- Just like Frank Ocean, Blonde's vinyl has had a very rare presence online. Those unlucky enough to be fans of both records and Mr. Ocean have had a very difficult time acquiring one. But why is it such a coveted album in the first place? Let's step back and talk about Blonde, before getting into the barren history of it's Vinyl. If you're a fan of hip-hop, R&B or even rock give this album a couple listens. Let it marinate okay? No half-way listens and ditching it, listen to the whole thing like 18 times. Went to LA in the summer of 2022 on a cross country trip, went to a record store on Hollywood boulevard and in a random small basket in this huge vinyl store I found the black and white version of blond and buying that was the best feeling ever. I got it for $80 and at that time or a few months later it was going for around $1,400, I have had it framed in my room double sealed since that day because of how special this album is to me and how much it has helped me mentally

I’ve been (trying) following frank ever since I first heard Nostalgia Ultra…
I saw him live in Amsterdam (2013) where he blessed us with an “unreleased track” which years later turned out to be Seigfried!
I kept up with his website and bought the original vinyl(black/white cover), cd and magazine and later on the endless vinyl.
Now he released the vinyl again and i just had to buy it in color this time
It’s that one record I will never get rid of. It was such an important time in my life and blonde was there to compliment everything I had going on
To this day I feel blessed to: I GOT TWO VERSIONS. I GOT TWOOO VERSIONS!

So sorry about that! I’m so glad to hear that Blond is helping you! If you ever need another album for that I find Apolonio by Omar Apollo is great. His music is very inspired by Frank Ocean. I like to play albums at a very quiet volume too, enough to where I can’t hear it unless I’m perfectly still

Got my original on Black Friday 2016. It was $35 USD back then 😁 I’m pretty sure that the record was available for the entirety of the 24h window, cause I didn’t exactly jump on it the moment the webstore opened. It’s probably just that a lot less people were collecting vinyl in 2016. It’s the most expensive record in my collection by a country mile, even after the reissues have lessened the demand massively. Also mate, I’m sure a million people have told you by now, but the plural of vinyl is vinyl - if you really have to pluralise it, say vinyl records. Cheers
6:51 it’s worth noting that Endless got its first vinyl and CD/DVD release in 2018, so I wouldn’t exactly that say that *nothing* happened.

The whole point of vinyls is the sound being “warmer” and having slight imperfections that provide a different, more “natural” listening experience. With such formats as DSD, WAV and FLAC, and with the constantly developing world of amps and DACs, digital music has reached tremendous levels of quality, oftentimes providing a clearer, more detailed sound compared to vinyls.

RAM was out of stock between somewhere like 2018 and 2021, so it was a pain to get (despite being the most popular vinyl record on Discogs) until the band’s catalogue got reissued 6-ish months after they announced they were ending Daft Punk. So him mentioning RAM being hard to get in 2020 holds a little bit of weight

That ending point you made I couldn't agree with more. Vinyl records are literally just plastic and cardboard, and It's so lame when artists pride themselves in never restocking their products out of this made up idea of "rarity".
for me JPEGMAFIA's "LP!" comes to mind. The original Liquor store cover was only pressed once and the only way to get one today is to cough up $250 on Discog
I've also seen artists like Westside Gunn say they'll never do restocks because "If you have an original you have a piece of ART, no money will compromise that" Like as if more copies = less artsy??
Autographing records or making genuinely limited alternate versions (like a tour exclusive or something) is a great way to have rare copies. But I just strongly dislike when artists starve their audience out of owning a basic pressing for an album for no good reason
