- Audie L. Murphy was the embodiment of the cliché, 'don't judge a book by its cover!' Audie Murphy was that book.
In this episode, we take a deep dive into the unbelievable acts of heroism that he routinely displayed. He was the most decorated US Soldier of WWII, gifted with an uncommon valor and a tough Grit.
Murphy lived a hard life. He lost both of his parents when he was only young.
Audie is a Texas legend.

Audie, a most wonderful good ole Texas boy. Much love and many hugs, Audie.
And Duke, thank you for honoring this wonderful man.
He was a legend! Texas through and through. Thank you, Valerie. I appreciate the support.
My 4 year old son loves Audie Murphy thanks to the Sabaton song about him. I recently took him to Arlington National Cemetery to visit Audies grave. He was so proud and happy to be there and salute him and leave a penny.
That is so heartwarming! I'm happy to hear the kids are learning about this hero. Your son is a little legend. God Bless him. I wish i could have visited Audie's grave. I hope I will some day.
Appreciate your time to pay tribute to a true American hero, on the field and in the battle of life.
I appreciate you taking the time to watch, Timmy. And to comment. Thanks, man.
Don't make them like this man, any more!!!❤💯
Audie Murphy, true example of bravery and the saying that it's not the size of the dog of the dog, but the size of the heart within the dog that makes his bite bigger than life!
Yep! Audie is my War Master!
I served in Vietnam he was my inspiration as a young boy that got me to join at 17 knowing what I know as a older man Murphy was a he'll of a man or reached point of I just don't care either way he was my hero.
Thanks for serving, popig. Vietnam. Narley one that. Some rough country. Yeah, I think when Audie lost his mother, a part of him welcomed the thoughts of going to be with her. Must have gave him calm in the face of that chaos.
Duke, you keep knocking them out of the park. While this man has largely been forgotten by the people of this era, he was an incredible human being who was wildly successful at everything he put his hand to. An amazing man with huge, cast iron balls, who was taken from us far too soon. Once again, thank you for this.
Haha. Happy you enjoyed it, Dick. Yeah, these men were made of special stuff. He did everything with the fullness of his heart. Legend.
He was a very gifted individual.. that gave all of himself.
Knock off count dankula
Yet another KICK-ASS Tribute to a TRUE BAD-ASS!! Little Audy Murphy was and still IS a LEGEND!!
I love the guy. True grit!
👉💥👈 I never realized he was so heavily decorated, as said it's all about the man next to you, brothers in arms.
I grew up being taught to understand P.T.S.D, after the war, their were so many mentally wounded souls, back in civilian life.
Love your channel ❤️😎❤️
and you bet Bro, not one step backward, holding the line, taking care of business ....... 👍
Yeah, Nick. I couldn't believe it when reading through his decorations and actions. Grew up with Audie. But had no idea the extent of what he did.
Love you, Nick! Thanks for shouting out, pal!.
Rest In Peace Audie.
Murphy was completely devastated by the treacherous death of his best friend Lattie Tipton; he knew it was an enemy trick from the beginning and begged Lattie to get down right up until Lattie was shot. After the action he held Lattie's body in his arms and cried. From that point on, Murphy changed. He got dark and cold-blooded. He went on a killing spree -- his mission of vengeance and payback for Lattie -- for the rest of the war. He said that he had no regrets about that and that he had "HATED Germans." After Murphy died, all of his medals were recovered except for his Distinguished Service Cross which he was awarded for the action in which Lattie Tipton was killed. Turns out it hadn't been lost or stolen -- Audie had given it to Lattie's daughter in honor and tribute to Lattie. He apparently had said that Lattie deserved it more than he did. Two other things about Murphy -- #1. he grew up absolutely dirt poor in Texas; for a time the family lived in an abandoned railroad boxcar. #2. Murphy was preternaturally unafraid in combat. His brother was later asked why that was. His brother said he wasn't sure, but he said having bullets going very close by didn't bother Audie much because when they were kids they used to play shooting games with real guns where they would shoot apples off each other's heads or stand sideways holding a book pretending to read while someone shot the book out of their hand! 🤯 Fortunately nobody was apparently ever hit. Those "games" also might account in part for Murphy's marksmanship.
Amazing. I am always learning something new about this Legend. He's too big a man for a 20 mins video. Was there anything this man couldn't do?
Hi ya Duke! It's Mark B under a new handle!! Good to see you back on the rifles, Devil Dog! When i want to quit CZcams, i see content makers with heart like you( you are number 1 on the the list of the best) and i decide to stay on. Audie Murphy is very special to me. He was from the same part of Texas of where i'm from, my dad served in the 3rd in the late 50's early 60's, known as a hot patch of a Zebra'a ass, and i served with the 36th Infantry Division in Kosovo after i left the Marines. All my life, us kids would fight over who was going to be A.M. when playing guns!! Thank you so much for spotlighting the Tex of all Texans in the unique awesome way that only the Duke can pull off. You are on another level!! Keep riding tall in the saddle, it's a great pleasure to see you again, Honcho!! 👍👍
Mark! What a relief! Thought we'd lost ya there for a while. You and your unique commenting was missed. Glad to see you back. The new handle is sweet!
I appreciate the kind words, man. Thank you. I'm glad there are people like you who get it out there on the tubes.
Audie is a special human being. What a beast.
You're a Texan? Figures! I was fortunate enough to live in Texas for a while. Midland. Long story. I got to see a lot of your amazing state. Some of the nicest people I have ever met were Texans. Credit to the states!
@@TheDukeOfDankness Thank ya trail boss!! I wont ask what you are going through, but know my circle and I are praying hard for you and yours, Compadre!!

Duke, i',m 100000% stoked to see your click growing like wild fire. OOOOORAHHH!!! You deserve all the best, the hardest working Scene Slinger there is, I tell ya what!! Get Some!!👍👍
Another great video. I didn't know that Audie Murphy weighed only 112 pounds when he enlisted in the Army. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog that counts. Fightin' Irish.

Thanks brother! Yeah, man...that's as light as a feather. Good to see you back. Was checking out your blogs, man. Some life!
@@TheDukeOfDankness When I think on all of the firefights that Audie Murphy was in and how he was never killed--it was definitely the hand of God that protected him. Some guys just can't be killed in battle. Even Douglas MacArthur back in World War I was on a patrol with some of his men in No Man's Land. This German machine gun opened up on them and they hit the dirt. After the machine gun stopped, MacArthur crawled over to his men and they were all dead. That really shook him to core. He knew that the Lord protected him for some reason. MacArthur went on to be a general during World War II and the Korean War.
Here is a short war story I heard when I was hitchhiking in Wyoming:
29 July 2005
"This past week I got a ride from Dubois to Riverton [Wyoming] with a guy who had an uncle who
fought in World War II. He was a pilot of a B-17 or B-25 and he flew 29 missions
over Japan. On one mission the flak was very bad and it took all of his
concentration to fly the bomber over the target. He was able to deliver his bomb
load and then he turned back to the base. He then turned to his co-pilot and saw
that the co-pilot’s face was blown off. He later landed the plane and discovered
that the entire crew had been killed during the mission. There were 57 bullet
holes in his windshield. It was the hand of God that protected him in battle."
I made my Badger comment before I finished the vid. Your statement about what it takes to hold a Nation together was brilliant. Hold the line brother.
ALways gonna hold that line, brother. I don't even know what a Murphy Badger is though. :-D

As a horse crazy kid who watched good old westerns Audie Murphy was a favorite. Now as an adult I can just marvel at this man. Lost too soon in a tragic accident. What he could has contributed to today's war torn world in morals ,ethics and understanding of the damage war does.

In 1980, I was enrolled in the OCS program at the Texas Army National Guard's Schoolhouse For The Soldier. We were instilled with reverence for this man, who was the personal hero of many of us. My class, number Two Eight, through donations and fundraiser projects, raised money for the "Follow Me!" bronze statue of 'Saint Audie' which stands on a stone pedestal at the entrance of the Education Office.
Our class yell was "Oh Cee Two Eight, Duty! Honor! Country! State!"
God Bless Audie Murphy indeed!
You do a great job in paying tribute to true heroes... I'm grateful for what you do.. I hope the good Lord helps you through troubled times. God Bless You.

Love your videos, I’ve never been in the military, only recently retired in 2021 ,after 37 years ,as a metro cop.
Nice, Jester. Glad you love the vids man. It makes it worth while. 37 years as a metro cop?! I'd say you seen some crazy stuff during that time!
@@TheDukeOfDankness
I was shot in 11/11/1994 & 08/09/2003. I never took a life, but was involved in numerous shootings. I was deliberately ostracized, for not returning fire the first time in 1994 & in 2003, I barely received assistance from one cop, who wasn’t even running code & arrived like he was incidentally patrolling my district, while watching me bleed out from 4 in the back & 3 in the chest & abdomen. However, I’ve never been in the military, yet in law enforcement you can never admit PTSD, melancholy, or “catch 22” of accepting psychological help, that’s the genuine “Kiss of Death” in law enforcement. You’ll be placed as a paper pusher & will have your issued sidearm & shield taken away & be the brunt of all jokes. If, they allow to do your 20 until retirement? Your videos are extremely inspiring & I always watch every one, as well as send them to my three kids , who are all lobbyists in the East Coast. All three tell me to keep sending them your videos. Thank you, young fella, for your brilliant illustrations & thorough research.
@@jesterflight8593 are you serious?! You were shot that many times in Central mass and still survived? Twice? You're like the Terminator man. Made of tough stuff!
Yeah, man. I hear ya on the sidearm and shield. They do tend to stigmatise these things after certain events.
Really? You send on my vids to your kids? I am very grateful, Jester. Really helps me out. I also find these people inspiring. They raise the bar. I love their examples.
@@TheDukeOfDankness
In 1994, only one wasn’t stopped by my issued American armor threat level III, entered my left arm, exited then entered as a shallow wound in my lower lobe of my left lung. I was back at work in 19 days.
On 08/09/2003 I was in dress uniform without a vest, because I had court. We were not required to wear a internal vest if we were tied up in court. I got into nutty gunfight @ 6:57am while having breakfast, never fired a shot since it was full of patrons & spent 21 days less than a year in the hospital after 16 surgeries & still carry fragments in my L-4 L-5. There is so much covert SOP rhetoric civilians will never know about, because of the extremely “Slippery Slope” “ Catch 22” regarding LEOs who do not personify the stereotype stoic cop from historical nostalgic methodology. My father, grandfather, brothers, cousins were all cops, thus when I graduated the academy in 1984, we were literally issued a slapper ( Billyclub), so we hardly ever shot anyone since once they began to scuffle, they’d catch a slapper across the cranium, and get knocked down enough to cuff & frisk. Additionally, we carried 6 shot S&W 686 revolvers with only a 12 loop bandalero on our Sam Brown duty belt, so we were trained to always count our rounds in two & reload two from our loops. We were never trained to spray & pray that projectiles would hit the actor. I didn’t have to convert to a Sig P-229 40 cal until 2006, because a new chief, would no longer allow the old fellas a deferment to continue with the issued revolvers. Additionally, I was used to the dash cam in the patrol cars, but I never certified with the tazer, because I had a Dr excuse that I could react with a heart attack, if I had to go through tazer training, since my heart had to be jump started 11 times the day I was shot with 11 rounds. None of the veteran LEOs were used to badge cams, so a huge influx of veterans retired early. Thanks for listening to my “has been” rhetoric, don’t ever waste your time listening to old retired cops, because they never shut up about “ the good ole days”. Your WW2 vids are really great, I lost 3 uncles in the Pacific theatre, so I really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for your time sir.
Murphy wasn't As Big As A Minute.....But he had Balls the size of Basketballs and made of Solid Iron.
Coming up very poor & near Subsistence, "Catch As Catch Can" Living but in spite of his Hard Scrabble existence, Audie Loved America and did what he could to prove his love of country multiple times
A Bad Ass...Yes, Absolutely
A Hero...Undoubtedly
A Patriot....Oh Hell Yes
We are Blessed to have men such as this among our Fighting Troops.
He suffered from PTSD and for the rest of his life, slept in his Garage to Protect his Family....From Himself & slept with a loaded 1911 45ACP under his pillow.
He Lived A Warrior's Life and displayed that Heroism his Entire Life.
He died much too young in a Civilian Plane Crash
So ended the life of America's Most Decorated Hero
They'd have had to come up with other and new Medals to honor the "Little Man From Texas".
Small in stature, but A Giant Among Men....That was Audie Murphy
With the Undying Gratitude & Respect of a Grateful America and All Americans

I can't thank you enough for you extensive research and dead on narration. As you already know, I hope. I hold down your Pittsburgh faction little brother. Sorry to hear you may have gone through a rough patch. I'll up my membership to help. Two last things. Isn't "Once more into the breach" from an old English play ? Also, I loved your point about today's cupcakes with Liberal professors spouting anti-patriotic rhetoric. The rioters in the US always turn and run when confronted. My dad and three uncles served in WWII. One of my favorite lines is from a favorite Irish fighter of mine in the 80's. Barry McGuiggan (sic) ? After winning a fight, he would say in that thick Irish accent, "Ah, The bastard needed a good shellackin', so I rapped him from the word go".
Ah Michael, my brother. How are you keeping, man? The Pittsburgh faction is going strong in that case👍 I'm grateful, man.
Yeah, tough breaks. Lost many loved ones recently, including my Father.
