The F-14 Tomcat is an Absolute Legend
The F-14 Tomcat is a fighter plane of legend, made famous by the movie Top Gun. In this absolute legend, we delve into this iconic plane, what happened to it, and what could have been?
Grumman's F-14 was given a raw deal by a politician looking to get revenge on his enemy, leaving the US to make do with the F-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, neither of which could fill the shoes of the Tomcat.

The taking of the 4 guns at Brecourt, prepared on the spot by Dick Winters, has been taught ever since in American Paramilitary and special service training. These 4 large guns were trained directly onto Utah Beach. On the reconnasaince maps, because they were so well hidden by the Germans. After Winters' platoon, and another led by Lt. Compton took three guns almost by complete surprise, the 4th was taken as Ronald Speirs group of 3 took enemy combatants out, Speirs ran along the top of the trench drawing their fire before getting there first without obstacle and neutralizing the final two gunners. He narrowly avoided a grenade burst by kicking the potato masher grenade away. Fearless, disciplined, calculated and cold Lt. Colonel Ronald Speirs died in 2007. He took two more air drops in Korean War, leading his company, while being (unofficially) listed as a liason in Saigon Vietnam 63. His first wife wasn't a widow and Speirs was very angry about this portrayal in the book. Her fiancee was missing in action presumed dead. She decided to stay true to him when he was freed. Speirs called her the love of his life. He was married a total of 5 times. Each one of his family members (mostly children, stephchildren, grandchildren etc.) Speak upon him as a doting and loving man until the end. He was very close with dick winters as they had correspondence throughout their lives. It's fascinating btw. His mom and sisters called him "ronnie" and it was said he was an incredible athlete who's discipline and ability to compartmentalize (as told by the men of easy company) were unmatched

One of the lessons learned from WWII, and honed through the 20th century, is to treat war like work. At least in the U.S., soldiers and Marines are trained to do their jobs, even in the face of fear. We aren't heroes, or legends, or anything like that. We go to work, just like anyone else. it's just that sometimes, people are shooting back. War today is asymmetric, and heroism like we saw in those days of the Great Powers is rare. It should be rare.

Clearly there was a huge population of Bigfeet in the area and they were very angry that a human settlement was in their backyard. Maybe that final event in 1949 that scared everyone off was like a whole gang of Hairy Men strolled into town and started knocking heads. I mean, clearly something happened that day or that night that scared whatever townspeople were left to the point where they just left immediately.

Éamon de Valera was not spared because of him being an American citizen, the Americans indicated that the most they could do was to ensure had a proper trial, which he got. Yeah, sold out Saudi Arabia with the French after the Great War in 1918. Established Isreal. That's worked out well for the Middle East. Before that, there Boer war. 1899 to 1902. Want to know who originally started concentration camps ? Ask the Boers. By the way, I'm Irish American. My ancestors are here because of England. Oh yeah, beat England in 1781 Yorktown. Oh yeah, burned our capital in 1812. Beat England in that one too . Also, you heard of Lend Lease? Still waiting for the payment on thar. Great job in Singapore in 1942. 3 to 1 odds against the Japanese. Brits still gave up. Look up what Churchhill said about that. Oh, it was Americans who beat the Japanese. Should know, still have my grandfather' helmet. And another, great gob at Caen in 1944. Supposed to take it on D-Day. Didn't take it until D plus 33. England is famous for it's Navy. I agree, England is an anchor. Drag you right down.
