    I've been in SL since '07 and yea I've popped into some of those adult regions, mostly out of curiosity. I'm not that interested in that sort of activity. I live a PG life style in SL. I'm a builder, and have found that I love to build and make new things out of created content and I love landscaping. The way that guy is presenting SL is rather twisted, IMHO.

    I casually get on secondlife every now and then, mostly to interact with the Avatar sims that are still going. Even with my limited exposure to the rest of secondlife outside of those sims, I could smell the bullshit from here. "You start secondlife in a dark alley" is one of the dumbest things I have heard in a while 😂If that's the truth, maybe VV needs to look at CJ and realize that was where they set their spawn point. I spawn in a Pandora themed forest with some wind chimes in my home and nature sounds playing all around me, some times I sit there and meditate because the vibes are so calm and relaxing. I guess some people just go out of their way to trash stuff for no reason because they don't have healthier ways to spend their time.

    I have been in SL 18 years. My land and shop are on a moderate rated sim. I have made it impossible to look at avatars on my parcel unless people are on my parcel. I texture clothes and sometimes am naked in my workspace. But live a very pg Second Life. There is no way someone brand new was dumped into a very kinky adult sim. Sounds more like someone made an alt, and gave the alt a landmark to that place.

    I make models and build in the game. I like to fish, do hunts, role play and explore. I do well when trying to avoid the adult locations. It used to be harder. I must say, the game is better now. I have met really amazing people in SL. There are 3 or 4 creators that have been really good friends to me. Have done a lot to help me enjoy the game. Helped me learn how to make my own things and even give me lots of support and patience. Even linden! I have been capable of surrounding myself with some of the kindest, most loving individuals. I only hope to pay them all back over my time in the game. Love you all.

    You get what you are looking for in Second Life. I have met so many amazing people. I have been to some places in Second Life that just blew my mind in the best way.
    Nearly everything in world is created by a player of the game.
    I have also been to places that where out of my comfort zone. Yes there are more adult areas but, the description of the place will have a warning. Also the landing area will have another warning. Kind of like a waiting room or door way before you enter the full area. Places that don't give warnings are criticized and might not last long.

      He hasn't logged into SL. He refers to a writer named CJ who filmed that video in a dark alley, which makes it out of context. If he had taken the time to create an account, as I did with IMVU, he would have understood. Or, perhaps he attempted to create an account, found it too complicated, and chose the dark alley scenario because it seemed to fit more with the vibes he was going for?

    This guy would have freaked out at the sight of the cages and strip poles found in a popular club that college kids used to go to that was just down Greek row. Seriously, no G rated Sim would have that stuff he was talking about. If it did, it would be in violation of ToS. A lot of MA to A rated sims and regions take it seriously, and even go stricter than LL, banning people if they are at a certain hight, or dressed and talked in certain ways that could be construed as age play. While some people may be intrigued by horror and other various themes, the Sim owners themselves do the best they can to make sure people are safe and can opt out of any situation they are uncomfortable with. But honestly, if you're not into adult material, nor into certain types of immersive RP, don't do it. There's plenty to explore in SL that isn't adult or mature.

    Thanks for clearing things up and talking about what Second Life really is. I've been in SL for almost 13 years now, and I consider it home. I'm on every day, and I've been active in all kinds of communities. Yeah it has sexual content, and it's darker sides, but so do a lot of platforms. And like you said, you actually have to go looking for it In SL. I really hate videos like that where they depict second life residents as these dark, sad, lonely messed up perverts because it's really not like that at all. There's a lot of creativity, support, and community wrapped up in all of it that makes up the majority of the experience.

  • @SebastyneAlpha
    @SebastyneAlpha Před 10 dny

    Oh dear. :D I do love Second Life's adult stuff, but I love the moderate and PG too. It's such a creative, imaginative place...
    This guy COULD HAVE logged into an adult sim ONLY if he used a direct landmark to do it, which is possible these days. (I'd like to think that has something to do with my complaint some years back, that the SL welcome island is embarrassing and that I want to orient my own guests, thank you very much... Which is now made possible with simply sharing a LM.)
    Still, entering SL into an adult area like that would require the user to first set their viewer to adult mode before "accidentally" winding up in an adult sim. That said, if he finds THAT gruesome, he better buckle up. There truly is some fantastically awesome sick stuff on it. :D Still, we're all adults, and we can see the appeal even if it's not to our own, personal taste. It's fantastic the freedom to create whatever people are into exists and is virtually unlimited, as long as making such content is legal in general.
    In addition, to even take part in any kinkier adult games, you have to go through a lot of trouble to figure out how it's done. Nobody winds up "a victim" by accident. You need to download an RLV-enabled viewer, enable the viewer to show adult content, enable RLV from its settings, get an RLV relay, configure the RLV relay and other bits and bots, and then figure out how to use it and seek a location where getting victimized is possible. And for the rest of the adult stuff, the big red A in your viewer address bar should be a good clue that there's potentially some sketchy stuff around.
    His attitude is just puritanistic horse manure, as far as I'm concerned, as if adults couldn't choose what they do. That's what the 18-year limit is about anyway, so we have that 18 years to grow up and get to know ourselves and put limits on our own actions. Called being an adult. Maybe he hasn't tried that yet. Maybe he's fallen a victim of becoming the voice-over of some scandal-probing feminist who thought using a male voice-over AI bot would be a better idea for real gravitas.

      As a 10+ year veteran of SL, my recommendation is that if you decide to give it a try, please understand it can be a little complicated at first. There's a lot more to it than just walking to where u wanna go, and clicking on stuff to do activities. So there is somewhat of a steep learning curve to it. Recommend getting involved with a place in-world called Helping Haven which is a community of people dedicated to helping new users navigate the ins-and-out of the world.

    Second Life is dying is an odd thing to say, SL may not have så many players as other large games, but there are often more users online there than it folk living in the area I live at in RL, and we have malls, stores, Cinema and so on and a well working economy, so I can't understand why some think a game is dying for the player base is as large as a normal city and not like a fantasy mega city.

It seems like he is trying to imply "adult content" just means sexual content. It's more like a movie or game rating. Something can be rated R because it's violent, has lots of depictions of substance abuse, blood and gore, swearing, etc.

    His video is so full of shit it's not funny. Yes, SL has a "dark" side to it, but like she said, you have to go looking for it. They way I describe it, SL is sort of like The Sims on steroids where behind each character is a person controlling it live. The Sims is PG, but also has some light adult content on it (censored nudity and "woohoo". Outside of the base game and DLC, there are tons of graphic adult user-created mods you can find and download if you're into that sort of thing. If not, you don't *have* to. You can choose to play PG or adult, whatever. The adult stuff was NEVER blatantly shoved in my face. The whole point of SL is make it your own adventure whatever that adventure is. The entire world, everything from the avatars (except for the initial one they give you of course) right down to the flowers and scenery is created by the users. I've been in SL for over 10 years now. I've met people from around the world, and many have become some of my closest friends even outside of SL.

    Lol. It's always funny watching the people who think they've invested too much into SL, therefore , it can't be dying. That youtuber was pretty much correct in every point he made about SL dying. I've been here for 15 years and I'm to the point that I can't even find people outside of the dead-chat a$$ clubs and s*x sims if it's night time in america. The adult content truly is what's keeping it alive. The adult sims have 10x the traffic of any other sim at all times, period.

    • @PianomanKY
      @PianomanKY Před dnem +1

      I would agree. Half the problem is that SL is too complicated for a lot of people, and it's still horribly optimized. AAA tier games have better graphics performance and are pretty user friendly. SL not so much. LL has failed to keep SL relevant to a newer audience. As old-school members leave, new users aren't replacing them. So yes population has been slowly dying for years. On the "moderate" side of it, there are still plenty of active communities and users, but the numbers keep decreasing. It's hard to build a start-up club, venue or store because the competition has long-established themselves by staying alive for so many years. People are loyal to those places and don't tend to venture elsewhere, which leads to little to no visitors to the startups. So to find people you almost *have* to go to those established communities/places, most of which are music/DJ venues. Honestly there's not a lot of enticement for "Come to SL where you can hang out and listen to the radio for hours on end with other people".
