Can you explain why for the C major scale the chords moving up the scale are I, ii, iii, IV, V, vi, vii? Is this just a music principle or something? For example, why is it not all Major chords (C maj, D maj, E maj etc)

Jake Under the In The Key Of D Major, Why do you have a Bb and a bii Dim. I Understand the E Dim is the two chord of the Dminor scale but could not figure out the B Flat and Flat ii Dim means? Thanks for the great lesson, Rd

When I heard this chord progression I immediately started thinking of house of the rising sun a little, different key and time signature but same harmony in the first four measures and if you really wanted to hone in on it, play in 6/8 or 3/4 time signature. :P

in the F-Eb-G-C chord progression i guess you could treat it as an ascending semitones, like A,from F-Bb, from Eb, -B, from G, and then-C

Recently I've been analysing Zero Chance by Soundgarden. It drove me slightly mad! I eventually got it to a point were it made sense to me. I sometime wonder if we should be able to write something as 4.5 over 4. It seems mad, but the intro to that song is felt very strongly in the drums as 1 and 2 and 3 and etc but there's 11 quavers. So the only way I could make it work was to write it as 3/8 followed by 4/4 but it would make more sense to call it 4.5/4. If any one is tempted to look at that song don't just look at the intro. The whole song is full of weird time signature changes. Also thanks for the video, I was taught that 6/8 IS a compound metre and it took a long time for me to get past this HIGHLY LIMITING way of thinking/using the metre

Thank goodness Signals is back! HORAAY! Jake is supreme as a teacher. I love Rick Beato too, but agree there's a dry academic feeling to his teaching specifically. Nevertheless Rick is great still, likable and smart. But Jake... Jake's the man! :-) Some of his vids are simply the greatest online music teaching! Btw, also excellent... and if you want severe brain strain, try Jens Larsen. Another super, super smart guy! Bu his vids are DENSE beyond compare.

Nice.. question...why is the Roman numerals in a minor key i for minor 1? Isn't that really iv in the relative major key? Like it's the aeolian mode of a major key and everything is supposed to be based off the major scale so how can there be a minor 1 chord..like I get that you're playing A minor but shouldn't we be saying were in the key of C? Like is there a diminished 2 chord for minor keys AND a diminished 7chord for major keys? Basically I don't really think a "minor key" exists. Or should be notated as such anyway to avoid confusion. Idk
