Great atmosphere and music, but this game needs to be played with a guide due to a series of maze dungeons
i absolutely love this game but i won't sugarcoat it, the gameplay is very janky, cryptic and tedious for the most part of it (and gets reeeally carried away with its mazes). but if you can endure that, there's really something unique here, although also comes a little short, like they ran out of budget halfway or something. i'm taking part on this gaming club of sorts by the name of retro hangover, this title is this month's choice, and people are hating it beyond compare. it's kinda funny, actually, because i get it even though i really like this game. the best things about it are the soundtrack, the ambience and the good change of pace from the swords and magic theme. feels like an afternoon special with michael j. fox. just be warned, it's quite unpolished.
The ambient sounds are so good, just listen to Nobilia square: wind blowing over tiles, distant sounds from the market, and birds chirping. It all has a slight reverb because you're in an open square surrounded by buildings. The forest is another good one.
The ambient sounds are one of my favorite things about it. It has a super calming effect that fits in so well with the world. It's one of the main reasons why I keep coming back to the game.
I liked secret of evermore more than secret of mana. No shade to mana.
One of the best imo, playing it again for the first time in years right now on the steam deck. A true gem
These pixel art games are great on small consoles but are a mess in larger screens.
Battle Chasers Nightwar is amazing and a must play switch RPG . Xenoblade Chronicles HD, Fire Emblem Echoes (3ds) Fire Emblem Engage switch , Unicorn Overlord ( must play right away ) switch. Radiant Historial (3ds) OH GOOD LORD this game is why I love RPG's . Great list my man .. 💪

Thanks, man. You should definitely give Chained Echoes a shot. Nothing quite holds up to Chrono Trigger for me personally, but it does hit on a lot of the same highlights.

Overcooked 2. It's such a great co-op game to introduce your non-gamer friends to, and actually have a blast within minutes of teaching them the controls.
That is a really good one! It's always just a fun pick up and play party game.

Ive been following RPGs for years now and haven't been able to sink my teeth into any of them more than a few hours. Not since FFX in highschool did i spend that much time on a game like that. 😢 Someday...

I just finished it recently. I think they managed to surpass Blasphemous 2 in almost every department.
It's up there for me. I think I still enjoyed Blasphemous 2 just a little better, but it was very close.

Would swap out Octopath Traveller for Trials of Mana or FFXII remake and would rather Shin Megami V for the Persona Slot. Xenoblade 2 or 3 deserves a shout too to break up the Square Enix goodness!
If you like chained echoes check out rise of the third power. Imo its so much better and not nearly as hair pulling difficult.

I've been playing both dq11d and p5r along side each other. Two masterpieces but very different but equally awesome.

Thanks for being a subscriber! Sadly, it isn't available on any modern platform. So the easiest way to play would be to download an SNES emulator to either your phone or computer. Some good options would be RetroArch, or Lemuroid for your phone. Then just download the ROM.

This list is sorely lacking anything Xenoblade. While I have several games i'd personally put above many in this list (like Trials of Mana Remake, Triangle Strategy , (NEO) The World Ends With You or even Harvestella), I can see why others wouldn't. But not to include any of the Xenoblade games is just wrong, especially when Star Ocean 2 and Live A Live are on it (and DQ11, i really didn't like it, but most JRPG fans seem to love it, for a reason I can't really understand). I'm not saying these games are bad (ok, to be honest, i would say Live A Live is pretty bad), but I can't think of a reason to put them above any of the Xenoblade games.
I appreciate the comment. And all of the games that you listed I do love, the Trials of Mana remake and Triangle Strategy are incredible! I just happen to enjoy the ones I mentioned a little more. However, as far as Xenoblade, I honestly never really enjoyed them. I know tons of people love and adore the series, and that's awesome, but they just never really clicked with me personally.

@@iveybullard8988 agreed. if you gonna pick a Megaten game on switch then why P5R? at this time of writing SMT:V is *still* exclusive to switch and has arguably better gameplay

Good list buddy. Dragon Quest xi is one of my favourite switch games. Loving OT 2 and looking forward to star ocean. While I respect what live alive is, it didn't quite gel with me even at the end. One day I will allow myself to get sucked into persona 5. Started it once but could quickly tell I wasn't in the right mindset for it yet

Chained Echoes is so good! Sea of Stars is definitely smaller in scale as far playtime and story arch goes, but they're both up there as 2 of my favorites.

Disappointing list. 4/5 are just SquareEnix RPGs, and only one non turn based entry. With such a large catalog of amazing games to choose from, I really would've liked to see more variety here.

@@MaskyFalle Thanks for asking. First, I would make it a top 10 list. 5 just isn't enough room for how good the RPG library is. My list would be: 10. Ys VIII 9. Valkyria Chronicles 4 8. Legend Of Heroes: Trails From Zero and Trails Into Azure 7. Bug Fables 6. Monster Hunter Stories 2 5. Cross Code 4. Fuga: Melodies Of Steel 1&2 3. Chained Echoes 2. Persona 5 Royal 1. Xenoblade 3 I would also give special mention to upcoming games that are not quite out yet that will most likely earn a spot on this list before the end of this year: Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

I’m 85 hours into octopath 2,it’s a beast of an rpg and I’m maybe a bit over half way through and it looks great on the switch oled even after trying it on ps5 first.
It is packed full of so much content but still flows so well. It's definitely a game that I would choose on the Switch over the PS5. It just feels right on a Nintendo platform.
I've played through this game more than probably any game ever, excluding short rouge-likes, but certainly when it come to RPGs. I've played it a lot more again in recent years due to the randomizer called "Evermizer". A game I would recommend to anyone who enjoys (A)RPGs.
Oh cool! I'll have to check out Evermizer. It is definitely a game that I always come back to as well.
I got P5 a bit ago but am afraid of playing it wrong? Like, I’m worried I’m focusing on the wrong things, leveling the wrong folks up. Any ideas on how to combat this worry and enjoy it more?
Yea, it can be a little overwhelming at first. Honestly, though, I'd say just don't worry too much about it on your first play through, and enjoy the ride. Other than that, just read all of the books that you can. Focus on your relationships with confidants. Only sleep when you have to, try to do something productive at night. And finish palaces in one go. It can be as complicated or as easy as you make it.
Understand that 100% completion is basically unattainable in your first playthrough due to lack of experience. What you should work on first and foremost is Confidants, and if you don't have the stats to progress one, focus on progressing others while you raise them.

Some absolute KILLER titles here. I'm a huge fan of Dragon Quest XI, Star Ocean 2 and Persona 5 Royal. Octopath Traveller 2 has been on my to play list for a long while. Hoping to finally play it this year

You need to “display” the games you are talking about a lot better than you do now.I kept having to pause,rewind,fast forward,pause,rewind,pause again.I see tons of other people on CZcams display their choices very big,and keep them on the screen for a minute.

My damn favourite game of all time. Going to play it again soon. And I swear there is a bender for Dry Ice and I could swear I have found it. But it isn’t a person but rather a wall vending machine. It looks just like other sections of wall, but it is a vender there and it sells Dry Ice and it wasnt cheap either. I remember I was leveling my Call Beads skill and found it hard to grind out the money to buy more Dry Ice.
