Back in 2018 or 19 Ubisoft began giving each new operator these insanely detailed and poorly written backstories in the psyche eval section of the operator overview. I remember reading it and thinking to myself "why would someone who's entire job it is to evaluate a person's aptitude for combat, leadership, and teamplay to tell us about their dark and mysterious past in extremely vivid detail? Isn't this meant to be a top secret organization? Why is this information even being documented?"

If they really needed an explanation for gameplay, why not go the direction league (a game that has a famously widespread and enjoyable lore)? "Nothing in the game is canon, you just use characters from the lore. The lore is separate and detailed."

Man I pray that one day starfied enters "modding heaven". It has the infinite generation available to not make locations crash, plus hopefully a good creation kit releas from Bethesda. But the unfortunate thing about starfield is that people care so little about the base game/story that nothing other than total conversation mods will save it.

terraria's world is not at all infinite, you can even set the size of the world before it's generated, and indeed if you get too many mods that add structures or biomes they can overlap

Shocked you didn’t bring up Kerbal Space Program. In my 9 years of playing i’ve genuinely never met someone play the vanilla (or as we call it, stock) game. Additionally it has some absolutely insane mods, for example RSS/RO which replaces the games solar system and tech tree with real life planets and tech respectively, or principa which literally rewrites the entire physics engine for one that calculates real time multi-body orbital physics. There are far more of these incredibly impressive mods many of which are based in deep knowledge of real science, math, engineering and physics. The KSP community is insane, im convinced they could actually build a real spaceship if they wanted.

I enjoyed Seige when it first came out, but i hate the direction they took the game. It went from being a serious and gritty game to yet another hero shooter with ridiculous and quirky characters. Its a good game, but it reallt shouldnt have Tom Clancy's name attached to it anymore.

I really have to mention Space Engineers here because it's on the level of minecraft. You can mod the game into different genres and you have access to nearly all the dev tools. Forge mode from Halo also needs a mention as, I will be honest, Forge is better than the actual game at this point.

Rimworld is another HUGE game with a gigantic modding scene that deserves a spot.
