I quite liked the Alcazar fake-out. But the ABBA avatars really didn't work, that part of the show was a real downer.

...what a shame we didn't get the cartoon series, it would've been so popular.The cartoon likeness to ABBA are really spectacular. I would have l❤️ved to see If it Wasn't For The Night's,When I Kissed The Teacher, Sitting in A Palm Tree 🙉, Dance(while the music still goes On), Eagle, I Am The City...i could go on and on and on!..on another note, i taped the documentary ABBA against The Odds a few weeks ago and finally got around to watching it...the first 10mins took me 30mins to watch and the first hour watched took me another 90mins to watch! It was so interesting with a few new unshown photos, so that's why i had to keep rewinding and rewatching the documentary....i really enjoyed it. I really do think that they shot themselves in the foot. Obviously it's well within ABBA's right to deny a reunion, and they don't owe anyone anything. I'm guessing whoever came up with the idea is probably going to be massively demoted after its terrible reception... It's easy to say "people should have known", but even if you do know, it just makes the entire show feel odd and makes a lot of the jokes and references seem odd and cringey. The pacing of the contest is thrown off because they're building to a pay-off that never comes. I personally felt massively disappointed, not because I wanted to see ABBA, but because there was all this build-up with no payoff, i.e. basically the definition of a disappointment.

I do partially agree with you and the ranting was somewhat in it’s place. I didn’t have high hopes that ABBA would show up at ESC. But I had imagined that there would have been done something differently to pay a tribute to ABBA (and someone can have some hope of course). To be honest it was a bit of a bummer that the finale was a kind of a little disaster, because of all the political things that somehow got involved. But apart from that I did like the tribute to a certain extent. I did like that ESC referenced The Voyage Show and that there was a little throwback to Waterloo from ‘74’. What I disliked was the fact that after a short while three of the former winners continued the song. I didn’t like the performance and I was thinking that this didn’t really do justice to ABBA. They could have better let a really good ABBA tribute band cover the song after the 1974 footage was shown (I was thinking about The Waterloo tribute band from Sweden with Katja and Camilla for example). Or they could have shown more footage of their career + some of the other big/ lesser known hits/ songs. In that way the tribute would have made a bigger impact.

They had made it clear that ABBA would not perform, in fact the alcazar act was also revealed before it happend. The show was great and the segment was a nice touch.

It looked like promotion for Voyage.

Of course a lot of people would say Dancing Queen than the different version of " Why it have to be me" and then calling it " Happy Hawaii " , but my personal favourites for during that time and for be ing on a plane would be " Arrival " and " Honey Honey " . I really enjoy the music on Voulez-Vous album. The music sounds fantastic even 45 years later. The melody on "I have a dream" is irresistible. In my country Austria, "I have a dream" hit #1 in February1980. The Album hit #2 in Austria in August 1979 and became a big success in Austria. In October 1979 ABBA played Vienna on their Tour in 1979. I discovered the album in 2001 when the album was re-released with bonus tracks. It was one of the first albums I bought from ABBA.I love all the songs on the album but "Angeleyes" is very fond to me.

Given that you say it was to be made here in Australia, perhaps they realised it might have been overexposure or a big flop. As it turned out, Australia suddenly turned off ABBA following the 1977 tour. It was dramatic - Arrival sold over 900,000 copies; The Album 50,000. The last number one here was Money Money Money. It suddenly became uncool to like ABBA, until the revival in 1992.

I agree with everything you said. It was always going to be an anticlimax without the four members there. Seeing the ABBAtars out of context freaked some people out. I was at a party and people started talking about how this illustrates the dangers of AI! Fortunately, the whole event was below par, so worse things happened and I doubt it will impact on the popularity of the Voyage show. But I bet Bjorn and Benny were both irritated by the presentation and relieved they weren't a physical part of it!

Absolutely delighted, they didn't contribute to this monstrosity. Being there, would have been an absolute disgrace to their legacy. While always being part of the gay party scene, deservedly so, ABBA in the context of nowadays ESC, would be ridiculously out of character. ESC as identity contest without music, is worthless, sensless and dead!

Such a shame this project was cancelled, 5 year old me would've loved this (and adult me too!!) As it was an Australian single and one of my absolute favourite ABBA songs, I'd have loved I've Been Waiting For You to get the cartoon video treatment.

I really don't see the point or purpose of this rant. I really don't. When the hosts introduced Alcazar on stage they were simply playing the audience for laughs by inplying that ABBA were about to appear-lighten up

Thank you for confirming plans for more Voyage venues on earth. It's good to know we don't have to travel interstellar LOL. Love all your updates. Was hoping for Sydney but will settle for Melbourne. I live near Sydney so much more affordable to get to Melbourne than London. However I still might go ahead with plans to see it in London then pop over to Sweden to visit the ABBA museum and all the wonderful things Stockholm has to offer too. 🙂

I am in Australia, and ,, those 3 "singers" at the end spoilt it............The winner was hideous. Not even music...I was embarrassed for the dude.........give me 1974 again please. I didn't watch any of the Eurovision, ( we dont get it 'live' anyway ) only saw snippets, but if that is called "music",,,,,,,,,,,,,forget it !!!!

The cartoon is well known and not rare. In addition, the cartoon is extremely poorly made, even at that time there were better quality ones.

Being made in Australia, I would love to have Bang a Boomerang in the show.

I wonder if they would have animated 'The Girl With The Golden Hair' mini musical, if the show had made it into late 1977, around the time ABBA the album was released. I could see a lot of the Waterloo album making it into the show like 'Sitting in the Palm Tree' and 'King Kong Song', As they are very story driven songs and light for a Cartoon Audience. I don't know if the show would have made it further then the Super Trooper era. As the Visitors era probably would have got a bit too adult for a young audience and ABBA's popularity in Australia started to really drop after Super Trouper. 'The Piper' would have been a great song for a show like this with it's fairy tale vibes and 'Eagle' would have been a really well realised video I think in animated form.

Bobby’s brother, maybe you could do an episode about ABBA and children’s shows. They did a couple of UK children’s shows, Blue Peter was one of them. The other was a United States kid show in the New York City area called Wonderama. There must be some kind of marketing ploy here they want to reach young children and teenagers obviously. That is why the cartoon makes a lot of sense. Have you sensed that they wanted to reach very young people as well as adults?
