unfairly to victory by the House Robots - you're wrong. The House Robots didn't help Razer - they were enforcing RULES, which here actually made sense as opposed to the rules Team Tornado cowardly exploited when facing Razer, but I digress. And Razer's attacks not only equalled Behemoth's, but inflicted DAMAGE, which is the most important of the scoring criteria. Matilda separated Behemoth from Razer because the former was pinning it down indefinitely, which is illegal. You don't immobilise your opponent by pinning it in place. All robots were separated like this when locked together for too long. And it wasn't Matilda who put Razer back on its wheels; Behemoth did that. Dead Metal didn't right Razer either - it did so itself. But he pushed Razer off the flame grille because hazards that aren't the pit are not supposed to trap robots in place. If they inflict damage that _results_ in immobility, fair enough. But the recipient still needs to be separated to see if that's the case. And no, this wasn't something made up to suck up to Razer like hypocrites who baselessly accuse others of being Razer fanboys would say - this was done with EVERY robot. For God's sake, earlier in this series we saw Abaddon (an awkward newcomer) get separated from the flame grille for the exact same reason Razer was when the former was facing Technophobic, a previous Heat finalist. Death Warmed Up was also helped off the flame grille for the same reason, and that was the equally poor follow-up to Piece de Resistance. Are you seriously going to say that _those_ robots were unfairly helped? If not, you've no reason to treat Razer differently. There was no rigging, Razer won rightfully and fairly, end of. Also, why is it the First World Championship's ending is just a repeat of the International League Championship being awarded to Razer? What, couldn't the actual trophy be filmed or something? EDIT: also get the name right, Mech Plus. It's RAZER and not Razor. For God's sake, how do people go so wrong with the spelling when there are FIVE KEYS between the E and O buttons on the keyboard?

Somewhere there's a parallel universe where Behemoth was a world champion and made it to multiple series semi finals. Always punching above it's weight. Fantastic bot. Gave Razer a better fight than even Chaos 2!

I would love to see some of the battlebot robots in a robot wars arena or a mixed arena melee. LOVE tombstone but I am sure he'd end up in the pit... control issues

Oddly, it was not this battle that I found most contentious. Tornado was clearly the more aggressive in this battle. The one I found the worst was Razors demise. I forget who it was against but I think it was a spinner like Hypnodisk, the whole battle started normally, but then Razor took a critical hit that disabled it, rather than the Refbot jumping in and counting Razor out though, the match continued and the opposition robot eviscerated Razor, scattering parts of the robot all over the arena floor until the unit was practically unrecognisable. This was someone's passion, creation and livelihood, and the programme creators simply stood by and watched as someone tore it to pieces. You can see why the owner of Razor gave the programme creators a 2 fingered salute and went to the American version of the programme instead.

ohhhh why did they not drop it in the hole? right cause it was larger than life. Is that even allowed? Useless trap if you can't fit in it. Otherwise razer would have won this one. Merciless beating or not.

I was never a fan of Razer, but then I didn't like Tornado either. If anything, Tornado did more to kill the original Robot Wars TV series than almost any other robot including Razer because it was about that time that the ingenuity that was such a draw pretty much died. Shame really. But that cage thingy that Tornado had here should never have been allowed - I might not have liked Razer but having a cage like that was tantamount to cheating.

I have no problem with the mod. I have a problem with the outcome. Should have been a draw.

Obviously many people were upset, because they hated seeing dirty, unsporting tactics at play along with rules that made no sense. And you lot who call people like me "Razer fanboys" just because we argue in favour of Razer here - we're not. We're not biased for Razer, and this argument would stand regardless of who the perpetrator or recipient is. YOU lot on the other hand hold such bias, only that it's _against_ Razer, and for the dumbest of reasons, like that you don't like it being so dominant when that's what you're SUPPOSED to do in this competition, or that you don't like battles being boringly one-sided when this is a real-life competition and not a professional wrestling promotion. So look to yourselves before calling others fanboys when that's actually you. We're just smart enough to realise that if you look to modify your robot to render a specific opponent's attack methods useless because you don't want to work on defeating it PROPERLY, you don't deserve to win, and Team Tornado didn't deserve this victory/Championship at all. There's nothing genius or innovative about their actions - it was nothing but cowardice. And whoever wants to scoff at me for making an "essay" here, know this - I DON'T CARE HOW LONG MY COMMENT HERE IS. Got that? I only care about getting facts, fairness and logic across, and if you're not going to read through it, get lost. Now, I get that there are separate robotic combat leagues that allow radical modifications like this, and whether any of us like it or not, it depends on what those in charge think the rules should be. But there are a few problems - firstly Robot Wars was about using your initial design against all others without altering your robot drastically for specific opponents, thus showing that there's really no perfect design. Interchangeable weaponry is one thing, but Team Tornado took this WAY too far. And secondly, the rules in this case were terribly inconsistent. Firstly, Tornado's anti-spinner and anti-axe (designed for Hypno-Disc, Dominator 2 and Terrorhurtz respectively) were banned but not the anti-crusher because of the latter having moving weaponry on it. Why? What does it matter whether there's moving weaponry on it or not? If it's designed for the same kind of unfair protection, either all the devices should've been banned or none of them should've been banned. Secondly, what's the point in having the pit if you're allowed to be big enough to not fit in it? Yes, you can still be classed as pitted for getting stuck over it or on the edge (which I'll get back to), but the pit's designed for robots to GO DOWN INSIDE, not to be delicately placed over it. Otherwise you might as well just bring back the grilles from Series 1 or have nothing there at all. And thirdly, Tornado WAS immobilised over the pit, yet it wasn't counted because Razer couldn't detach and drive away. Again, that makes no sense, as it was blatantly obvious that Tornado couldn't have escaped its predicament over the pit whether held there or not, and the pit has always meant INSTANT ELIMINATION. Probophobia didn't have to withdraw when it pitted Snake Bite; Razer shouldn't have had to withdraw when it immobilised Tornado over the pit. But oh no, excuse-makers who say otherwise, if something's allowed by the "rULeS", it's perfectly justified. That's the other problem here, which is that you lot keep harking back to the rules without realising that rules can be flawed, and shouldn't be in place if they are. By that sheep-minded logic it's morally justified to murder gay people and be sexist to women because of Islamic law. And don't come back at me telling me that's a completely different matter - OBVIOUSLY human rights are more important than a robotic combat show! But it's the same PRINCIPLE, in that just because something's a rule, it doesn't automatically mean it should be.

There is no problem with this modification, because knowing the enemy's strengths and avoiding them is also a good way to win. If there is no cage, how should this tornado, which can only ram, win? Hope that the opponent will give up or fall into a pit or be damaged accidentally? At that time, kinetic weapons did not have such powerful destructive power. If it was replaced with Typhoon 2 or Carbide, it would only need to hit the razor from the side to paralyze it.

I kinda wish this included the pre-fight interview with Phillipa, the teams, and Derek Foxwell. Derek explains during that segment that Tornado's modifications are completely within the rules and so they are allowed to use it. Also in the post-fight with Craig, Andrew Marchant (Tornado's captain) confirms the cage is still within the maximum allowed size of heavyweights in Robot Wars, which also happens to be much larger than the pit TL;DR Tornado didn't cheat, it's been 22 years, get over it
