The issue with bad smells coming from the toilet is that unlike your sink or shower, these toilets do not have water traps in their drains. That means that every time you flush the toilet, and open the flush gate, air and bad smells can rush up thru the toilet into the room.
In this video I describe the installation of a waste tank power ventilation fan.
This fan creates a large negative pressure within the waste tanks, blowing out the side sewer vent, preventing sewer gas from entering the room. The toilet itself will actually suck air from the toilet bowl while being flushed down into the tank from the room.
