How to Hardface an Acciaio Anvil!
zhlédnutí 691Před rokem
In today’s video, I hardface my Acciaio Anvil after I noticed some slight surface cracks in the cast steel on the surface due to mishits from other, more inexperienced people using my anvil. I didn’t want the cracks to propagate so I preheated it to about 400 degrees with a propane torch, ran a layer of 7018, and then a layer of Stoody 21 chromium carbide electrodes. The Stoody rods developed c...

I think your right spikes are upside down
I want to do a bobber seat but with skateboard bushings, just to take the edge off and still have a firm bench.
Sick! Lmk how it goes!
If you were willing to sell it how much would you sell it for?
Unfortunately I gave it away to my friend's younger cousin a while ago. I'd say I'd put it on marketplace for $300 obo.
To make your bike sound like it shifted go ask fast you can and shift and do all over again
Fantastic idea! We'll done.
great vid! seems much easier than what i was doing lol. I just had a shade 10 in front of the camera lens but it was still kinda crappy...hopefully this works better! Maybe ill try the shade in front and use your technique and see what happens.. who knows might work!
I’ve read that the image sensor can be damaged without a filter to protect against the massive UV from the arc.
Thanks for the heads up. I haven't had an issue, but that's good to consider.
I ran into the problem with the back wheel it turns but the opposite way any tips on how to fix it?
I just welded up the Seam where it free spins so the sprocket always directly spins with the wheel.
I do it on the same type of wheel in this video. czcams.com/video/D25k9AVa0k0/video.htmlsi=5N6ZqTuLSyEZoDWC
Nice video kiddo. Glad to see the younginz not just watching the tiktok
When you want to be a man but your just a boy 😂
What kind of exhaust do you use, that’s awesome something to look into keep doing videos
Thanks! I actually made it myself out of some scrap tubing that was already bent. I also welded a 3/4" standard lawn mower muffler to it. It's relatively high flow compared to the stock one but still not ear piercingly loud.
@@JohnWheels sweet
Nice video:), im planning to make the same setup. I still have the (broken) original battery and it says 10.8V, and u have it on 14.4V. Is it working fine on 14.4V, just wondering then im gonna make it like that aswell.
I believe these came in 10.8 and 14.4 V battery configurations depending on what year it was made. I would try 10.8 first and if you get the low battery voltage beeping alarm, then try 14.4.
What tools did it take to the the engine bolts off?
two, 1/2" wrenches
What about off a cheap professional camera
awsome man ! thank u so much 👍👍👍
Sucky video
how have i never thought of putting a light on my helmet ...im so angry. you got a like from me :D
i missed the part where you drive it🤷♂️
There's another video that came out a while after
What kind of welder is that you’re using, sir?
In the video I was using my friend's old harbor freight flux core welder. I've since purchased my own YesWelder MIG-205DS and I've been very happy with it.
@@JohnWheels thank you!
YEP ITS BETTER THAN THE STOCK ONE
Merci
Just literally bought one already converted was so confused when I looked the name up and found only electric bikes 😂🎉
Haha that's hilarious!
Dropping a 212 predator engine in it now wish me luck lol
Hell Yeah that's gonna be awesome! Lmk how it goes!
10:38 forgot the ground lol
Nice welds. That’s a lot of work but now you’ve got a great tool for a lifetime. I also like the way you started from trash.
Thank you!
THANKS! GREAT tool -- HF nailed this one.
Thanks for the video -- those rods are nifty! I like how they can heat up thick steel for a bend! By the way (you probably know this), you don't need acetylene for regular torch welding and cutting! Very inexpensive and easy to get torch tips are available to use propane - yep, grill gas bottles - instead of expensive and inconvenient acetylene. I switched to propane and oxygen a few years ago and it does a VERY good job. It seems almost as hot for welding (and doesn't really matter for most cutting). Waaaay cheaper, too. Just search for oxy-propane welding and cutting conversion tips to fit your torch. It is a 2-part sleeve thingie and about 10 bucks or so. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for the info! I think I saw a guy have a propane tank on his oxy-fuel cart one time but I just assumed he refilled it with acetylene. That's really good to know - I'll be looking into that for sure! Thanks!
@@JohnWheelsA few years ago when I first heard of propane-oxy, I was VERY skeptical. Being open minded (?) I gave it go because it was so cheap and, well, never went back to acetylene. As you know, it's the oxygen that does the cutting once you're hot anyway. For torch welding, the difference is hardly noticable. Of course, I use stick, MIG and TIG for that stuff anyway. Good luck and thanks again for your video! PS: Please make a video if you find p-oxy is a good thing (It IS). I will definitely tune in.
Thanks! Glad to hear! You got it if I do end up getting the oxy-propane!
Where did you go? Do you have a new video coming?
Thanks for checking in! I have been really busy with school and life so I just haven't had as much time to make things and film videos. There should a video coming out today though :)
You can run these rods perfectly with a DC welder (preferably a modern inverter type) using only one rod and a direct arc. Just like in welding a metal part you're heating must be connected to the ground clamp and the welding machine must be set to DCEN polarity. This is much more efficient than an indirect arc between two carbon rods. An indirect arc is only for non-metals and for materials where a direct arc is too damaging to a workpiece.
Interesting - I feel like it would make a localized molten puddle like a tig torch which would then oxidize and also leave carbon deposits. I guess I'll just have to give it a try. Thanks for the comment!
@@JohnWheels Well, both oxidation and carbon deposition indeed does take place to some extent, but on DC a carbon arc can burn pretty stable even at low current, so you can do different things with it by running it at various currents and arc lengths. A current limit you set on a welder basically defines maximum arc length at which a carbon arc can burn stable, at the same time it defines maximum energy/heat influx. So, at a certain current settings you can either melt and cut material with short arc or gently preheat it with long arc. A little downside to using a direct arc is that the arc tends to land where it feels lower resistance and thus by avoiding non-conductive surface impurities it tries to concentrate current to these conductive spots and then it can overheat and melt them a bit, so it is not applicable to finished surfaces. On a positive side, it is such a powerful and relatively precise and safe acetylene torch replacement I have no words to describe how useful it is, like a TIG that can run continuously without a shielding gas.
Awesome! Thanks!
I sprayed brake cleaner from further back and it shot the fires of hell into my eyeballs
Yikes! That brake clean will getcha!
Did you get a fix for it running for 15 seconds or so and shutting off?
If you haven't already, Make sure that that is 14.4 V under full load - have the filters on and the hose and helmet hooked up. If it shows 14.4 V under no-load, the voltage will drop a little when the load is applied. If that doesn't work, maybe try 14.5V or maybe your DRO is bad on the board and you can test the voltage with a multimeter. Lmk if that works
We need more videos making twin carbon arc torches a thing again. I can easily make my own carbon arc torch. I also made my first, oil cooled, 3 MOT welder.
Thanks! That's awesome about your welder!
im impressed good job
Gomna kill that led quick.... Or did it? 😂
I worked for as long as I used it. I didn't use it at night much and then I got an aftermarket flywheel so I couldn't use the charging coils so now I don't have a headlight. I'd probably recommend getting some sort of voltage regulator.
Hey man I liked your idea so i gave it a try. My adflo only idles up and down. Somthing is wrong do you have any tips? Thanks for posting czcams.com/users/shortseVEVb1UXvLA?si=WTm7d92ZQjj8xkU8 It works fine with 3m batterys, and i also checked and swapped my millwakee batt.
Hey I'm sorry for the late reply. I didn't see get a notification for your comment since I'm pretty sure yt doesn't like when you leave links which is super annoying. Ik I've had my own comments on other channels not show up when I leave a link. Anyway, I tried your link and it says unavailable. I believe these Adflo units had 2 voltages offered: 14.4 and 12.8. Id try both and see what happens. If it doesn't maybe try bumping it up a couple extra tenths of a volt because the DRO on the board my not be fully accurate
Also, make sure you set the voltage when you have all your filters on, and the helmet and hose connected since that adds resistance to the system.
When you welded the sprocket part, did you aluminum weld or is it steel?
It's steel 👍
Great video man! You got a link for the rockers?

Just found everything I need on Amazon and I just purchased a 3D printer for Christmas so this is perfect. Thanks for the informative video. It blows my mind that the battery cost $600 to replace. Cheers from Canada.
Flatheads suck! I went back and watched an old video today with my brother and I saw a comment from you. I was wondering what you were up to. Good stuff man! The dogs turned out great. Nice old saw!

Honestly I'm not really sure, sorry. I don't want to give people bad suggestions. I'm sure there's someone on CZcams who's done that though. Start with Red beards garage and Cars and cameras.
ok thank you@@JohnWheels
nice job John!
Great video! I will be trying this out!
I live in Illinois can you do mine 😂
Very good and informative video. I have the 9100fx and g5-01 and personally prefer how secure the 9100fx stays on compared to the g5. Not a big deal if you’re working in a shop but is extremely aggravating working 10 hour days and have to constantly move and fit into tough spaces. It’s a great idea using dewalt batteries instead of the overpriced 3m batteries and will someday implement it into my blower. Easier and cheaper to buy and charge multiple batteries and use with my other tools. I’ve rebuilt a couple of my 3m batteries but if my chargers start to die on me I’m doing the switch. I use to use the quick release half face but over time has left a dark spot and even widened the pores on the bridge of my nose and even occasionally cause pain from tenderness. Never go back to that again. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work.
Thanks! Sorry the half face is so uncomfortable over time! I try to avoid it by just saving it for tight spots too. Good luck with whatever you decide to do in the future!
