Blown Fuses that I originally thought just went bad. As I dove more into the system, I think the fuse went bad because the unit was probably pulling high amps running that high head pressure. I love watching you trying to apply the knowledge youve learned into all the actual real world situations. As a new tech it seems like nothing is ever as clear as they teach it or you read.
MAN WHAT?! School did not "prepare me" like they thought it did. All it gave me was a concrete pad as a foundation with no floor plans đđ€Ł
@AB_HVAC 100% man. Ya never learn till ya get out there. You go through the systems properly to diagnose the issues and explain your thought process well. The tricky issues you come across are usually the ones that get me too đ€Ł
@oilandfireguy1739 glad to know I'm not the only one
@AB_HVAC definitely not! I learn a lot from watching you make it thru those calls!
Nice find! I had one of those Nests in a house I bought for about 3.5 years. Functionally I didn't like it, but I guess I got lucky b/c it didn't fail on me.
I'll be honest, on 1H1C systems I find them to last a lot longer than if they have to do a 2H1C systems. I don't know why, that's just my experience
@@AB_HVAC Interesting.
@@AB_HVAC Oh... Correction: I had an Ecobee, not a Nest. They kinda look similar.
@jkmarshall3553 they do. I haven't seen much of those since I've moved down south
Youâve got an awesome attitude and know how to speak with your customers young man.
Thank you so much. I try to articulate myself well or else my Marine Mother would kick my butt for making her look bad đ€Ł
To get the CFM of the filter grate, you have to do the math. You take the dimensions and times y each other than times by 2. 20 times 16=320. 320 times 2 give you 640 cfm for that filter grate. Way to small. Suggest a high velocity grill to help it out
What is a high velocity grille? I've never heard of that
@@AB_HVAC Another name for It, is a wide louver grill. It's a filter grill that kinda looks like a louvered door in front of that air handler. It allows more FPM and CFM air flow to quiet down the noise.
@smacleod69 ooooh okay
Nice job.... đ
Thanks.....đ«
Good diagnosing the isse AB.
Off subject but bro in your into video I see you brazing while not moving back the armor flex, why that just makes a nasty smells and it looks like shit but that my only issue I have seen from you đ sorry man
Smells good to me
LMAO. That coil cover screams "welcome to the south"! Good vid, man.
Thank you đđœ I wanna know If they'll put the filter grille back
Why couldn't you just disconnect the heat strip power wires in the AHU instead of all the control wires? Then theres no chance for the strips to run no matter how crazy the situation or how many buttons they press.
That's just it, I don't want them to for any reason because I don't think even just 5k strips can be handled on that 14/2 romex especially with blower motor running. So I made sure the heat pump couldn't activate defrost and the thermostat wouldn't turn on auxiliary heat. The plug in that air handler connects the heat strip kit area to the control board. If I just unplug it, it wouldn't work at all
@@AB_HVAC the heat strip coils don't have terminals?
@Mo4Honesty well yeah those do. But I mean I'd rather disconnect the low voltage call rather than the high voltage. You take the blower panel off and just see the wires off and someone will think "well those need to be on the terminals" and then now they just place them back. But removing the W inside and out may get the gears turning in someone's head. Either way works thou
First time for me seeing Circle K batteries!! Are they trying to compete with 7-Eleven brand ?? đđ
Man, circle k almost a one stop shop đ€Ł they got some pliers in there if you need em too and gloves
@@AB_HVAC it's the private label that surprised me. I don't guess they sell bandaids and ibuprofen under circle k name, but maybe they do?
@Mo4Honesty I've seen badaids but not ibuprofen
Good job Austin. You are developing judgement.
Very high percentage of the time itâs in the EVAP
Facts!!
What's good bro new subscriber here peace and love. Keep doing what you doing bro. I'm gonna look into getting a new system soon possibly finance a new system
THANKS FOR THE SUB!! The sooner the better on that changeout man. Get a trusted company/contractor in your area
@@AB_HVAC true indeed definitely
Exactly how I would have handled the panel. Nice
I just made sure I didn't see any ridiculous wiring exposed. Everything seemed either wired up or safely covered
Nice job on the approach when you get to the job. The walk around visual goes along way before bringing all the tools out. Great catch on the heaters and power wires. I always checked that heater, wires and feed breaker with new customers.. Caught this issue all the time. Heaters are usually dual KW, in other words 10K or 8k depending on the voltage feeding the AHU or Heater Block if seperate. 10k needs 6 gauge, so best to have 6 guage if using 8 or 10 kw. Always look at the nameplate of the heater. Wire and breaker sizes are important. Nameplate will give you breaker sizes or MOP(Maximum Overcurrent Protection) Whoever was there before did the right thing and pulled half the heat off. With the black and white wire you showed, looks like there was a 120v system in there or gas furnace. looked like 12 gauge. Enjoyed the vid.
Thanks man for the detailed comment. During Winter time I'm normally better about that stuff, I was running on fumes yesterday
You should have cut the other breakers off first. You assumed liability for all of the other circuits being good. 8 ga wire is good for 40 amps. The breaker will also need to be changed to a max 40a breaker in this case and only 5kw strips can be used. 10kw (9.6kw actual) heat strips will pull 44 amps at 220V Than add a few amps for the fan. The minimum required wire size will be #6. In some jurisdictions the code requires the use of the 60degC rating which would require a #4 wire.
It's a good thing I mentioned my mess ups at the end
Good videos keep it going bro, curious how long you been on the field and your partner.
I've been doing HVAC completely since 2019. Started service work in 2020. My buddy been doing this since July of last year
Great video! How do you know if the unit needs a ptrap?
Drain is on the return side
Negative pressurized drains (blower after evap coil) need traps
The disconnect is to low to the ground. Be well.
U did'nt pick up the twigs and leaves, just left them there ,that's being LAZY MY FRIEND!!!!!!!
Oh I'm sorry, I was cleaning the condenser coil, not the whole condenser.
The owner trying to hide the line set in downspout gutter components so the copper doesn't get stolen. LOL!
đ€Łđ€Ł it's out there in the hood it might get swiped
I would have check from hot to neutral if ok,then it's inside the air handler
gosh, the new guy is always getting his probes wet!
What happens to the old motor, will the homeowner give it to you for free or will he sell it to you?
What wpuld the homeowner want with a old condenser fan motor?
@@AB_HVAC i'm not from the U.S, so here as workers, we can't take the broken part unless the homeowner agrees to
@ProckerDark ah, understandable. I'd probably have to mail this motor to the homeowner if they truly wanted it
@@ProckerDark Technically it's the same here, if the home owner wants it they keep it since they are the one who paid for it, but most people ask you to throw it out for them.
This is the 2nd channel run by a black hvac tech. That's like seeing a couple of wealthy white women washing dishes at Dennys or a 95yo old guy doing landscaping or a tiny chinese NFL player.

Why is it called PJM ? What does the J stand for?
I honestly to this day ...don't know. Like I ask my boss why that's a line item in Housecall Pro and he just shrugs his shoulders
Did you get a look at the daughter? Hot or not?
I like Jacob. 3 tonz a joke for 2k sq, ft.
Yeah idk how that thing is working for this house but the customer said he has been fine throughout the rest of the yeah but consistently every summer it seems to struggle more and more
Sorry man, I just can't watch when you're working together with him. The professionalism and quality go right out the window. It's like watching a comedy show. đ
That's respectable. You're entitled to your own opinion. I'm not going to be super professional all the time. If he's in the video I'm going to crack a few jokes here n there. Majority of the old heads I started out with couldn't crack jokes or know how to lighten up every once in a while. Jacob is a yr younger than me, we crack jokes but get stuff done when it needs to be done
Gotta have balance. I donât have a problem with it at all man, just having a little fun nothing wrong with it. Work shouldnât always be so serious
@@AB_HVACkeep doing your thing man. Some people just like to be negative
APPRECIATE IT MAN!! Imma keep doing me and enjoy this job day in and day out
A little jocularity makes the day go faster and is a good change of pace!
Stay safe out there... that lightning is no joke! I'd say that home need at least a 3.5 ton. Thanks for posting the video!
Thanks for watching! That units been there for years and supposedly it just now can't keep up with summer temps đ€·đŸââïž
@@AB_HVAC My sister bought an 1800 sq ft new house with volume ceilings in 2013 that has a 2.5 ton carrier installed by the contractor. It somehow is keeping up with cooling the house??? Seems like a ton too small to me.
@jkmarshall3553 just goes to show how important insulation is as well as a good load calc. I'm starting to see that.
OMG!! Don't tell me you just replaced 14 guage romex with an air conditioning whip. Hey genius guess the guage of the whip. You're on probably a 15 amp circuit breaker. Jesus Christ you're dangerous. Ever hear of CODE? Biggest hack on CZcams. Yet you keep posting these videos. Amazing. Whats your company's Phone number. I'd love to talk to the owner.
Dude, if you don't like the videos, don't watch. Move on...
That's a #10 thhn rated for 35 Amps. Calm your man tit's down buddy. Doesn't look the best but it's definitely not a safety issue.
@@jkmarshall3553 He's dangerous. He needs to be supervised. Sounds like you are too.
@user-tx7ce4lq1y so you're mad that I oversized the wire? It still has 14gauge Romex going to its breaker. I'm confused on the problem. It'll still trip if it's over 15A
@@AB_HVAC You're dumb. Talk to any qualified electrician. You should be working at KFC.
Holy Sh*t!
Gray tubing is polybutylene
forget the water in the return, is that flex, exhaust vent bent in a trap also, fix that first!
I made note of it to them but it's forced exhaust, is it really gonna do that much damage? I know on natural drafts it would be super bad but from a performance aspect what would it do on induce draft?
I,ve never seen water in a system that bad.
Man it was terrible, the smell up there was just đ€ź
That amount of water was insane! Nice work getting them back in some cool air!
đđœđđœ thank you, took a minute to realize that line was backpitched
Do do do do do
Didn't notice the flexable flue pipe was pitched downward? You left them with a dangerous situation. Why is someone else doing your job. You should of drained the water from the return. I'm seriously amazed your company put you in a truck by yourself.
Good job AB!!
I forgot to mention my Milwaukee battery didn't have enough charge to empty out all that water. My 2.5gal vacuum wouldn't have gotten it done as fast as their maintenance man's gigantic one. The property management's I deal with want things done as cheap as possible, if I knock then on every little thing we won't get work. When it poses an issue during heat season I can make them aware of the issue but I'm there to fix an AC issue and stop the leak, mission was accomplished, hop off my channel and my nuts if you're only gonna be negative
U r not a Hack. Please believe me
Too much subcool will reduce your efficiency.
I got a brand new UNIT and it does the same exact thing, 100 degree days its stuck at 80 ones the temps peak at its highest, the return is the same but its a 3 ton so im not sure, everything is literally brand new though lol.
Most the time theyre designed to maintain 75 on 95 days. So 80 inside to 100 outside is doing well. There's more to cooling a home than just a new unit. Just like there's more to making a car go faster other than just getting a bigger engine
Just asking why put leak sealer in that new of a system quick search would tell you if coil is under warranty. Thanks
Unit is under warranty but the amount of money in refrigerant and labor for the job isn't as cheap as just a gas and go with a sealant and at the time of the service call I couldn't call the supply house to see if the coil was in stock. They're trying to get a tenant in there as fast as possible, and this is the option that suits their time frame.
5 year warranty, depending on install date, could still be under warranty.
It's under 5yr but the labor and refrigerant is a more expensive option than just gas it up and add a sealant.
@@AB_HVAC IMO, that coil is not going to get any better over time, certainly not years. It's under warranty now, but a year or two down the road it won't be. They have to pay for refrigerant now since most of it leaked out anyway. An additional hour or two of labor and a little more on the refrigerant side and they could be good for another 10 to 15 years. If I was the owner, that's the option I'd be taking. Just saying. Were they given that option?
@Bill_CBR they were given that option but with the price of labor of doin that job it costed more. They didn't wanna go through with it. At 8am today I filled it up and dropped a dye in there
@@AB_HVAC Well that's great that at least they knew. "You can lead a horse to water" as they say. Nice you were able to get back so soon.
@Bill_CBR I try to give them as many options as I can
Good job AB
Too many people don't bother to read or listen. If you have a maintenance limit, you can't do all those super-tech tricks even if you want to. What part don't they get about the word LIMIT?
Yeah it's tough
anytime you find an overheated fuse, double check the prongs for tightness and measure the voltage drop across the fuse to ensure it did not die of unnatural causes
I never knew that was a thing but that makes sense
dang that furnace has a little bit of an overbite, is that filter tray undersized?
shut down service valves, add nitrogen to 250psi, leak check again, you will find bubbles and multiple hits from the detector.
Pretty much just isolate the evap coil from the condenser and test it that way?
i have mixed feelings about aluminum evaps . I think they are more prone to leaking due to it having a lower tensile strenght , in addition to that you have 2 dissimilar metals in contact ( the copper lineset brazed to the evap) that could cause problems due to chemical incompatability
I definitely don't like them
