Why You Quit That $30 Game After a Week

- As with some of my most prolific videos, I saw a lot of memes about this topic which inspired me to make my argument. My reason as to why we quit so many video games so fast. While my points mostly cover more indie/survival/base games like Deep Rock Galactic and Project Zomboid, they apply to almost any complex game. This video won't connect with everyone, as some of you are more naturally motivated than others. However, for people like me, this is a real struggle. If you think I'm wrong I actually have a PhD in videogame philosophy. The urgent informative voice is mostly anxiety.

This is actually a very interesting topic/discussion you brought up as it can definitely apply to any hobbies or even general activities in life. Going in with an expectation of quickly getting to the ideal version of a hobby without any struggle can even prevent you from further pursuing that. Never really thought about this before, awesome vid!

I dont do this much, i normally leave a game because my friend stops playing it
for me, it's important to consider my ADHD, as one of the main symptoms of ADHD is the near complete, if not total, removal of the entire "work ethic" section, where no gratification is felt from completing heavier or higher work requirement tasks, which, in turn, makes people with ADHD seem lazy, unmotivated, and contributes to the very low attention span
As someone with ADHD, I think the biggest thing for me is when it’s a story based game or I’m nearing the ending
When I know I have to commit to it for a long period of time, I just keep putting it off, but then a game I can start and stop whenever I want to, I’ll play it more often
Like I’ll play a couple rounds of Fortnite whenever I feel like it but put off the final mission of Ghostwire Tokyo for 6 months

i enjoy what i have seen of the video and i gotta say in my old friend group we certainly had this issue. however, it hurts to see deep rock as the thumbnail and picked on a little. i got that exact text a while ago when drg was free for ps plus and i had low expectations. i like it so much that i have bought it for pc and played it for more hours than i care to admit. i could go on and on about its difficulty curve and what not, thats lame. this isnt a rag on the vid or anything, i actually quite enjoyed it and i subbed so i hope to see more. just kinda made me sad to see drg up there. either way, i do hope more sorta mini video essays/little psyche studies likes this, keep it up man!

again amazing vids definitely liked and subbed, why was it such a good vid??? because there was no overcooking jokes, there was no fluff, straight to the point for 10 minutes straight. bonus the amount of games you presented, we could clearly see you had lots of experiences with games or the topic at hand (without starting the video with a sentence saying i have 10000 hours in x and y)

i've noticed this feeling in myself with Destiny 2. i love the feeling of getting things i wanted, but sitting there trying to complete the activity to get that weapon/armor is so grueling

I dont mind new games and learning them. But I like games that ease into it the first 30 minutes or so. I didnt fancy project zomboid at all since even with all settings in my favor I got swamped after just looting a cabinet. Tried restarting so many times and watched a few guides but it didnt work out for me.

interesting. for me its more like i get bored of the game and then a month later i am sooo exited to play it again, and i did take notice of the laziness, like i want to play but my brain just wont click the damn game icon, its annoying sometimes

Honestly I got like DRG for free from a friend and honestly been playing it repeatedly for along time. It got even better when some of my friends had it for a while or just got it and now I've been playing the game with them semi-regularly.

deep rock is one of those games were yes at the start it fun good and everything is great but ones you get to the real endgame a lot of players let down bc it took me like 300h to truely beat the hardst thing that the game has to offer and the grind to get there is why a lot of new players are let down even my brother dose not want to play deep rock he plays fafa and fort a lot

how does Project zomboid have a steep learning curve?? what? the problem isnt that its hard to learn, its that theres not enough content, and theres too much repetitive content (like combat, could be amazing if it was physics based). theres no reason to make a late game base because what will you do with it? the only point is to have it for the sake of having it. by the time you can make a base youve exhausted everything there is to do, you can see the patterns, nothing new is being introduced. people say zomboid is like the sims but it really isnt. the sims has hobbies, social mechanics, lots of stuff to do other than keeping your sims alive. in zomboid theres nothing like that, the moment youre not struggling to stay alive, the game becomes a pointless slog
