Your video information and installation is very helpful and I am glad you brought up the point of charging the Lithium battery from the car with the current wiring setup is not the efficient way to do so, hence the dc-dc charger you suggested to use. Could you provide more information on the 8AWG wire you used? Where did you order from? Part number? I am going to research locally who may carry something similar. There is an industrial electrical supplier that may or must all sort of options for the wire. Thank you for the details and easy to follow steps. Great job. Kind regards, Otto.

    A great video!!! My converter in my 2015 TAB S Max just died. I contacted the TAB NuCamp company, and they said they are currently putting in the WF-8735-AD in their TAB 320's. It was so helpful to read these comments on the importance of specifying the newer "firmware" in the power center you upgrade to. I want to make sure I get the newer V.19 (or possibly even the V.20??) firmware in the power center I purchase. Now that the latest version of the firmware is available (the V.20), would that be the best one to get? I still have a lead acid battery in my 2015 TAB S Max but would really like to change over to lithium at some point. Would the V.20 firmware then be best? Is the company you ordered your power center from able to determine which firmware version they send out when you place your order?

    What a great video! The converter in my 2015 TAB S Max trailer just stopped working. It is the "WFCO Model WF-8735P". I plan to replace the entire power center as the easiest route. What I am trying to determine is what power center to use as a replacement, as I would like to convert my current lead acid battery to lithium batteries in the near future. In your opinion, what is the current best model power center to replace with (it is now 2024) when planning to convert to lithium batteries in the future? (Would the replacement of choice still allow me to use my lead acid battery until I do convert to lithium. Otherwise, if there is now a clear choice designed specifically for lithium batteries, I could probably switch to lithium now instead of waiting.) Any thoughts would be appreciated so much.

    I just bought a cute 2015 TAB 320S (Max S). My shower drain is in the middle of the shower pan instead of off to the left corner, for some reason. I checked that screw in my shower drain and, sure enough, it was an old rusted wood screw just like yours! Maybe that's what TAB was using at that time?? So, I'll have to find a stainless screw. I don't feel any flex in my plastic shower pan floor, so hopefully it won't need the foam reinforcement repair for now. Thanks for such a great video!!

    I needed some place to store a laptop or full size ipad while traveling. Had my brother-in-law purchase some scrap aluminum that we bent to form a low profile shelf. We bent each side 90 degrees to form an L so we could attach it to the bottom of the table. We added a small strip of aluminum to the back of the shelf for added security. The opening faces the driver's side of the t@b. It is wide enough for a full size macbook pro and a ipad mini. Never have either fell out and we've been on some rough roads. We pull a 2019 t@b 400 bdl

  • @chaosncheckt9356
    @chaosncheckt9356 Před 2 měsíci

    We pull a t@b 400 BDL (2019) and never had an issue with the tow vehicle (Jeep Grand Cherokees) providing power via the 7-pin. There was always power to charge the batteries (ACM and later lithium) which powered our fridge (DC/AC/Propane). Got a new tow - 2020 Ford F150 5.0 and immediately began having power issues. After lots of research and reviewing forum chats, we learned the new Fords only provide enough power through the 7-pin to power the side camper lights. Won't power the Furrion rear camera and it was wired to the rear lights. Everyone said we needed a DC to DC charger. I didn't feel comfortable doing it but my son is one heck of a mechanic/electrician so I purchased everything and one Saturday we tackled the problem. We began at the tow battery running a heavy gauge wire with a fuse, from the battery to the rear bumper. We also attached a heavy duty on/off switch close to the battery. We connected a Harris plug and attached it under the bumper as close to the 7-pin connector as we could. Installed the DC to DC inside the storage container on the front of the t@b. There is a junction box under the front of the t@b that was easily accessible for wiring from the DC to DC and we ran wire from here along the normal 7-pin wire to with another Harris connector to attach to the tow. Works great now - when connecting I hear the DC to DC start up and confirm operation by looking for the green light. Easily handles the charge of our lithium batteries. Now, one other issue with the Ford we discovered on some of our early trips. After driving for several hours (pulling our t@b), we might experience a hard start after a stop, when turning the tow back on. Initially thought it was a battery/alternator issue but testing both showed they were performing perfectly. More research and we learned Fords, under towing, are known to suffer from heat soak. Meaning, the starters get very hot due to their location near the manifolds. The solution is to wrap the starter with a heat shield. Cost about $20 on Amazon, came with two wire flex ties to secure it. Since installed, the hard start issues have gone away.

    We have a t@b 400 and travel around 200 days of the year with it. Have to simple (for us methods) to level our t@b quickly when pulling or backing into a site. First, I use LevelMate Pro. I have it installed in our t@b and connect to it via bluetooth and the app on my Iphone. I can tell very quickly if I'm level East to West; at this point I don't care if I"m level North to South. I then verify what the app is telling me by looking at a small level installed under the front window of the t@b. I have four easily accessible rubber blocks (much like lego blocks) that we can quickly set behind/in front of the trailer wheels. I think in all our travels, only once have I had to double stack leveling blocks.

    Great video thanks for sharing. I have a WFCO WF-8735-P and was thinking this would charge well enough Lithium and then my 480w solar would bulk charge or top off the rest. Think that plan would work?

    • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923
      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 2 měsíci

      It will "work" but there are issues with doing it that way. First, a lithium battery is made of several "cells". Those cells need to be kept ballanced in a process called "equalization. Equalization occurs when a lithium battery gets "bulk charged". (Very heavy high current charging.) A lead acid converter and/or a solar panel are not capable of producing the required current to bulk charge a lithium battery, so equalization of the individual cells cannot happen. As a result, the cells will fall out of ballance, and the battery life will be negatively impacted. Second, since the lead acid converter cannot produce high charging currents, your charge times will be long. This can be problematic when camping several days in a row, where the battery does not have enough time to charge between trips. Third, since the lead acid battery cannot produce all the current the lithium battery asks for, other devices within your trailer may be starved for current, while the converter is trying to service the demands of the lithium battery.

    I got one side all done, fixing all the corrosion and using the magic paint on the connections and adding a low point drain. The system was working great, until I had a break on the other side of the camper where the Alde system is (with the rubber t drain) due to a corroded connection. I fixed that side and put in new fluid. Then I tried to run the pump to get the air out but the pump would not run. I'm thinking it is because it's too hot inside the camper (we're in the hot sun of FL) for Alde to turn the heat on. I'm going to try it again when it cools off. Have you experienced this, that is the pump not running due to the temp inside the camper?

    Did you do a video on setting up the auto detect for lithium batteries? There's a process for getting the audio detect to recognize the lithium. • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923
      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 4 měsíci

      The auto-detect feature would be more accurately called "auto-learn". The charger in the converter learns what kind of battery it is connected to by watching the battery charge from dead. A lithium battery pulls more current from the charger than does a lead battery while charging. For most lithium batteries the process is simple. 1. Disconnect your trailer from street power, and tow vehicle. 2. Turn on a device that draws a lot of current. Your refrigerator set to battery mode is a good choice. 3. Take a break and let the lithium battery drain all the way down to zero 4. Turn off the refrigerator. 5. Plug the trailer back into street power, and let the battery charge all the way up. That should allow the charger to learn what type of battery it is connected to. Note that some batteries require this process to be run twice. Safe travels.

Since the only apparent difference between the 8735-P, the 8735-AD and the 8740-AD is the converter, could you have left all of your original 8735-P hardware in place including all the breakers, AC connections, DC connections and fuses, and just swap out the converter? The issue is finding fittings with the same inside diameter as the black EPDM hose inside diameter. A fitting with a smaller inside diameter will restrict the flow of heat transfer fluid in the loop. Remember that the loop is not pressurized, and the fluid flows around the loop very slowly by a low power vane type pump. I chose the fittings I did because they are exactly the same inside diameter as the hose, and won't restrict. Just FYI, note that PVC pipe and fittings can NOT be used, as that material is not compatible with the prophylene glycol heat transfer fluid. It will soften it and melt it over time. I don't know if PEX plastic is compatible either.

    The copper T I got is the correct size you specify, but I notice the fit into the hose is tight. Is this OK? It seems that the 3/4 inch copper pipe I got is a better fit. Would it be better to solder two pieces of 3/4 pipe into both sides of the T and then connect the rubber hose to these pipes, instead of just using the T. Is a slightly tight fit OK? Is it possible that my copper T is a bit thicker than the one you used? Are they standard?

      @@tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Thank you for the reply. I got all of the radiators reinstalled. I had to shorten all of them to get rid of the connection corrosion, removing some fins. I used magic paint on all of the connections. I also installed the new drain, like you did. I ended up extending both sides of the tee with small sections of 3/4 inch pipe because I needed to add a little bit of length of pipe, to get the drain hole in a good spot. I have a question about the cap for the drain. I'm using a PVC cap. Can I use teflon pipe thread tape on the threads to seal it or should I used the pipe joint compound with PTFE like you did? If I use the pipe joint compound, will it be hard to remove the cap in the future? Thank you for all of your great information. I would not have been able to do this without your help. It's been a while since I've soldered copper pipe, but it all worked out.

    You are fantastic! I've learned a lot from you. I have the exact same T@B camper (same year too). I'm working on my connector corrosion problem using all the suggestions you mentioned, including using the magic paint. I'm getting ready now to reinstall all the radiators and hoses. I had to cut back some of the ends of my radiators because of extreme corrosion. I removed a few fins and my radiators are slightly shorter, but I think it will all work out. I haven't built the new drains yet, but that's next. Now, I'm a bit worried about refilling the system and getting the air our, so this video is really helpful. Your drawing of the system is also helpful, showing how all the hoses are connected. Thank you!

    Mark, Is your T@B a 320S? I have a T@B 400, do you know where the low points are in my trailer? Why couldn t you install vales in the new drain points inside the trailer? You can mount the valves horizontally to the side and the fluid will drain completely because when the fluid drops to the top of the drain, a small air gap will form allowing the entire volume to discharge. The value eliminates the exterior cap that could be damaged and leak withiut alerting the dangerious consition to the pump.

    With the newer tabs having the connection in the nautilus compartment would you make it longer?

    • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923
      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 7 měsíci

      Sure. The tip needs to be the same length, and the folded back part needs to be the same length, but the cable leading to it can be longer. Just be aware that cable doesn't conduct perfectly, and the longer the cable the weaker the signals will be getting to your TV. Make it just long enough to get out of the compartment.

    I want to change my glycol and change the automatic air purge valve. if I drain the fluid from the extension bowl through the drain under the trailer, then I disconnect the hose that runs from the bowl and send air from that hose to empty the rest of the fluid from the system, does that will air pass through the pump, or stop at the pump? I have had my fluid in the system for 6 years and it doesn't seem to have any corrosion like in your video.

      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 8 měsíci

      The circulation pump is a "vane' type. Vane type pumps can pass small pea sized bubbles, but if a larger pocket of air gets to it, it will just spin in that air, and pumping will stop. Vane type pumps cannot "self prime". That means tat once the pump starts spinning in air, it cannot by itself, start pumping again. You have to manually clear the air, and prime it yourself.

      Note that I want to blow air with an air pump into the system through the alde pump, but the Alde system pump will not be running. That's why I wanted to know if the air will pass through the Alde pump.

    • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923
      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 8 měsíci

      @manonboyer3718 Note that the Alde system is not a sealed system, and is not designed to hold pressure. Make sure that whatever air pump you use does not pressurize the system or it could damage components. Also know that there is a one way check valve in the alde heat loop. Ensure that you apply air in the correct direction. Forcing air pressure in the wrong direction can damage it.

    That's a simple and very effective cover you have made. Do you anchor the front legs when you have the roof in the down position. It strikes me that without being fastened down a wind could catch the front roof, lift it and potentially cause you some grief.

      The shed front legs are not anchored, but it is in a very sheltered place. Beside my garage, under the eve, surrounded by 50 foot pine trees, and a slope on the high side. We have storms that blow thru with 50mph gusts in the fall. It's been there over 2 years, and never budged. If it were built in an exposed area, I'd anchor the whole thing in concrete.

    Since there are two lines on each side, why don’t you have to put drains in all of them? With just two, one on each side, how do you remove the fluid from the other hoses?

    • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923

      The radiators are mounted sideways with one outlet above the outher. The drains are put in the lower of the two, and below both. Water seeks its own level, and siphons out both lines when the cap is opened.

    Alde are absolute insistant that copper fittings MUST NOT BE USED in Alde instalations. This is because copper reacts with the metals used in the system and WILL cause corrosion.

    • @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923
      @tabtrailerupgradesandmaint2923 Před 8 měsíci

      Details matter. Copper has difficulties with aluminum ONLY when it is in DIRECT physical electrical contact with the aluminum. This process is called "Galvanic" corrosion. No contact, no corosion. The copper "T"'s are not in electrical contact with any aluminum part. They are connected to the rubber hoses, which electrically insulates them. You need to read a bit about galvanic corrosion, and it's requirement of an electrical "circuit" to happen. And just FYI, there already are copper components in the alde system. Those components live fine in the system, because they are also insulated.

      This specific issue only involves a 3-way refrigerator running on propane with the front window open. I suppose, however, that if the Alde were running on propane, and that side window were open, under certain conditions, exhaust may drift in. You might just vent the otherside window, and close the Alde exhaust side window for a test.

    After reading all of these post about the WFCO AD models, it seems to me that they are a lot of issues when trying to use them with Lithium batteries . Seems like the AD doesn't work the way it's supposed to. I've been researching CZcams and its looks like the best things to do is to switch over to 'Progressive Dynamic' converter which has a switch which you can set for the type of battery you have or about to change to, like me...I'm going with the latter..Progressive Dynamic....Less headaches..But thanks for the video on the installation guide and tips..

      Three things are going on. 1. The "auto detect" feature is not what people think it is. It "auto learns" what type of battery it's connected to by watching one of more FULL charge cycles. People aren't being patient. 2. WFCO made a firmware change. Unscrupulous people are still selling older converters with the old firmware check the firmware version before your purchase. 3. People are installing these converters without upgrading the battery connections wire gague to handle the extra charge load. If the converter cannot see the increased charge load because the wires are too thin, it will stay in lead mode.
