To find the value of aiming putt from under a string and see how many you make. That is when you are going to find out that is the least of your problems. OK, you gotta start someplace. But when that does not work either it is time to start looking in to how to putt. Start by finding Ben Creshaw videos.

Stepping back from your ball to check your alignment is huge. I rarely see players do this. It is pure luck if you are lining up your ball crouched over it and looking up and down. You need to step back and recheck the alignment otherwise you are just guessing. I adjust my ball most of the time by stepping back. I have drastically improved my putting. It does t slow down play. What slows down play is three putting. Picking the right break and speed is what I am working on now.

I did buy the Honu putter, but I was not too fond of the New Zealand putter grip; when I put the putter down on the ground, the grip forced the putter face to be wide open, so I changed the putter grip with the new Golf Pride Reverse Grip pistol grip which fixed the opening up the putter face-just sharing. The guys I play golf with are having a lot of fun at the look of the head.

how do you know how far to aim outside the hole when it breaks

Rule 10.B.2 prohibits the alignment aid marker. We have had this discussion many times in Australia. If you do this at my club you will incur a 2 shot penalty. If you do it again you will be disqualified from the match. Balls may be marked. But No one will ever use this alignment marker in professional competition. It is considered cheating. I do not feel you are a cheat. Rule 10.B.2 is often overlooked. Many also feel that a professional golf company would not lead anyone astray, whereas I believe they make mistakes also, and without any deceitful intent. Alignment aids like adjustable ball markers are an instrument of alignment and are in my opinion against the spirit of golf and against the rules. Loved your video though, and I learned a few things. Hi John Thanks ,I only found your channel a few weeks ago and love the content, you have mentioned a few times about the tour read system for putting, i have had a look an its an app on the i phone with subscription thats ok, ( I am Aim scope based ) you have mention tour read system is quickler and maybe more accuracy, I have had a look at the app on line and see how it works with distance and it gives you a line to Aim based on the level of the phone IE: (6 inches out side the hole form 6 feet ) but when you play a round you only know one distance? as you cannot use the phone, So how do you get the missing value ( the Line ) if you have any videos links with you it would be appreciated , thanks for your time cheers Mal (AUS)

Hi John, I am a senior lady golfer who is a big fan of your videos. You break down points very clearly and provide drills for improving. This summer one of my goals is to spend less time on driving range and more on putting green. Most of my improvement could come from putting better especially lagging closer to the whole. One thing I left out here is that our speed and distance is often bad because our green read is bad and we end up pushing and pulling because we miss read the green and that affects our speed

I use left hand low or putt cross handed, do you think the kotahi grip works for left hand low?

This works for me sometimes...my issue is I feel like I'm rushing to get to my set up. It does work when I take my time, I just don't want to slow my group. I guess I need to get more comfortable with setting up...fidgeting, while others are reading and getting ready to put.

Ball placement under dominant eye or non?

If I have groves that are damaged, dented in, scratched across the insert face etc. Does it matter? Is there a way to use a groove sharpener to repair putter grooves or some other tool?

My scores would improve by 6 strokes if I could make 3 foot putts. Great tips.

The so-called plumb bob green reading involves the use of a straight line (usually a straight putter shaft) projected on to the line from ball to hole. The putter does not have to be plumb to find this line (as in deChambeau) and the putter head and taper are irrelevant (deChambeau holds his putter in both hands just above the head). If the putter has a straight shaft, it is straight no matter which way the head is turned.

Great video on putting

Here is what I found doing much the same thing. I practiced 6 foot putts under a string every day. The string is to get level consistency only and take any break out. I got to be making 50 or more in a row and I would go home. When I came back the next day, I would start out missing 6 to 8 out of 10 every time. I knew if I could figure out why this happens I would be a good putter. And I finally did figure it out. When practicing timing takes over. Hitting putt after putt with only a few seconds in between strokes caused the putter to be square to the target at impact due to timing alone. You make everything. But that does not hold up after 5 minutes or so. Then I found out that if I RELEASED (swing) the putter blade this does not happen. When you give up control of the putter it stays square all by itself. Ahhhh.... You were right Ben Crenshaw and later Tiger Woods. You have to get an ultra-light grip. a big flat topped grip, and give up control of the putter. Timing means nothing under that scenario. You are taking yourself out of the putt. Very little else is important. Some of these guys today even move all over the place as they stroke. It does not reflect down into the putter blade angle when it is already released.

I love how in life, people who know absolutely nothing about putting make videos telling people how to do something they cannot do themselves. All top putters will tell you, "you have to GIVE UP CONTROL of the putter in order to get control of the putter". It is at the heart of the Ben Crenshaw's ultra-light grip and something every touring pro uses today.... THE RELEASE. The principle is that you take yourself out of the putt. A putter under it's own momentum has exactly ZERO propensity to twist. So top putters work on staying perpendicular to the tilted plane of the shaft and RELEASING the putter. The big flat topped Super Stoke type grip helps them do that. It's also why many pros throw away a putter with poor balance. Tiger's right hand only drill is a great way to learn a nice release as well.

Great videos. Can you help me attain a honu putter. Preferable used cut new is also fine. My putting style is straight back and thru. Right to left bias. I use a claw grip with light pressure. Concerned more about speed control. 33 to 33.5 inches. I know I need to stand closer to the ball to ensure my eyes are over the ball, working on that with a putter mirror. Re: learning to trust your line at address. Have you done the exercise / made a video where you place 3 tees in a known straight line (20' span perhaps) and then address a ball at the first moving your eyes until your brain agrees with the line? Can do different distances. I hate when I get over the ball and feel like the line on the ball is pointed wrong. Happens more on side slopes.

Absolutely makes a difference! Mindset is everything in golf.
