    His video is so full of shit it's not funny. Yes, SL has a "dark" side to it, but like she said, you have to go looking for it. They way I describe it, SL is sort of like The Sims on steroids where behind each character is a person controlling it live. The Sims is PG, but also has some light adult content on it (censored nudity and "woohoo". Outside of the base game and DLC, there are tons of graphic adult user-created mods you can find and download if you're into that sort of thing. If not, you don't *have* to. You can choose to play PG or adult, whatever. The adult stuff was NEVER blatantly shoved in my face. The whole point of SL is make it your own adventure whatever that adventure is. The entire world, everything from the avatars (except for the initial one they give you of course) right down to the flowers and scenery is created by the users. I've been in SL for over 10 years now. I've met people from around the world, and many have become some of my closest friends even outside of SL.

    Non-letter symbols can be used to put folders to the top or bottom of their system folder. This is why creators use them in their shop names. They're trying to get their store LM to the top of your LM folder.

    I tell newbies not to go Premium right away, because many of them might not want to stay in SL. Once they're decided they like SL, then an annual Premium membership with a Linden Home is the way to go. $ 40 is enough to get a nice mesh avatar & head, but it has to be a body that has plenty of free clothes - Maitreya or LucyBody for girls, Belleza Jake for guys. After that, you can get plenty of free & sale stuff inworld.

    Agree with 80 % of this. The most important thing is certainly, IMO, taking your take at the welcome HUB, or whatever it's called these days, and absord as much info as possible. Read the posters, the info cards, go through the newb portals etc etc, and learn and absord there. New users tend to be far too impatient at first and often regret it later. And yes, learn basic Inventory management and file structure. You will thank yourself for it later. Regarding PCs for SL: I suspect most are not rig builders or even desktop users anymore, but rather laptop buyers. PLEASE make sure the mid-range laptop you're considering has a dedicated GPU, not an integrated one. And here, the Forums can actually be rather helpful.

    Here’s my opinion on it, warning it might be unpopular đŸ€Ł but it’s meant with love! Coming from a creator and a consumer of products in secondlife, I don’t personally think anyone will ‘rely’ on hud based shopping events, I think it’s just another type of event. People will still shop at normal events AND hud based ones at the same time! I think the more options for everyone, the better. I like the feeling of choosing if I want to walk around to shop, or do a few clicks. And I do enjoy the variety on the creator side aswell. If one month I want to be in a simple hud based event, I can. Maybe the next month I will want to be in a inworld one, either way the choice is mine and the keyword is choice ✹ Also on the topic of is it beneficial to have so many new events, I think it is! The good far out ways any bad, again in my opinion. New events, or sales offer creators another space to show their unique creations in a new theme / environment, it gives customers a new place to shop for new products (I know more than half of my friends always ask after they are done looking at the first few events if anyone has or knows more) and it’s even better if the event is a sales event because who don’t love a good sale? LOL ! Long story short I think it’s amazing to see new creators and events popping up and living their best SecondLife trying to create new and unique things to bring to the grid! đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€đŸ€

    • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum Pƙed dnem

      These days, I'm pretty selective about events. I mostly skim through a few sales, hunting for props for my videos. If it's not from a creator I follow on Flickr or spotted in a Facebook group, it's likely to fly under my radar. Who's got time to hit every single event? Unless you're not working and have a wallet deeper than the Mariana Trench, it's just not feasible. And even if you could manage it, when would you find time to unpack and actually use all those purchases? We're talking more than three events a day, every month. It's madness! Don't get me wrong, I see your points. But adding more events? That's like trying to solve a traffic jam by adding more cars. At the end of the day, though, Second Life needs all sorts of people - the shopaholics, the casual browsers, and even the hermits who never leave their skyboxes. It takes all types to keep our virtual world spinning.

    I've been in SL since 2006. todays SL is about forming groups I find, people who identify with ones own needs and values. If someone is creative or if there's simply in second life to just communicate and make friends and even if people are into the same niche hobbies or not. I think Second Life through the years has evolved but it is still valuable to keep exploring and meeting new people till you don't sit still.

    being a creator is secondlife is really difficult. There's a lot of competition and it can be really challenging making sales especially if you are running a store on your own without staff or even managers to help you. As a creator in secondlife myself one of the worst experiences I had once was a girl who messaged me swearing at me and telling me to stop giving her stuff. what she was doing was touching my midnight madness boards and therefore she was getting alot of gifts and prizes for free. I kindly said to her that if she doesn't want the prizes and free items simply don't touch the boards then. Though yes there was no need for this 1 girl to give me loads of grief when she was at fault and she had the choice with touching those boards. Thankfully not all customers are bad but it is sad when you get complaints over items you are giving away for free.

    Just gave the post a read SL has been a part of my life ever since 2006 While I do agree with the first part both you and the creator expressed. As for the rest... The times I've read a blog post can be counted with a single hand, same goes with going to shopping events, it's no surprise for me to find out they are not useful to him, as they are not useful for me either as a customer. I'd dare to even say that shopping events are anti-customer given how some products are exclusive and will be gone after the event is done. Strangely enough if you ask the creator nicely they will sell said products to you on private most of times... So, once more kindness triumphs.

    718 is one of those who are not on the customer's side. They permanently banned a person, who was in a reborn, because of Height, they felt she didn't look adult enough at 5'8" and having boobs bigger than her head and a big butt. They broke no ToS, the new ToS was not broken either. They denied them service for have a Daddy Dom and putting it in her picks, which they consider ageplay but it's not ageplay in Linden Eyes. She isn't petite like me, which is also not child, and she isn't short like me, which height is not looked at as age in Linden eyes. This woman was the standard sexual beauty in second life, the thing mostly everyone makes their body to be and was kicked and permanently banned.

I think just hate on certain avis who look good and better than they avi.

    I was probably lucky, but as a designer I have never met rude clients. Instead, I have met opinionated and offensive bloggers. In any case, everyone has their own experience. My difficulty is linked to the fact that, if you don't participate in events, you don't sell instore. And unfortunately I have difficulty with timelines. It's very true: Linden Lab should support creators more and remember that, in other virtual environments like Inzoe that is about to be released, the world is created by the company and the users. Second Life is created mostly by users in everything: destinations, items, covers and heads, scripts etc. Every aspect is created by us, so the costs should be significantly reduced. I don't hide that I'm evaluating other platforms: if I have to spend so much to have fun, maybe it's better to migrate elsewhere.

    About Faire - I agree these Gifts.. I dont care about. For new people its maybe great, but new and exclusives gifts are way over the top. Also the exclusiv things.. as customer I HATE IT. Mostly i dont buy not to support FOMO shit. It needs than realy realy touch my heart to break that rule. (iam also just a human xD) . I as a Customer --> mostly when I had an Issue, I was friendly, and got friendly response! - Also I send creators messages in case their Demos are not working or some sale items in boths not working. They are happy that someone told them! - and I feel happy to helped them. - So in that way, help each other in first place and all will be better in our Worlds.

      I rarely pick up gifts unless the creator has made something unique and advertised it. Most of the time, it's just rehashed old stuff. This video clearly has an agenda lol. I wish there was that many people in second life who are " just being themselves " but there's not . Almost everyone in second life is subconsciously role playing as the person they wish they were , rather than who they actually are . They ARE playing a game and when their negative traits form rl bleed into second life , they re roll and try again as someone else. Then repeat .

I'm on every day, and I've been active in all kinds of communities. Yeah it has sexual content, and it's darker sides, but so do a lot of platforms. And like you said, you actually have to go looking for it In SL. I really hate videos like that where they depict second life residents as these dark, sad, lonely messed up perverts because it's really not like that at all. There's a lot of creativity, support, and community wrapped up in all of it that makes up the majority of the experience.

    Yes, there is too many sales and events. It wouldnt be problem if those were theme focused but all are mixed and even prize levels are kind of same, 50-100L . So sometimes is hard to even remember what event or sale you look bc all are same looking. There is only few what are bit different: home decor and male themed ones, hair fair / lately gets more and more mix themed/ fantasy fair and few more....other are same old same old. What makes it even worse is that some creators rotate in row same item thru all events and sales. That makes you feel that nothing new is to see or buy. MP sales are ok if you want get smth from creator whom style and quality you know well but doesnt work well for less known creators. And MP sales should be in middle of week, when people have less time to log into SL and are browsing on break time or on way home. Hud sales should be more newcomer oriented bc yes if you are new you dont have collection of LMs and you havent found all your favorite creators yet and sometimes finding shop what has items you want is hard then. Later, when you already have SL expierence, HUD shoping is not so interesting or helpful. Ther should be rule that events and sales must have smth what makes them unique, is it theme or prize. SL S&H event tries be somewat selective and sims try be themed but it isnt very successful, also S&H seems not have quality control, outdated item creators should have their own sim or area like this year sdult themed items creators had. Would save lot of time to lot of people and actully allow to go around and browse shops what interest. Now there is too many sims with mixed stuff for that. Shoping should be just one tiny side of SL not whole expierence of it. More and more i hear that people just shop quickly and go home to unbox and try stuff and take snapshots....alone...and that is all what they do in SL. It might be good for SL economy but it is bad for SL in general.

    Half the people "show friends only" while at shopping events and a lot of sales happen on mp anyways. Can't you think of other places where people show off fashion other than at shopping events where people are focused on camming the products, not the people? You can show off fashion at clubs, live singers, & other performance events. Camming shopping events and waiting for objects to load is also more tedious than seeing textures load on a hud

    I would like to see a book i could leave on the table in my SL home, click on it and it opens up, each page is a TP link to a different store, with a few catalogue style pictures of what they offer. nothing directly for sale in the book. vendors could pay for ad space to get people in their store.

      You can create one in SL for itself or for your guests. Creating book with turning pages and links in them is easy.

    Bonjour Prisqua, thank you for raising this topic and giving argument to think about. I came in SL in 2007 and i have to admit that i like my old fashion shopping, moving around, discovering places and rather approaching board and sticking my avatar face in the advertisement then using my camera to zoom in & out. I just like the feeling of evolving around this virtual world and as you said, discovering what people have been able to achieved with their own creativity. So personally, i m not at all fond of the idea of using any sort of Huds for shopping, unless it is a HUD that was there to list brands per category so you can just click and get a LM to venture those shops that would suit your style taste. Coming to social part of SL, it is a fact it changed, people were more open to discuss then and it slowly slided into some sort of silent gathering where initiating a discussion is almost seen as "creep". In the end, you feel like you are all alone in middle of a crowded place and it feels bad & wrong. Did people built walls around them and lost the meaning of socializing? I believe at the moment, people got used to be their own all alone in their little safe world and they do not care much about exploring and meeting other people. They idealize their avatars and are just looking to customize it the way they want, whatever the way it is used. So be it a HUD, if they don't want to walk around, this will be perfect for them so they can just hangout around displaying the new clothings of the moment while saving time going to a virtual shop designed with passion and time. As a rookie creator, i would really hate that HUD system become main way to shop, for i enjoy to build and create things i can then expose to travelers. Second life is an open door to creativity, limiting shopping to pictures on a HUD is the sadest way to explore it. This is of course my own point of view, and so no truth, just giving my 2 cents. I wish you all a great experience through Second life.

      "So personally, i m not at all fond of the idea of using any sort of Huds for shopping, unless it is a HUD that was there to list brands per category so you can just click and get a LM to venture those shops that would suit your style taste." That is exactly what the HUD does on the Brands section. You can click Cosmetics, or Decor, or Shoes and it brings up a list of stores under that category with links to buy the items directly or teleport to their store. The HUD is about giving shoppers alternative options not stopping anyone from shopping how they choose to - be that mainstores, marketplace or events but having another option to add to the mix. Also, there are thousands of new and upcoming brands that find it incredibly challenging to get into events of any kind. Events on the HUD give them the opportunity and flexibility to start their own events without the huge event start up costs and help to build their smaller, less well-known brands.

    I refuse to buy anything from a HUD, as well as MP usually. I want to see it, demo it, see the scale and colors in person etc. It would drive me crazy to sit somewhere and be lazy clicking a HUD. Nothing is really worth much lately anyway, people are not creative anymore like they used to be.

    I make models and build in the game. I like to fish, do hunts, role play and explore. I do well when trying to avoid the adult locations. It used to be harder. I must say, the game is better now. I have met really amazing people in SL. There are 3 or 4 creators that have been really good friends to me. Have done a lot to help me enjoy the game. Helped me learn how to make my own things and even give me lots of support and patience. Even linden! I have been capable of surrounding myself with some of the kindest, most loving individuals. I only hope to pay them all back over my time in the game. Love you all. <3

    I had a friend fallout with me once purely because I left her group and she took it personally. Had to explain to her that I was just so desperate for group space. It hurts so much to have to keep leaving groups to make room and join others that are mandatory for playing games in secondlife. I play lindo and it is so annoying that so many places make it mandatory to join their group otherwise you can't play the lindo game to earn the lindens. Then there's clubs and stores that all want you to join their groups too. It is bad when stores put on group join fees too and it makes me feel trapped when it says that i'd have to pay the fee again to rejoin if i decide to leave those ones.

      Thank you so much for sharing your story! I totally get it-getting group invites from friends can be a bit tricky, especially when you have to turn them down because there are other groups that might suit your needs better. By that, I mean groups with a clear purpose, like ones for store discounts or events where you can score some gifts. We can't really avoid joining groups; they're just a part of the Second Life experience. The "Second Life Group Crisis" is definitely something a lot of us face!

    I think that as long as the people using the older bodies respect creator's time and effort, they will be respected and not laughed at. Creators "laugh" at the original maitreya lara users because of their attitude towards creators, similar to what the OP of the post displayed. Making demands of creators without understanding what those demands entail is why they are mocked by many on social media. They only deserve as much respect as they give back.

      I wonder if it is a stigma from RL where people don’t realise what it takes to create anything. My mother made my clothes when I was young. When I wanted her to make me an outfit, it wasn’t instant. Also, my sister and I are different in shape, size, and style, so there was no easy way to do it quickly. Most consumers in SL have no idea of the time and energy it takes to create for just one body. Then, you have to multiply that effort by the number of bodies a creator will support, whether they are doing it as a business or just for fun. So, yes, respect to them.

    Oh dear. :D I do love Second Life's adult stuff, but I love the moderate and PG too. It's such a creative, imaginative place... This guy COULD HAVE logged into an adult sim ONLY if he used a direct landmark to do it, which is possible these days. (I'd like to think that has something to do with my complaint some years back, that the SL welcome island is embarrassing and that I want to orient my own guests, thank you very much... Which is now made possible with simply sharing a LM.) Still, entering SL into an adult area like that would require the user to first set their viewer to adult mode before "accidentally" winding up in an adult sim. That said, if he finds THAT gruesome, he better buckle up. There truly is some fantastically awesome sick stuff on it. :D Still, we're all adults, and we can see the appeal even if it's not to our own, personal taste. It's fantastic the freedom to create whatever people are into exists and is virtually unlimited, as long as making such content is legal in general. In addition, to even take part in any kinkier adult games, you have to go through a lot of trouble to figure out how it's done. Nobody winds up "a victim" by accident. You need to download an RLV-enabled viewer, enable the viewer to show adult content, enable RLV from its settings, get an RLV relay, configure the RLV relay and other bits and bots, and then figure out how to use it and seek a location where getting victimized is possible. And for the rest of the adult stuff, the big red A in your viewer address bar should be a good clue that there's potentially some sketchy stuff around. His attitude is just puritanistic horse manure, as far as I'm concerned, as if adults couldn't choose what they do. That's what the 18-year limit is about anyway, so we have that 18 years to grow up and get to know ourselves and put limits on our own actions. Called being an adult. Maybe he hasn't tried that yet. Maybe he's fallen a victim of becoming the voice-over of some scandal-probing feminist who thought using a male voice-over AI bot would be a better idea for real gravitas.

    understand one computer server is needed to run one full sim however one computer server running homestead regions runs four regions not one. hence the math of 20,000 divided by four.

    • @secondlifespectrum
      @secondlifespectrum Pƙed 9 dny

      But Linden Lab manages 50,000 to 60,000 regions, so I’m unsure how the calculation of 20,000 divided by four applies in this context.
