Sea of Stars is one of the most impressive retro inspired JRPGs ever made. Let's talk about everything that makes this game so special in today's video. #seaofstars #RPG #nintendoswitch
Yep, The Messenger is definitely worth it. Even though it's a side scrolling platformer, it has just as much polished gameplay as Sea of Stars. Sabotage has quickly become my favorite indie studio.
The Messenger is still one of the best 2D games i’ve ever played. Its challenging and hilarious. I always checked the shopkeeper just in case he had new things to say😂
@tvsapacheindonesia lol the humor is definitely one of the best parts of The Messenger! It always felt like some bad 80s B-action movie. You should definitely check out Blasphemous 2. I played through it recently to make a video on, and it is incredible.
Other than what you have mentioned, the thing that really stood out for me was the lack of bugs, glitches and crashes. I have lost count of the number of games I have played recently where they crashed to desktop or I had to force quit. The game is really polished!
Hey, nice to see you review this game. Haven't picked it up myself yet but I played the demo (waiting for the physical copy release). Fantastic game. Definitely felt elements from classic RPGs like Breath of Fire and Chrono Trigger. Also, glad you mentioned Illusion of Gaia. Very underrated classic.
I'm definitely going to be picking up the physical copy as well. Sabotage Studios can just go ahead and take all of my money, lol. I'm glad you enjoyed the review, and I hope you have a great time when you play the full game. It's a great experience.
ONLY bummer is the equipment. Would have been great to have more variety. All the weapons don’t do anything unique. Just add more power. Would have been nice if they could change characters attacks, reduce no cost, increase damage if timed, alter the second hit of times attacks to do a different unlock, add mp, add a new skill. Etc. difficulty was almost perfect as well, maybe should have had enemies hit a little harder
Yea, I do agree with the equipment aspect. Different animations, and strategically beneficial buffs would've been a great addition. Thanks for watching!
Yet another game I started and played for a little while, stopped, and wanna get back to. It's so many games I started and never finished and got upcoming games like Super Mario Bros Wonder,Sonic Superstars,Super Mario RPG remake and Robocop Rogue City that I wanna play. Currently playing through Hogwarts Legacy too, gotta a lot work to do but it's a good kinda work.
Haha, yea the backlog can definitely escalate very quickly. Especially with so many great games that have come out recently. I hear Hogwarts Legacy is pretty sick, though. I'll have to give it a shot soon.
Chained Echoes is so good! Sea of Stars is definitely smaller in scale as far playtime and story arch goes, but they're both up there as 2 of my favorites.
I’m a JRPG fanatic. You name it, I’ve played it. This was my most anticipated game of the year. I don’t know what it js, but this game is very “meh” to me. It took forever to be engaged with it. It starts sooooo slow. I powered through and got to where the game finally picks up. But the entire time i played it, it felt like ai was just going through the motions. I had a blast with Chained Echoes but minus the graphics, this game just never hooked me. Which is shocking condiering my top 10 favorite games ever is riddles with SNES and playstation 2 JRPG’s. I didn’t hate it. It’s still decent. But I was definitely a bit disappointed. Maybe it was just JRPG burnout and I’ll have to revisit it later on 🤷♂️
Oh yea, I completely understand that. I think that has a lot to do with it being an indie title, though. But I actually found the linear aspect of it refreshing, coming out Tears of the Kingdom it was nice to just have a set path.
Disappointing you didn't mention anything about the story. Without spoiling you could at least let us know if it's a childish game, dark game, good twists, etc.
Hey, first of all, thank you for watching. And sorry about not including those aspects. I'm still fairly new at this, but I'll be sure to keep that in mind going forward.
@incrediblehak2833 So the story is very much a light hearted feel good game, but I would never say that it is childish. It is pretty barebones in comparison to larger scale RPGs. It works more as an effective means in keeping the game going. It doesn't do anything new in that sense, and is fairly generic in the plotline; following a group of young adults who have taken it upon themselves to go out into the world to defeat an evil force hellbent on destroying their world. While there are plot twists, betrayal, and plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor, you won't be seeing anything heavy or surprising to the extent of something like Aerith from FF7, or Chrono in Chrono Trigger.
dude it's not THAT good. the graphics are REALLY cool, but the soundtrack is really hit or miss. I quit it 15 hours in. The combat is so so, there are no puzzles or dungeons. I felt like I was playing just for the graphics, and my own nostalgia fueling my imagination. game feels off, like it lacks soul. Only true gamers will get what I'm talking about.
After just completing it, I must say that was not a very good game. Very disappointing. Everything was a simple puzzle(including battles). No customization, replayability, or challenge anywhere.
I love this game so much. I highly recommend also playing their other game, The Messenger. It's a platformer with just as much love put into it.

@@gabegoforthgenre is less important than charm and love. Obviously you know also. Not tellin u
Messenger is probably the best indie game ever existed

Just finished it today. Loved every minute
Same here! It was one of the best gaming experiences that I've had in a very long time. Looking forward to the DLC.

@@gabegoforthHogwarts Legacy is awesome
So good loving it on my steam deck!
I'm sure it looks great on the Steam Deck, especially on their new OLED.
@@gabegoforth indeed I just have the older model but it’s amazing love these indies that have deep stories and great on battery life lol
In my backlog. Still pushing through Chained Echoes. But cant wait to play it.

@@gabegoforth Agreed, I really like it so far. the past few years have been great from the indy scene with RPGs like these.
Everyone needs to play and love this game. I found it during a sad time and it cheered me up and made my life that much better.
That's awesome. It's definitely a feel-good game, and it always puts me in a good place when I play through it.
You should try eastward it's more story driven but a beautiful game.

This is a v cool revieww!!!
Hey, thank you!
Gaaaahh I only wish the steam version was compatible with macOS and not just Windows :'(
Oh, that does suck to hear! And surprising that it wouldn't be compatible :/
Looks like a love child between the chrono games and the breath of fire series
Yea, it most definitely is. Fans of either of those will love this game.
I like this game, but my main complaint is how linear the game is.
Oh yea, I completely understand that. I think that has a lot to do with it being an indie title, though. But I actually found the linear aspect of it refreshing, coming out Tears of the Kingdom it was nice to just have a set path.

@@gabegoforth so what would you say the tone of the story is? Like is it a light, feel good game? Or does it have dark turns and complex twists?

It's not that great. The combat is meh, the story is generic, the characters are extremely boring....just can't get into it.
While the puzzles aren't hard they are there and what do you mean no dungeons damn near every place you go to that ain't a town is a dungeon
the game is shit tier! Much love

The game was excellent 10 out of 10
